Feel the need for more bounce? Saatva’s flagship bed is made with two separate coil systems that enable quick repositioning without compromising comfort or pressure relief. The first system uses micro-coils to mold to your shape, while the second has interconnected coils designed to improve durability and minimize sagging.
All those springs make for a superior amount of rebound, which is useful during intimacy. But the Saatva can calm down for when it’s time to sleep, too. It’s a true “Goldilocks” bed for me—not too soft, not too firm, and with enough customization options for anyone to make it their own. Therefore, it’s earned the top spot on our list.
What’s the Saatva Classic Made Of?
Every Saatva Classic begins with a 3-inch Euro pillow top dressed in an organic cotton cover. This initial layer is soft and cushiony, but it also feels slightly more supportive under your lumbar spine due to specialized quilting.
Next up is a strip of memory foam (what Saatva calls a “crown” rather than a full layer) underneath that same lumbar region. It’s just on top of the pocketed “comfort coils” that make up the bed’s first spring unit. The springs themselves are firmer in the lumbar zone, too.
As if that wasn’t enough lumbar support, there’s a Lumbar Zone® Active Spinal Wire between the innerspring units that frames this crucial middle-third region of the bed. It’s followed by the second array of coils, which are interconnected rather than individually wrapped.
Around the entire perimeter of the bed, a border of high-density foam solids up the edges.
Depending on your preference, you can order the Saatva Classic in either an 11.5- or 14.5-inch profile. You also have your choice of firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, or Firm.
My Take: If you’re a couple with different sleep positions, the materials this bed contains can cater to your respective sleep types … [it] works for just about everyone.
What I Liked
- Incredibly strong edges – For couples, edge support can be a crucial characteristic, as it lets both people enjoy the entire surface of the bed without saggy sides. The Saatva Classic’s thick foam border maximizes its surface area, and partners who need lots of space shouldn’t have to worry about rolling onto the floor.
- White glove delivery – Unlike a lot of online brands, Saatva is delivered uncompressed and ready to rock. The delivery team will also haul out your old mattress for free.
Potential Drawbacks
- It’s not a cooling mattress – My body temperature felt like it stayed about the same during my time on the Saatva Classic. I wasn’t overheating, but I wasn’t cooling down, either.
- It doesn’t cancel motion completely – Two sets of springs means lots of bounce, less motion isolation. I could definitely feel my testing partners’ movements as they changed position or got in and out of bed, though lighter movements were less noticeable.

What’s the Helix Midnight Mattress Made Of?

Underneath are two layers of Helix Responsive Foam, both of which have a medium-firm feel and provide support in tandem with soothing give.

What We Liked
- Balanced support and softness – Emma enjoyed how the Midnight’s foams felt soft, but not overly plush. They offered a good amount of cushion on both her side and her back, while the coils below provided springy responsiveness and counterpressure.
- Good motion isolation for a hybrid – “We were actually really surprised by how well [the Midnight] isolated motion,” Emma said. It’s a bouncy hybrid, so it won’t cancel out ripples as well as an all-foam bed, but it does keep a pretty calm surface overall.
Potential Drawbacks
- Stomach sleepers will need something firmer – After resting on her belly and feeling her hips sink into the Midnight, Emma concluded that she “might suggest a firmer mattress for exclusive stomach sleepers.”
- Limited edge support – This bed has reinforced coils on its long sides only. That’s probably enough edge support for most folks, but if you’re tall, you spread out a lot, or you appreciate a more complete sense of security, you might prefer a bed with edge support on all four sides.

If you’re a sexually active side sleeper, your challenge is finding a bed that’s simultaneously responsive enough for after-hours activities and cushiony enough for your hips and shoulders. “Cloud” is a great word to describe the cushioning abilities of this bed. It has comfortable contouring for side sleepers while also keeping the spine properly aligned.

Then, the core layer of the mattress, a high-density foam that gives the mattress stability, isolates motion, and promotes alignment.
The base cover of the mattress helps keep your mattress from unwanted slipping.
My Take: For side sleepers, the excellent spine alignment and pressure relief alone are enough to make me recommend this bed. During testing, I noticed that my hips didn’t sink—just enough of a full-body hug to cushion and contour.
What We Liked
- Endorsed support – Even though the Puffy Cloud feels pleasingly plush, its base has enough density to promote proper spinal alignment. In fact, this bed has been endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association for its support system.
- Isolates motion – The Puffy Cloud’s foam layers work well to dampen motion across the mattress. After activity in bed, any restless movements from your partner during sleep should remain isolated for uninterrupted rest.
Potential Drawbacks
- Stomach sleepers will need more lift – This mattress likely won’t be the best pick for people who sleep on their stomachs or for plus-sized sleepers. Its foam layers are a bit too soft to provide these folks with the buoyancy and support they need.
- Lacking edge support – Couples who want to make use of the full size of the mattress may want to look at the other beds on our list, as the Puffy Cloud’s foam edges don’t hold up as well as I’d like.
- Still not the bounciest – Be wary that while I found this bed to be more responsive than I thought, if you’re looking for the maximum springiness, you’d be better off with a hybrid construction or firmer foams. But of course, you’re also losing some of the essential cushioning there.

At 14 inches tall, the Leesa Sapira Chill has a total of seven layers when you include its cooling cover.
Underneath this cover are four different CertiPUR-US® certified foam layers that each add unique features to the mattress. First, a 2-inch quilted foam layer prevents lingering body impressions in the bed’s surface. Then comes a 1.5-inch layer of comfort foam with an airflow design for added breathability. Next is an inch of responsive foam to give the bed its bounce-back. And finally, a transitional foam that overlies the innerspring unit.
8 inches of individually wrapped and zoned coils bolster the lower back area while maintaining proper alignment. They sit on top of a dense and sturdy foam base.
My Take: The mix of cushioning and supporting capabilities in the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid should yield a solid profile for heavier sleepers.
What I Liked
- Pressure-relieving – Those who sleep on their side and backs should appreciate the cushioning that the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid provides. I didn’t notice any pressure buildup around problem areas when lying in either position.
- Multiple firmness options – The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid comes in Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm options, so you can choose whichever firmness works best for you.
Potential Drawbacks
- Could be cooler – While I didn’t overheat in the mattress, I think it has room for improvement. I expected the top to feel cooler to the touch, especially for its name.

I make no secret of my affection for the original DreamCloud mattress. It’s one of my favorite hybrids in general, and as a surface for sexual activity, it wins the top spot on this list. It has the right amount of springiness for intimate times, paired with impressive motion isolation for when you transition into sleep.
If you or your partner prefer to sleep on your stomach, the DreamCloud should work well to support you both. Its medium-firm feel perfectly balances comfort and lift in all the right places.
What’s the DreamCloud Mattress Made Of?
The DreamCloud is 14 inches tall and has five layers sandwiched between its top and bottom covers. The upper cover is made with a cashmere blend that feels extremely soft and luxurious.
Underneath is the first comfort layer: a 1.5-inch sheet of plush, cushioning foam. Next is a 1-inch layer of gel-infused memory foam, which focuses on conforming to your body and relieving pressure. My Take: The materials all do a pretty good job of absorbing the feeling of motion, and responding quickly to movement on the top of the bed. Couples, combo sleepers, you’re all set with this mattress.
What I Liked
- Well-rounded support – I’ve tried the DreamCloud on my side, back, and stomach with similar results: I feel pleasantly lifted and ready to drift off. Even though its name implies that it’ll be super soft, this is actually a medium-firm bed with robust, bouncy springs, and a feel that works for pretty much any sleeping position.
- A nice price – Because they’re built with both foams and springs, hybrids often threaten to break the bank. But in my opinion, the DreamCloud is priced quite affordably for all that it offers.
Potential Drawbacks
- Weaker edges – The DreamCloud’s chief fault is in its edge support, which is weaker than I’d expect from a hybrid bed of its caliber.
- Not a lot of sink – Lightweight side sleepers and people who prize a very soft bed, this isn’t the mattress for you. The DreamCloud makes you feel boosted atop of its surface, rather than embedded in plush layers.

Under the cover is a layer of memory foam that’s been infused with copper. This beneficial metal helps with cooling as well as protection from germs and bacteria. After the memory foam, a layer of transition foam blends comforting give with a bit more support.

What We Liked
- Plush surface – Hybrid mattresses sometimes give up a soft surface in exchange for overall springiness. But the Bear Elite Hybrid is actually quite plush. “One of the things that I liked the most … was that it contoured to my hips and shoulders really, really well,” said Stuart.
