Who Is the Nolah Adjustable Base Best for?

Pros: Who Might Like the Nolah Adjustable Base:

  • Sleepers who snore – This adjustable base has an anti-snore setting that lifts your midsection to help with your breathing and reduce snoring.
  • Those with back pain – If you experience back pain, the Nolah Adjustable Base has a “Zero G” setting that gently lifts your head and boosts your legs to take pressure off your back.
  • Warranty seekers – Many adjustable foundations don’t come with a warranty. However, Nolah provides a 10-year limited warranty for this base.

Cons: Who Might Not Like the Nolah Adjustable Base :

  • People who prefer preset buttons – Although the remote is fairly easy to use, there aren’t any preset buttons that offer specific angles or positions.
  • Fans of soothing massage – Nolah touts the massage setting as a big value add, but I found it rather jarring. The whole bed shook when I used it.
  • Those who live alone – This bed was easy to put together, but it is very heavy. You will need at least one other person to help you move and assemble it.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

Sleep Advisor takes a hands-on approach to testing. Members of our team and I unboxed and assembled this adjustable base. I then took notes on the frame and platform before putting a compatible mattress on it to test out the ease of use and various settings in order to bring you a comprehensive overview of the product.

What Is the Nolah Adjustable Base Made of?

Materials

The Nolah Adjustable Base consists of an upholstered platform that is supported by a solid metal frame with a reinforced steel undercarriage. It also has built-in nightlights underneath the platform.

Height

All sizes of the Nolah Adjustable Base feature adjustable legs with height options of 6, 9, and 12 inches. If you use the 12-inch option, the base’s platform will be 15 inches from the ground.

Sleeping on the Nolah Adjustable Base

The Nolah Adjustable Base felt sturdy once I assembled it. I liked that the adjustable legs made it a little more customizable, as I could position the base’s platform at different heights from the ground.

The remote was easy to use, and I appreciated that I didn’t notice the types of electronic beeps that are often associated with adjustable bases. I thought the wall-glide technology and the capability to pair this base with a home assistant such as Alexa or Google Home were standout features.

However, I was not a big fan of the massage setting, as it felt jarring and just seemed to vibrate the foundation and me.

Nolah Adjustable Base Sizing Options & Pricing

SizeDimensions (inches)Price (w/o discount)
Twin XL37.5” x 79.5” $1,199
Full53.5” x 73.5”$1,349
Queen59.5” x 79.5” $1,399
Split King37.5” x 79.5” (x 2)$1,998
Split Cali King35.5” x 83.5” (x 2)$2,199

My Performance Ratings for the Nolah Adjustable Bed

Support

3/5

With its metal frame and reinforced undercarriage, the Nolah Adjustable Base feels very sturdy. It can support up to 750 pounds, but that includes the mattress’s weight. When comparing Nolah’s weight capacity to other comparable bases, it isn’t quite up to par.

Durability

3/5

The metal Nolah Adjustable Base frame is reinforced with a heavy-duty undercarriage that feels solid. Given that it is made to hold 750 pounds, including the mattress, I don’t think it would be durable enough for a heavyweight couple. Also, I am a little concerned about the longevity of the fabric since the base that I received already had rips in the fabric and staples that were falling out.

Explore: Best Heavy Duty Bed Frames

Assembly

4/5

Assembling the Nolah Adjustable Base was a snap. It requires no tools, and I was able to put it together in less than 15 minutes. My only concern about the assembly is that the base is very heavy, and it takes at least one more person to help with the moving and unboxing, as well as holding it in place while the other person assembles it.

Noise

3/5

Typically, I find that adjustable bases have noticeable electronic noises, but this wasn’t the case with the Nolah. It did get a little noisy when in massage mode, but that is my only complaint when it comes to sounds.

Ease of Use

4/5

The wireless remote is extremely easy to use. The Nolah Adjustable Base also allows you to pair it with your Google Home or Alexa, but I don’t have either of those in the studio, so I couldn’t test that feature. I suspect that if you choose to use voice commands via your home assistant, it might require some technological savvy to pair it with your particular device.

Shipping

4/5

The Nolah Adjustable Base ships for free via FedEx.

Sleep Trial & Warranty

4/5

There is not a sleep trial with this base, but there is a 10-year limited warranty. The warranty is a big plus for me because most adjustable foundations come with neither a sleep trial nor a warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need a box spring with an adjustable base?

No, you do not need a box spring with an adjustable base, and you shouldn’t use one. Box springs are incompatible with adjustable bases — trying to use one might damage the box spring, the adjustable base, or both. The foundation of the adjustable base serves as the base for your mattress, so you do not need to buy a box spring if you are planning on using an adjustable base.

Can you use a headboard and footboard with an adjustable base?

Standard headboards and footboards can be used with most adjustable bases. Furthermore, many adjustable bases are designed to fit inside of an existing bed frame.

Can I put any mattress on an adjustable base?

Although many mattresses will work on adjustable bases, not all of them will. Generally, all-foam beds are great choices for adjustable bases, and most, if not all, of these beds should work. Many hybrid mattresses will also be compatible with an adjustable base, but innerspring mattresses typically are not.

My Final Thoughts on the Nolah Adjustable Base

The Nolah Adjustable Base is a sturdy, basic adjustable base that brings a good mix of high-tech features, such as smart assistant pairing, without overriding its ease of use. Plus, the assembly process was a breeze. These factors and more helped it earn an overall score of 3.6 out of 5.

With that being said, I thought that this Nolah base fell short with its massage setting, as it was not very soothing. I also found the rips in the upholstery and dislodged staples suggestive of possible quality control or durability issues.

If you dream of having a bed that allows you to read or watch TV at a comfortable angle or one that could cut down your partner’s snoring, you may want to put your mattress on an adjustable base. Luxury mattress manufacturer, Saatva, offers two such bases, and I got to test out their base model, the Saatva Adjustable Base.

For a company that has become synonymous with opulent beds, I was a little surprised at the minimalistic design of their adjustable base. Did this mean it was bare bones or just a straightforward, less-is-more design?

Dive into this review where I answer that question and more. To bring you a comprehensive overview, I will go over my first-hand experience with the Saatva Adjustable Base and break down how it performed, as well as its design and other features, which can help you decide whether to add it to your cart or keep shopping.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

To provide you with an in-depth understanding of this product, I’ve researched it and put it through a series of hands-on tests. In general, our team evaluates adjustable bases for a host of qualities, including performance, durability, and ease of use, among others.

For more on our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.

Who Is the Saatva Adjustable Base Best for?

Pros: Who Might Like the Saatva Adjustable Base:

  • People seeking a straightforward design – If you are someone who just wants a quality-built adjustable base that won’t bog you down with learning how to use it, this could be an excellent choice for you.
  • Fans of minimalism – The Saatva Adjustable Base is much slimmer than other options that I’ve tested out. It is barely seen under the mattress and is made to fit within platform bases and other bed frames.
  • Budget shoppers – Adjustable bases can get pricey. However, I think this Saatva product offers great value when you factor in the price, free white glove delivery, and 10-year warranty.

Cons: Who Might Not Like the Saatva Adjustable Base:

  • Those looking for a variety of settings – This adjustable base is pretty basic. The five buttons on the wireless remote allow you to lay flat and move your head and feet. If you want massage, zero-gravity, or anti-snore settings, you’ll need to upgrade to the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus.
  • Uncertain consumers – Although there is a 10-year warranty on the Saatva Adjustable Base, there is no trial period. Further, it cannot be returned or exchanged. If you aren’t certain that this is the adjustable base for you, I probably wouldn’t take the gamble.
  • People who want a quiet bed – Saatva states that their adjustable base’s motor is “whisper quiet”, and while it didn’t make much noise, there was a good deal of electronic shifting sounds when adjusting the bed.

What is the Saatva Adjustable Bed Made of?

Materials

The Saatva Adjustable Base is made of powder-coated steel and Russian birchwood. Its slim design can fit within other bed frames. A wireless remote that controls the “whisper quiet” motor is used to adjust the bed, and there is also a flashlight built into the remote to help you find items or guide you to the restroom.

Height

With legs that can be adjusted in half-inch increments, this Saatva base has a minimum height of 13 inches, and it maxes out at 18 inches.

Sleeping on the Saatva Adjustable Base

The Saatva Adjustable Base is slimmer than many adjustable bases on the market, as it is designed to fit inside frames. However, it can still hold up to 850 pounds. When sleeping on this adjustable base, you can use the wireless remote to lay flat or raise and lower your head and feet. The motor is fairly quiet, and it shouldn’t wake a partner or pet that you’re sharing your bed with, but you may notice some shifting noise when you make adjustments.

The adjustable legs are a nice touch as you can customize the base to fit your bed frame or to assist if you have any mobility issues. Saatva Adjustable Base Sizing Options & Pricing

Sleep Advisor’s Performance Ratings for the Saatva Adjustable Base

Support 4/5

The Saatva Adjustable Base is made with powder-coated steel and Russian birchwood that can hold up to 850 pounds, which includes the weight of your mattress and all occupants. Although the support seems adequate, I do want to mention that this is a “bare bones” product.

Durability 3/5

Although the Saatva uses powder-coated steel and Russian birchwood, which are sturdy materials, I felt that the overall construction was a little lackluster. This makes me question its durability (I found this surprising because Saatva usually has such high standards for its products).

Assembly 4/5

The Saatva Adjustable Base offers free white glove delivery. This means that the base is delivered and set up at no charge. However, if you need to move and reassemble it, it will take at least two people to carry it and set it up, though it does come together pretty easily. The Sleep Advisor team had it out of the box and fully assembled in less than 30 minutes.

Noise 2/5

This bed did make some electronic shifting noises between adjustments. It wasn’t obnoxiously loud, but I do think most people will notice it — I did. The motor is said to be “whisper quiet,” and while I didn’t notice any noise from the motor, it may have just been covered up by the noise of the adjustments. However, it doesn’t creak or groan when you’re getting in and out of bed, which is a plus for me.

Ease of Use 5/5

Julia Forbes Testing The Saatva Adjustable Base
Testing the Saatva Adjustable Base with a Saatva mattress in our testing facility.

The Saatva Adjustable Base shines bright when it comes to ease of use. The wireless remote has five buttons that are used to move the head and feet or activate the flashlight. Having a flashlight on the remote is helpful, but if you’re looking for under-bed lighting as well, I recommend the Plus model. For those who may not consider themselves tech-savvy or just want an easy-to-use adjustable base, this may be a great fit.

Shipping 5/5

You will receive free shipping and assembly as part of Saatva’s white glove delivery program.

Sleep Trial & Warranty 3/5

The Saatva Adjustable Base has a 10-year warranty, but there is no sleep trial. Additionally, Saatva considers adjustable bases “lifestyle products,” which means that they are not eligible for returns or exchanges.

Saatva Adjustable Base Frequently Asked Questions

Are adjustable bases worth it?

The answer to this is largely dependent on your personal needs and preferences. If you or your partner snores, an adjustable base might help remedy that. Raising or lowering your head and feet can also help with certain aches and pains, as well as some mobility issues. Furthermore, people who like to read or watch TV in bed may find the settings of an adjustable bed worthwhile.

However, they can be expensive, and many bases can’t be returned. Therefore, make sure that you want one and know which one will work best for you before purchasing anything.

Can I return my Saatva Adjustable Base?

Unfortunately, you cannot return the Saatva Adjustable Base for a refund or an exchange. The manufacturer considers them a “lifestyle product” and this classification makes them ineligible for returns.

Do I have to use a Saatva mattress with the adjustable base?

No, you can use the Saatva Adjustable Base with mattresses not manufactured by the company. However, you will want to ensure that your mattress is compatible with an adjustable base. Many memory foam and latex beds partner well with adjustable bases, but always double-check. Some hybrids may work, but innerspring models, waterbeds, and air mattresses should be avoided.

Overall, I gave this adjustable base a 3.7 out of 5.

A mattress foundation is a fairly utilitarian piece of furniture. However, when deciding on a base for your mattress, keep in mind that it isn’t as straightforward as slapping a mattress down on a frame and calling it a day. This is especially true if you are thinking about purchasing an adjustable foundation such as the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base.

Adjustable bases can provide many benefits, but given that they typically come with a heftier price tag than their stationary counterparts, there are certain aspects that you will want to consider before adding one to your cart.

I tested out the Purple Ascent and am excited to tell you about my findings. In this review, I’ll provide you with the ins and outs of this foundation’s performance. By presenting what I loved about this mattress and the areas that I thought could be improved, you should be better equipped in your purchasing decision.

Who Is the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base Best for?

Pros: Who Might Like the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base:

  • Those who want to be able to use their remote in the dark – The Purple Ascent’s remote is backlit, and this makes it easier to use when your bedroom lights are off.
  • Shoppers looking for a more stylish adjustable base – With its wooden legs and other attractive features, this adjustable base looks stylish. Therefore, if you want something that’s also aesthetically pleasing, I think this could be a good match.
  • People who snore or sleep with a snorer – Snoring can disturb your sleep and the sleep of your partner. Fortunately, the Ascent has a preset anti-snore button that could help alleviate this issue.

Cons: Who Might Not Like the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base:

  • People who want an adjustable base with massage settings – If a nightly massage is driving your adjustable bed shopping, you will want to look elsewhere because the Purple adjustable base does not offer this feature.
  • Those who want more presets – The Ascent doesn’t have as many preset functions as other similar adjustable bases. If you would like to “set it and forget it,”  this may not be the best bet for you.
  • Shoppers who want to try out their adjustable base first – You will want to be certain that this is the adjustable base for you because Purple offers no trial period for this product. Given the substantial price tag, this could be problematic if you’re not completely sure about your choice.

What is the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base made of?

Materials

The aesthetically pleasing Purple Ascent Adjustable Base has a steel frame and natural-finish wooden legs. The base’s platform is covered in a sleek, slate-grey fabric.

Height

This adjustable base has 9-inch wooden legs and is just over 12 inches tall in total. Although the wooden legs are a stylish addition, they cannot be adjusted like those on many other adjustable beds.

Sleeping on the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base

If you are interested in an adjustable base, it is probably a safe assumption that you are also interested in the special features that they offer. Therefore, when testing one of these foundations, I like to pay special attention to not only the features but how well they perform when sleeping on it.

I lean toward using an all-foam mattress for adjustable bases, but some hybrids can also be a good choice. However, according to Purple, this particular adjustable base should only be used with the company’s mattresses.  Please take note of this before purchasing this foundation.

There are several preset buttons that make it easier to get into different positions, but I found that there wasn’t much difference between the anti-snore setting and the sitting position. Both settings keep your head at a pretty inclined angle. However, you can easily customize the sitting setting using the manual buttons.

Additionally, I found comfort and pressure relief when using the zero-gravity setting.

Sleep Advisor’s Performance Ratings for the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base

Support

4/5

Using a combination of steel and wood, the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base can support up to 750 pounds. This weight capacity includes the weight of the mattress as well as the weight of any people or pets that sleep on it.

Durability

4/5

This adjustable base seems substantial, and I felt that is heftier and better in quality than a lot of the other adjustable bases I have tested out. I felt that the steel frame was sturdy and that the wooden legs and upholstered platform combined to provide an adjustable base that will be in good working condition for some time.

Assembly

4/5

The assembly of the Purple Ascent was pretty standard. We didn’t find it burdensome, and it was easy to complete the setup in less than 15 minutes. However, please note that this foundation weighs 120 pounds. This means that you will probably want to grab a friend to help you move it.

Noise

2/5

Considering that adjustable bases typically have motors, it is a safe assumption that there will be some noise associated with them. I heard a soft electronic “buzzing” noise when the Purple Ascent shifted into various settings. There were no noticeable sounds when moving around or getting in and out of bed, though.

Ease of Use

2/5

One of my favorite aspects about the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is the straightforward remote. This remote is neatly labeled and doesn’t have a confusing or cumbersome amount of buttons. Some of the buttons that I think you would use a lot include zero gravity, anti-snore, and flat lay. Additionally, the remote is backlit, which makes it easier to read the buttons in the dark.

Shipping

4/5

Purple will ship the Ascent for free throughout the contiguous U.S.

Sleep Trial & Warranty

2/5

The fact that this base doesn’t come with a sleep trial, return, or exchange option was one of my biggest complaints about the fairly expensive Ascent. However, you will get a 10-year limited warranty when you buy this adjustable base.

Purple Ascent Adjustable Base Frequently Asked Questions

Can I attach a headboard to the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base?

Yes, you can attach a headboard to the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base. To do so, you will need to purchase headboard brackets. Brackets are not included with your adjustable base purchase, but you can buy them separately by contacting Purple’s customer support. You may also be able to purchase useable brackets at a hardware store.

Does the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base vibrate?

No, the Purple Ascent does not have a vibrate feature. If you want an adjustable base with vibrating or massage features, you may want to look for another product.

Is the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base worth it?

The sturdy Purple Ascent Adjustable Base uses steel and wood, and it seems to be solidly constructed with an easy-to-use remote control. Adjustable bases can provide health benefits, but they are considerably more expensive than stationary mattress foundations. Therefore, you will need to weigh your personal needs against how much you want to spend before making your decision.

My Final Thoughts on the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base

The Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is a stylish and durable adjustable base that comes with an easy-to-use, backlit remote. The presets on the remote include anti-snore, zero gravity, and sitting. There are USB ports on both sides of the bed, which makes it more convenient for phone charging.

While I like this adjustable base more than others I have tested, for the hefty price tag, I’d like to see this bed include more features. Also, given that there is no sleep trial or refunds, there isn’t much room to change your mind, even if you don’t like your expensive adjustable bed. Overall, the Ascent earned a 3.6 out of 5 score.

  • Those who want a variety of sizes – This adjustable base only comes in three sizes. If you want more size options, you may want to consider another base.

What is the Brooklyn Bedding Ascencion Luxe Adjustable Base Made of?

Materials

Brooklyn Bedding uses alloy steel to make a sturdy base. It also includes two motors as well as USB ports and a power-down battery pack.

Height

This adjustable base has a fairly standard height of approximately 12 inches. You will have around 10 inches of clearance to store items under your bed.

Sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Ascencion Luxe Adjustable Base

The Ascension Luxe has a luxurious and sturdy feel to it that gave me a sense of security. I found that the remote control was easy to use and liked how it promoted healthy sleep and spinal support. Additionally, I appreciated how the pre-sets allow you to set the head and foot angles to your liking so that you could quickly get into your favorite position.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the various settings:

  • TV – When you click this button, it lifts the mattress in the air and puts the top portion in a reclined position where your feet are up. I wasn’t crazy about this setting because I felt uncomfortable and squished.
  • Zero Gravity – I found that my feet seemed to be more elevated with the Ascension Luxe than others that I’ve tested. The feet seem to go up more than other adjustable bases that we tested.
  • Lounge – I couldn’t tell much, if any, difference between this setting and the TV one.
  • Anti-snore – My head was lifted but not nearly as much as the other adjustable bases that I’ve tried. However, it may be fine for some snorers.
  • Feet and Head– This setting was comfortable on my spine when it was all the way up. However, when the head area was all the way up, it was nearly at a 90-degree angle and I found this to be unpleasant.

Sleep Advisor’s Performance Ratings for the Brooklyn Bedding Ascencion Luxe Adjustable Base

Support

4/5

I found that this is a fairly sturdy and supportive base. It can hold up to 850 pounds. However, please note that this includes the weight of the mattress and all people or pets sleeping on the bed.

Durability

3/5

When comparing adjustable bases to stationary ones, I don’t think that they will hold up as well due in large part to the various tech components. Granted, it does have a two-year limited parts warranty, but compared to other mattress frames, this isn’t particularly substantial.

Assembly

3/5

The Sleep Advisor team was able to put this frame together fairly easily as most of the parts and components are ready to go right out of the box. However, the parts are heavy so I highly recommend putting this together with at least one other person.

Noise

2/5

With adjustable bases, there’s always a chance they can be noisy due to the motors. The Ascension Luxe isn’t excessively loud, but you’ll definitely notice a mechanical noise as you adjust the bed. However, when it comes to getting in and out of bed, I didn’t notice any creaking or squeaking.

Ease of Use

5/5

I found that the frame and remote of the Ascension Luxe were  very easy to use. The remote has a comfortable feel and I appreciated the clearly labeled buttons. Additionally, it has a flashlight, though I found it curious that it was on the bottom of the remote and not on the top.

I also liked that there were USB charging ports built into the frame as well as an energy-efficient battery.

Shipping

4/5

Brooklyn Bedding offers free shipping to the 48 contiguous United States. An additional fee applies to shipments going to Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada.

Sleep Trial & Warranty

3/5

This adjustable frame comes with no sleep trial, and it only has a 2-year limited parts replacement coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an adjustable bed frame worth the money?

Adjustable beds can offer better circulation by keeping the legs and/or head elevated. Additionally, if you or your partner snore, an adjustable base can help alleviate this issue by keeping the head propped up and opening up the airway.

Adjustable bed frames also make it convenient to read or watch TV in bed, and many of them offer massage features as well. If these are appealing features to you, an adjustable base can be worth it.

What is an adjustable bed frame?

Adjustable bed frames are typically steel frames in which the legs and/or head can be lifted. There are typically one to two motors that are operated by remote control. Many adjustable beds also have special additions like massage or anti-snore features.

Can you put a regular mattress on the Brooklyn Bedding Ascencion Luxe Adjustable Base?

These bases are designed to only be used with Brooklyn Bedding mattresses. Therefore, for this base to work to its full capacity, it is highly recommended you only use a Brooklyn Bedding mattress.

My Final Thoughts on the Brooklyn Bedding Ascencion Luxe Adjustable Bed Frame

The Brooklyn Bedding Ascencion Luxe Adjustable Bed Frame should provide a sturdy, durable base. It has a hefty weight limit, which should make it suitable for heavyweight people.

In addition to massage and zero-gravity features, I think it provides a good amount of spinal support. Although I don’t think that adjustable base beds are as durable or long-lasting as those that are stationary, the affordability and luxury features on this one should make it a solid choice for those in the market for an adjustable bed.

This adjustable bed frame earned a 3.4 out of 5 for its overall score.

Who Is the Helix Adjustable Base Best for?

The Helix Adjustable Base is excellent for those looking for an adjustable base with a simple design and easy-to-use remote control. It’s not the flashiest adjustable base out there, but I think that its straightforward design will be a selling point for some.

Pros: Who Might Like the Helix Adjustable Base:

  • Value shoppers – This Helix base is made with sturdy carbon steel and comes in at an appealing price point. This makes it a great choice for those who want a dependable adjustable base that won’t break the bank.
  • Those looking for a simple design – This is a straightforward base with an easily manageable remote.
  • Folks who want a base with an adjustable height – The six legs of the Helix can be set at four different heights. This allows users to select the bed height that works best for them.

Cons: Who Might Not Like the Helix Adjustable Base:

  • People who want a lot of features – If you’re looking for an adjustable base that is technologically advanced or one that has advanced settings, the Helix is probably not for you.
  • Those who want a wall-hugging adjustable bed – Some adjustable frames shift so that the bed stays close to the wall when in a raised position. This one does not, though, and that could be an issue if you don’t like feeling as though you’re sleeping in the middle of your room.
  • Consumers looking for substantial massage settings – The massage settings on the Helix are lacking. It feels more like vibrating than massage-like.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

To bring you a detailed look at products, the Sleep Advisor crew makes it our mission to thoroughly test, evaluate and document the mattresses and other sleep accessories. By combining first-hand experience with research-based knowledge, we strive to bring our readers a detailed account of products that will help them achieve quality sleep.

What is the Helix Adjustable Base Made of?

Materials

The Helix adjustable base uses heavy-duty carbon steel for the frame and adjustable legs. I was happy to see that although this is a budget-friendly option, durable materials were used in its design. The platform is made from a combination of polyester and PVC mesh that should hold up the weight of the mattress and sleepers well.

Height

One of my favorite features of the Helix is that the six legs can be adjusted to four different heights ranging from 3 to 12 inches. This feature allows you to personalize the base so that your bed height can best meet your needs.

Sleeping on the Helix Adjustable Base

I tested the Helix adjustable base with one of the Helix Elite mattresses and quickly found that line of mattresses was probably not the best choice due to their multiple layers, innerspring unit, and ample height. When I adjusted the bed I could hear the coils popping, and this was fairly off-putting. Therefore, I would recommend one of Helix’s all-foam mattresses if you’re going to use the adjustable base.

Other than that I found that the base was a solid, budget-friendly choice. This base adjusted my head and feet easily with the remote’s manual settings, as well as the three presets. I think that the head area could rise more to make it easier to read or watch TV, but I think that it could still help prevent snoring.

Additionally, the zero-gravity setting was a nice touch that provided pressure relief around my lower back. With that being said, I don’t think that I would use the massage settings much because it just felt like vibrations at three different speeds.

Sleep Advisor’s Performance Ratings for the Helix Adjustable Base

Support

4/5

The Helix Adjustable Base is made from carbon steel and can support up to 750 pounds. Please remember that this includes the weight of your mattress and the total weight of all sleepers. This is a solid support system, but given how heavy this base is, I was surprised that it couldn’t support closer to a half-ton.

Durability

3/5

I find that adjustable bed frames aren’t as durable as stationary frames. This is mainly because the electronic components can wear down over time. However, the Helix’s durability is impressive given the carbon steel used in construction, but given the overall heft of this frame, I expected a little more stability.

Assembly

4/5

The assembly of this Helix base is fairly easy to do. It was quick to put together, didn’t require many tools, and can most likely be done by one person. However, this base is incredibly heavy, and it is delivered in big boxes. I highly recommend that you recruit a friend or two to help you move it.

If you have to take the frame up a lot of stairs, you may even want to consider hiring professional movers.

Noise

2/5

My biggest complaint about the Helix adjustable base was how noisy it is when you make adjustments. The noise level is not overwhelming, but it is bothersome. There isn’t a noise issue when simply getting in and out of bed, but the amount of noise made when adjusting is much more than I would have liked.

Ease of Use

5/5

The Helix’s wireless remote doesn’t have as many features as some of the others on the market, but this was a selling point for me. I enjoyed the easy-to-navigate interface on the remote and feel that this may be beneficial for senior users or those who aren’t particularly tech-savvy.

Shipping

5/5

Helix offers free shipping to all 50 states in America via FedEx, earning it a 5 out of 5 score here.

Sleep Trial & Warranty

2/5

I found the trial and warranty policies for this product to be a bit confusing. There is a two-year warranty on materials’ defects, five-year coverage on defective parts, and 20-year limited coverage on defective components.

It seems comprehensive and is certainly more robust than some of the competitors, but that doesn’t mean it is clear. Therefore, I fear that you could have some issues having claims honored. Additionally, there is no sleep trial with Helix adjustable base.

Adjustable Bed Frame Frequently Asked Questions

What is an adjustable bed frame?

An adjustable bed frame has a motor that is typically operated by a remote control that allows the head and feet to be adjusted to various angles. Many of them also have a variety of other settings like zero gravity, anti-snore, and massage.

Is an adjustable bed frame worth it?

If you are someone who experiences circulation or other medical issues, an adjustable bed frame could help alleviate some of these problems. Also, if you’re keeping your partner up because of your snoring, an adjustable base may prevent your snoring by keeping the head slightly lifted to open up the airways.

Can you put a regular mattress on an adjustable bed frame?

Most all-foam, including memory foam and latex, beds are compatible with adjustable bed frames. There are also some hybrids that will work with adjustable bases. For the most part, innerspring mattresses aren’t designed to be used with an adjustable frame.

My Final Thoughts on the Helix Adjustable Base

The Helix adjustable base is a straightforward and solidly-built adjustable bed frame. Although I question the longevity of almost any adjustable bed due to the wear and tear on moving parts, I think that the cost-effectiveness and durability of this Helix product make it worthy of consideration, and it earned a 3.6 out of 5 for its overall score.

There are certainly adjustable bases that are more technologically advanced, but for those looking for a sturdy adjustable base with an easy-to-operate remote, I would recommend looking into the Helix adjustable base.

5/5

Durability

We feel the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus should provide long-lasting use. It’s designed to be highly durable, and its 25-year warranty also speaks to the brand’s commitment to the quality of their product.

Assembly

5/5

There is free white glove delivery and setup for this adjustable base. You will be contacted before your chosen delivery date and given a four-hour window as to when Saatva’s delivery partners will arrive. Your base will be hand-delivered and assembled in the room of your choice.

Noise

4/5

Although the motors used in the Saatva Adjustable Base aren’t as quiet as a whisper, they aren’t incredibly loud either.

Ease of Use

4/5

To control your adjustable bed, you will use the included remote control, which has larger buttons that are easy to read and push. The remote is intuitively programmed with presets, and it has a handy flashlight built in. However, it does take a little longer than we would like to transition from one position to another.

Shipping

4/5

Shipping is free within the continental United States, and Saatva can help you arrange shipping for an additional fee if you live in Alaska or Hawaii.

Sleep Trial & Warranty

2/5

There is no sleep trial and no option to return it, but it does come with a 25-year limited warranty.

Our Final Thoughts on the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus offers a variety of adjustments and features that many who are interested in an adjustable base will enjoy. This base does a great job of staying close to the wall when the head is being raised. This helps keep your bed in approximately the same place as it is adjusted.

Furthermore, it offers massage, zero-gravity, TV watching, and anti-snore presets that can greatly enhance your overall bedroom experience. The under-bed lighting is functional and adds an agreeable aesthetic.

This moderately priced base has a long warranty and should serve you for a good while. However, we would like to see Saatva provide an option for a sleep trial or returns. Our overall score for this product is 4 out of 5.
