Why the Saatva Classic Earned Best Overall Hotel Mattress
Known as the luxury innerspring mattress beloved by the internet, the Saatva Classic can absolutely mimic a memorable hotel experience. Our tester Julia praised its “Goldilocks-esque blend” of softness and support, which it owes to its Euro pillow top and two (yes, two) coil units.
We might even argue that this bed is an improvement over most hotel models, because hotels seldom let you choose the height and firmness of your mattress. When you order the Saatva Classic, you can pick between an 11.5- or 14.5-inch version and select one of the following comfort levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, or Firm. The ability to customize your experience, plus it’s softness and support, make the Saatva Class the best hotel mattress option.
What’s the Saatva Classic Made Of?
The Saatva Classic starts with an organic cotton cover atop its 3-inch Euro pillow top. The pillow top is the plushest part of the bed, though it still firms up a bit around the lumbar region of the back for extra support. Its feel also changes depending on the firmness level you choose.
Underneath the pillow top is a rectangular layer of memory foam that only occupies the center third of the mattress, again for targeted lumbar support. It leads into the bed’s first coil unit, a layer of micro coils (i.e. shorter coils than traditional innersprings) that easily compress in response to pressure.
Next, the larger coil unit consists of taller, interconnected coils that form the sturdiest portion of the bed. A border of high-density foam surrounds both spring systems for edge support.
This mattress also features what Saatva calls a Lumbar Zone® Active Spinal Wire. It’s a wire set amongst the coils that frames the same middle portion of the mattress as the earlier memory foam layer, boosting the lumbar support even further.
What We Liked
- Lots of customization – Saatva gives you the power to create your ideal mattress with its multiple firmness and thickness offerings. If you’re not sure which model to pick, we found the Luxury Firm version to be pleasingly versatile. “You can sleep in just about any position on this mattress and still feel comfortable,” said Stuart.
- It pampers your lower back – In our notes on this mattress’s construction, you may have noticed an emphasis on the lumbar region. Saatva pays special attention to this area, as it’s often where sleepers experience discomfort or soreness. In Stuart’s opinion, with this bed, “You’ll always have lots of support for your lower back.” Julia concurred, adding that her midsection “feels perfectly lifted” by the Classic.
- White glove service – Saatva will not only deliver this mattress to your home, but they’ll also set it up in the room of your choice. The bed will arrive at its full size and be ready for immediate use. (Unlike the majority of their competitors, Saatva never squeezes their mattresses into a box, preferring to avoid the compression process.)
Potential Drawbacks
- Some motion transfer – “You can definitely feel big movements [on this bed],” said Julia, though she added that smaller shifts weren’t as noticeable. Because the Saatva Classic has a fair amount of responsiveness, it won’t isolate motion as well as an all-foam mattress.
- It won’t “hug” you – As an innerspring mattress, the Saatva Classic lacks the deep, encompassing feel of a bed that’s mostly made of foam. “The Euro pillow top is soft, but I do feel a little more like I’m sleeping on top of the mattress, rather than sinking into it,” said Stuart. Of course, some people prefer a springier bed to one that lets you sink, so whether this is a disadvantage depends on your preferences.
Customer Reviews of the Saatva Classic
The Saatva Classic rates 4.8 stars out of 5 on Saatva’s website. One negative aspect customers found with the Saatva Classic mattress is that it may feel too firm for some users, while a notable advantage is its high-quality materials, providing durability and support.

Why the Helix Midnight Luxe Earned Best Luxury Hotel Mattress
This hybrid bed has a soft, sumptuous feel as soon as you lie on its quilted pillow top. However, it’s what’s inside that truly likens the Midnight Luxe to a luxury hotel mattress: three foam layers for deep pressure relief, and a coil unit with zones designed to cushion your shoulders while lifting your hips.
All of these layers result in a 13.5-inch mattress that mixes the cradling powers of foam with targeted support. Our tester, Emma, had this to say: “I particularly love how [the Midnight Luxe] feels when I’m sleeping on my side. The pillow top adds just a bit more cushioning than the standard Midnight does, and the zoned support also seems to help with my overall alignment.”
What’s the Helix Midnight Luxe Made Of?
The Midnight Luxe is a thicker, more luxurious version of the Helix Midnight. It has six layers, beginning with a 1-inch pillow top of quilted foam.
The cover on the pillow top is made with TENCEL™ fibers, which are derived from eucalyptus wood and have highly breathable properties. If you want the surface of the bed to be even cooler, you can pay extra to swap in a GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover. With their high thermal conductivity, the GlacioTex™ fibers allegedly transfer excess heat away from your body so you don’t feel too warm.
The first comfort layer of the Midnight Luxe is made of Helix Responsive Foam, which contours to your body while retaining a bit of springiness. Next is a copper gel memory foam that molds to your shape and eases the strain on sensitive regions, such as the shoulders and hips. It stays cooler than more traditional memory foams thanks to its copper gel infusions. The third and final comfort layer consists of Memory Plus foam, a Helix-specific blend engineered to be dense, stable, and supportive.
The coil unit in the Midnight Luxe has multiple rows of reinforced springs stretching across the middle of the bed. These slightly sturdier coils give more pushback to your hips and lower back, encouraging a comfortable spinal alignment. The coils are also reinforced along the perimeter of the bed to prevent the edges from buckling.
At the very bottom of the bed is a 1-inch layer of DuraDense foam that provides the coils with a lower buffer.
What We Liked
- A plush surface – “I love the cool pillow top cover,” said Emma, who found this bed to be more pleasingly soft than the standard Midnight. “It adds quite a bit of extra cushioning.”
- It balances softness with support – Our testers were united in their admiration for the Midnight Luxe’s feel. Sean said that this mattress gave him “the perfect amount of support” on both his back and his side. Liz, meanwhile, appreciated that “it was completely supportive while also cradling me.”
- Considerate cooling – “[This mattress] won’t heat up in the way that an all-foam bed would,” said Emma. Its coils allow air to circulate in the lower portion of the bed, and in the upper half, its breathable cover and gel-infused foam work to preserve a cozy temperature.
Potential Drawbacks
- Too pillowy for stomach sleepers – Per Emma, this mattress “doesn’t work quite as well for sleeping on my stomach.” Stomach sleepers may want a bed that’s not as plush at the top, so they don’t feel excessive sinkage around their hips.
- You might need help to move it – Like many other mattresses with more than a few layers, the Midnight Luxe can be tough to relocate once it’s expanded. “It’s a bit heavy and there aren’t handles on it, so moving it was a little difficult,” said Liz.
Customer Reviews of the Helix Midnight Luxe
On Helix’s website, the mattress scores 4.5 out of 5 stars. Customers appreciate the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress for its customized support but have reported that it may not be the best option for those who prefer an exceptionally soft sleep surface.

Why the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate Earned Best Firm Hotel Mattress
The Lux Estate is an absolutely opulent hybrid mattress from Stearns & Foster, with a unique support system that may remind you of your favorite firm hotel beds. We placed the medium pillow top model at a 6.5-7 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which is already skewing pretty firm. But if you want to go even firmer, you have options: you can lose the pillow top entirely, or swap it for a different pillow top with less give.
Inside this mattress, the upper foams handle pressure relief beautifully, and the IntelliCoil® spring system is, as my fellow reviewer Sydney put it, “built to impress.” It features a “nested” spring design: each spring has a larger, thinner outer coil and a stronger, more supportive inner coil.
What’s the Lux Estate Made Of?
You can order the Lux Estate with or without a pillow top, and if you choose to include it, you can pick a Soft, Medium, or Firm version. Without the pillow top, the bed has a 14-inch height and a medium-firm feel. With it, the bed becomes 16 inches tall.
The Tencel™ cover at the top of the bed allows for airflow and stretch while wicking away excess moisture. Underneath, a layer of TEMPUR-Indulge™ Memory Foam, created by the legendary Tempur-Pedic brand, hugs your curves while also providing initial support.
Next is the IntelliCoil® springs unit. Each spring in this proprietary support system has an inner and outer coil. The inner coil is responsible for shouldering weight and staying strong, while the outer one is extremely responsive with a gentler feel. The unit also has a reinforced border for edge support.
On the outside of the bed, strategically placed vents help air to flow between the coils and through the layers, making for a cool, comfortable sleep environment.
What We Liked
- Special coils – Only Stearns & Foster beds can lay claim to the nested IntelliCoil® design, and per Sydeny, these springs lend the mattress “outstanding comfort and support that lasts.” She also complimented the bolstered edges, which maintained their shape well during testing.
- Firm, but customizable – This bed’s interior is bracing enough for back and stomach sleepers, but you can soften the feel enough for side sleeping if you order the appropriate pillow top.
Potential Drawbacks
- Not easy on the wallet – You’re looking at an extremely luxurious mattress, and its price reflects its classy status. Expect to pay around $3,000 for Lux Estate, and keep an eye out for coupons.
- Very heavy – Multiple customer reviews mention that this is a very heavy bed. It will be difficult to move on your own, so be sure to recruit a friend or two if you have to move it around.
Customer Reviews of the Lux Estate
On the Stearns & Foster website, the Lux Estate has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, which is an average pulled from more than 700 reviews. People definitely appreciate how customizable and versatile this bed is, and many have found their preferred firmness level by choosing the right pillow top. However, more than one review says that the weight of the bed makes it a chore to move.

Why the DreamCloud Earned Best Hotel Mattress in a Box
DreamCloud fits a lofty 7-layer mattress into convenient packaging for delivery, which is impressive enough. But when you factor in the budget-friendly price of this bed, as well as all the elements of its hybrid construction, you’ll see why it handily won best hotel mattress in a box.
“It feels like luxury at an affordable cost,” said Stuart, who took the DreamCloud for a test run. He was taken with this bed’s cashmere blend cover, surprisingly firmer feel, and the support he got from the innersprings—especially on his back and stomach. He commented multiple times on just how swanky this mattress looked and felt.
What’s the DreamCloud Made Of?
If you count its upper and lower covers, the DreamCloud has seven distinct layers, and it stands a lavish 14 inches high.
Our reviewer Stuart was a big fan of the cover’s scalloped design and feel: “It mimics the look of clouds, which I think is really cool … It also makes the top of the bed feel a little more plush.” Notably, DreamCloud’s cover incorporates cashmere, which is an exceptionally soft and sought-after fiber that we don’t encounter too often in our testing.
There are 1.5 inches of plush foam stitched into the cover that make for a pillowy surface layer. They’re followed by an inch of gel-infused memory foam, which should mold to the peaks and valleys of your body and relieve pressure from your joints.
The next layer consists of 2 inches of firmer, “dynamic” foam that provide support for your spine and form a barrier between the comfort layers and the spring system.
The springs in the DreamCloud take up 8.5 inches of its height, and they’re reinforced around the edges. They sit on top of an additional inch of foam that ensures the mattress’s overall stability.
Around the sides and bottom of the bed, there’s a lower cover outfitted with handles for convenient transport.
What We Liked
- Super for stomach and back sleepers – Stuart is a combination sleeper, and knows how tough it can be to find a bed with the right amounts of both give and support. “I loved this bed on my stomach and back,” he said. “I felt very supported in my hips, and I could feel the plusher top layers help relieve pressure.”
- Easy to readjust while you sleep – “We had no problems adjusting positions and never felt stuck in the bed,” said Stuart. He attributes the DreamCloud’s responsiveness to its sizable coil unit.
- Perks at a great price – The DreamCloud is often priced lower than comparable hybrids, making it an attractive option for folks who want an affordable bed that still reminds them of a lavish hotel stay.
Potential Drawbacks
- Surprisingly firm – This bed falls into the medium-firm range on our firmness scale, but as Stuart said, “It’s definitely not as cloud-like as you’d imagine from a name like DreamCloud.” He wouldn’t recommend it to side sleepers, as they’re apt to feel some pressure buildup in their hips and shoulders.
- Lackluster edge support – “The edges are a little weaker than we’d expect from a hybrid,” Stuart commented. If you need a ton of room to spread out, opt for a larger size, or a mattress with a more bolstered perimeter.
Customer Reviews of the DreamCloud
The DreamCloud Original scores a solid 4.7 out of 5 stars among customers on its site. While some customers appreciate the value and affordability of the DreamCloud Original mattress, others find it to be on the heavier side, which could make moving or rotating the mattress more challenging.

Why the Puffy Lux Hybrid Earned Best Hotel Mattress for Side Sleepers
The Puffy Lux Hybrid devotes almost half of its profile to pressure-relieving foams, creating a hybrid mattress with a truly heavenly top. According to Julia, our Lead Product Tester, these foams “do a good job of shaping around your body, which will help keep pressure off key areas like the hips and shoulders. You’re sinking right into this cloud of a mattress.”
She recommended this bed specifically for side sleepers, and characterized it as “straight-up soft”—a plush callback to the most cushiony of hotel mattresses.
What’s the Puffy Lux Hybrid Made Of?
The Puffy Lux Hybrid is 12 inches tall and has five total layers, including its top cover. That cover is zippered and can be removed if you want to wash it; it’s also stain-resistant and hypoallergenic.
The first of three foam layers, 1.5 inches of gel-infused Cooling Cloud™ Foam gently hugs sensitive pressure points and aims to offload heat. Beneath it, 1.5-inch layer of Plush Dual Cloud Foam focuses its contouring efforts on the back and lumbar region. A 2-inch layer of Climate Comfort™ Foam buffers the above layers from the coil unit and resists uncomfortable humidity.
A 7-inch layer of individually wrapped coils, framed by a dense foam perimeter, provides support across the entire mattress’s surface. Along with all of the other layers, it’s held in place by the bed’s textured bottom cover.
What We Liked
- Notably soft – At 4.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, this is one of the softest mattresses we’ve tested. Julia was excited by just how plush it felt: “Man, is it cloud-like. So soft, like a big hug!”
- Absorbs motion well – Even though it’s a hybrid bed, those upper foam layers do wonders for motion isolation. “[The Puffy Lux Hybrid] does a really good job of absorbing the feeling of movement,” Julia said. It was only when she shook the mattress really aggressively that motion registered for our testers.
Potential Drawbacks
- Too soft for some folks – “I don’t see this being supportive enough for stomach sleepers or plus-sized folks long-term,” Julia cautioned. “It needs to either have better lumbar features or a firmer feel.”
- Cooling features aren’t spectacular – Julia never felt too hot on this bed, but she wasn’t impressed by its stack of supposedly heat-regulating foams. “[It’s] hard to tell if they are actually doing any regulating,” she reported.
Customer Reviews of the Puffy Lux Hybrid
The Puffy Lux Hybrid boasts several 5 star reviews on its site from customers who credit the comfort of the mattress and its ease on their aches and pains for their high ratings.

Why the Loom & Leaf Earned Best Memory Foam Hotel Mattress
Although most fancy hotels opt to put hybrid mattresses in their rooms, certain memory foam beds can be just as lavish. Saatva’s Loom & Leaf model is a prime example. According to Stuart, it’s “soft and luxurious, but doesn’t sacrifice any support.” With five separate layers of specialized foams, it keeps you from feeling too sunken in—in fact, Stuart likened its feel to that of an especially pillowy yet buoying hammock.
“People in the market for affordable luxury: This is a very good-looking bed,” he concluded. “It looks and feels high-end, though similar beds in stores can cost you thousands more.”
What’s the Loom & Leaf Made Of?
The Loom & Leaf has six total layers and stands 12 inches tall. You can choose between two feels: Relaxed Firm and Firm.
The organic cotton cover features “Lumbar Zone® Quilting,” which makes the middle third of the cover firmer beneath your lower back. Next, a “crown” of gel-infused memory foam also gives a boost to the sensitive lumbar region.
It’s followed by 2 inches of gel-infused memory foam that’s been perforated to make it more breathable. This foam cradles your pressure points to help unburden your body. Underneath is a 2.5-inch layer of slightly firmer memory foam, contributing to both pressure relief and support.
A 2-inch sheet of transitional foam varies in firmness depending on which feel (Relaxed Firm or Firm) you select. It leads into the 5.5-inch foam base, which acts as the bed’s durable foundation.
What We Liked
- More versatile than its competitors – “Despite this bed’s plushy cover it still got a six [on our firmness scale], which is a softness score that tends to be really versatile,” Stuart said, adding that it worked for him in all three primary sleep positions. Furthermore, most memory foam beds aren’t nearly as customizable as this one, which offers you two firmness levels to choose from.
- Foam that cradles but also lifts you up – Balancing plushness and support is a tightrope walk for many beds, but the Loom & Leaf does it well. “More traditional materials can leave you stuck in the mud, but a combination of features here, including the cover, work to keep you cradled near the top and keep it simple to navigate,” Stuart reported.
Potential Drawbacks
- Not much bounce – There are no coils inside the Loom & Leaf, so you won’t enjoy the same level of springiness you would on a hybrid model.
- Pricier than other all-foam beds – Compared to other all-foam mattresses, the Loom & Leaf is in a class of its own. But its upgrades do come at a cost—before sales, a queen is priced around $2,400.
Customer Reviews of the Loom & Leaf
On Saatva’s website, the Loom & Leaf has more than 500 reviews and an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars. The most common complaint from buyers is that it feels firmer than they anticipated, but the vast majority of reviews cite Saatva’s thoughtful customer service and credit the bed with helping to alleviate stiffness and aches.

Why the Emma Hybrid Comfort Earned Best Hotel Mattress for Heavy People
The Emma Hybrid Comfort has a hotel-quality feel that’s welcoming to all body types. The brand designed this bed not only to be shared by sleeping partners, but to reliably support heavier people where other mattresses might sink and sag.
It accomplishes these goals by stacking three specialized foam layers above its sturdy coil unit, and by splitting that coil unit into seven zones for specialized support.
What’s the Emma Hybrid Comfort Made Of?
The Emma Hybrid Comfort is 13 inches tall and contains 6 layers, including a moisture-wicking cover.
Underneath is a layer of cooling Airgocell® foam with an open-cell structure. This design means that air can flow through the body of the foam (which prevents too much heat retention) and that it’s less dense than closed-cell foams (such as traditional memory foam).
Next is a sheet of cooling memory foam, which is responsible for full-body pressure relief as well as impressive motion isolation. It’s followed by a layer of HRX (High Resiliency Extra) foam, a durable foam that feels particularly firm and promotes healthy spinal alignment.
The Hybrid Comfort’s spring unit consists of pocketed coils that are robust enough to buoy heavyweight sleepers.
It’s also zoned into seven areas that provide varying levels of pushback to different areas of the body, so you feel more bolstered where you need more support.
Finally, there’s a layer of thick foam at the mattress’s base.
What We Liked
- Fair motion isolation – Hybrids tend to struggle with motion isolation, but this mattress does better than you’d expect. The three foam layers on top of its innerspring unit work together to keep you from feeling smaller movements (though you’ll still probably feel big shifts).
- It should last a long time – When you design a bed for plus-sized people, its components need to be durable. The Emma Hybrid Comfort is bound to last longer than mattresses with lower weight capacities.
Potential Drawbacks
- It’s quite firm – The foams inside the Hybrid Comfort do provide some pressure relief, but overall it may prove unyielding to lightweight sleepers and those who prefer the side-sleeping position.
- It’s not super green – If you’re searching for a bed that incorporates particularly eco-friendly or organic materials, this bed isn’t for you. It’s worth mentioning, however, that all of its foams are CertiPUR-US® certified, meaning they don’t contain any of the potentially harmful materials sometimes found in lower-quality foams.
Customer Reviews of the Emma Hybrid Comfort
This is a fairly new mattress, so Emma’s site doesn’t have many reviews yet, but early customers already rate it an impressive 5 out of 5 stars. So far customers appreciate the Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress for its excellent motion isolation, but some have reported that it may have a slight initial off-gassing odor upon unboxing.

Why the WinkBed Earned Best Hotel Mattress for Back Pain
The WinkBed is a hotel-quality mattress with specialized components geared toward spinal alignment. If you’ve experienced back pain, you know that excessive softness is not the answer—instead, you need a firm foundation of support coupled with just enough soothing pressure relief.
With its mix of foams and coils, the WinkBed has all the ingredients for combating sore backs. “I like that this cradles my body but it’s also supportive,” our reviewer, Mark, said of the mattress’s balanced feel. The coils in this bed are zoned for selective support, and they work with a thicker foam layer around the lumbar region to give your back the right amount of lift in the right places.
What’s the WinkBed Made Of?
The WinkBed is 13.5 inches tall and features a hybrid design. It begins with a breathable cover made from a Eucalyptus-derived fabric called Tencel©.
Underneath is a Euro-style pillow top that’s quilted with gel-infused foam. WinkBeds describes this foam as “Hypersoft,” and claims that it shouldn’t allow heat to accumulate around your body.
This pressure-relieving layer segues into a couple additional comfort layers of foam, augmented by firmer support in the lumbar (or lower back) region.
The WinkBed’s coil unit is split into different “support zones” that provide more pushback or cushioning depending on which area of the body they’re bolstering. They unit also has an Extra-Edge™ Support System—reinforced springs around the bed’s perimeter that keep its edges sturdy under pressure.
What We Liked
- It’s customizable – As Mark commented, with the WinkBed, “you can choose what style is going to best fit your body.” This mattress is available in Softer, Luxury Firm, Firmer, and Plus versions, the last of which is meant for heavyweight sleepers.
- It’s extremely strong – WinkBeds are handcrafted in an American factory, and their design has undergone loads of third-party testing to guarantee its durability. Our tester Sean admired this aspect of the WinkBed: “It is literally a strong and sturdy bed.”
- It stays cool – WinkBeds references its Triple Layer Heat Disperse™ technology throughout its marketing. This term encompasses the three major cooling elements of the mattress: its Tencel© cover, its gel-infused foam, and its coil unit, which permits air circulation. During testing, Sean confirmed that the mattress is indeed a pleasant temperature: “From the start, the bed feels cool to the touch.”
Potential Drawbacks
- You won’t sink very deep – “People who like to feel like they are sleeping in the bed may feel more like they are floating on top of this mattress,” said Sean. “But there should be plenty of pressure relief to make up for that.”
- It transfers a bit of motion – Sean noticed that the WinkBed doesn’t isolate motion quite as well as an all-foam bed. However, because the coils are individually wrapped in tiny fabric pockets, they don’t pass as much movement to their neighbors as older, interconnected designs.
Customer Reviews of the WinkBed
On the WinkBeds site, the WinkBed earns a 4.8 out of 5 stars. One drawback of the WinkBed mattress is that it might be too expensive for budget-conscious shoppers, but overall it offers excellent durability and customizable firmness options.

Why the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Earned Best Budget Hotel Mattress
A lot of care goes into the making of a single Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress. Whereas other brands might collect components from outside sources, Brooklyn Bedding makes their high-density foams and steel coils in-house. Their craftsmen then assemble each hybrid bed in an American factory, stacking five layers into a Soft, Medium, or Firm model.
The result is a mattress with a hotel-quality feel and a surprisingly affordable price. As our tester Emma remarked, “Spoiler alert: If you’re looking for an affordable and durable mattress, you might just love this bed.”
What’s the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Made Of?
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is 11.5 inches tall and features five total layers. It begins with a 1-inch quilted top made with soft, breathable fabric. In the Firm version of this bed, the top is a bit thicker and more tightly quilted for a flatter feel.
Next is a layer of responsive foam with high elasticity. It’s designed to help you move around easily on the surface of the bed, but it also offers pressure relief for the parts of your body that sink in the most.
It’s followed by a layer of VariFlex™ foam that offers more support and separates the comfort layers from the 8-inch coil unit. Built from up to 961 springs, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid’s coil system has higher-gauge coils around the edges to prevent them from dipping. They’re positioned on top of a 0.25-inch high-density foam base that lends them a sturdy foundation and ups the bed’s overall longevity.
What We Liked
- Versatile enough for all positions – Both of our testers were pleased by how this mattress adapted to different sleeping positions. “It’s very supportive, which is great for back and stomach sleepers,” said Emma. Mark commented that it felt great to him when he slept on his side, while Emma had a slightly more measured reaction: “if I exclusively slept on my side, I’d probably choose a softer bed. But it shouldn’t be a problem for combo sleepers.”
- Couples should love it – “Hybrids usually perform pretty average when it comes to motion transfer,” said Emma. “[So] we were surprised at how well [the] Signature Hybrid isolated motion.” Its edge support—another factor that’s important for couples—was likewise impressive: “I can lay right on the edge without feeling like I’m going to fall out.”
- It’s affordable – Some hybrids threaten to break the bank with lots of bonus features. But the Signature Hybrid is often available for around $1,000 for a queen.
Potential Drawbacks
- It’s on the firm side – You won’t get the classic memory-foam feel of sinking through the top layers of this mattress. Instead, as Emma put it, “It almost feels like the bed is lifting me up.” If you want more plushness, we suggest investigating other models.
- It’s simple (but effective) – With five layers and a straightforward construction, “this bed doesn’t have a ton of bells and whistles,” said Emma. But if you’re drawn to a simple design executed well, you’ll probably be satisfied.
Customer Reviews of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature
On Brooklyn Bedding’s website, the Brooklyn Signature has 4.7 out of 5 stars. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress receives praise from customers for its versatility with different firmness options, but some have mentioned that it may produce slight noise when bearing weight.

Why the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Earned Best Hotel Mattress for Couples
While reviewing the Sapira Chill Hybrid, our lead product tester Julia kept repeating one word: balance. This is a bed that expertly splits the difference between pillowy and supportive, giving it the same versatility as many hotel mattresses.
Its versatility is also what makes it a wise choice for couples. Julia pointed out that sleepers of all stripes should feel cozy on this hybrid (with the possible exception of heavy stomach sleepers). Its edge support and motion isolation also received high marks, so sleeping partners should be able to spread out without fear of sinkage or too much shaking.
What’s the Sapira Chill Hybrid Made Of?
The Sapira Chill Hybrid has seven total layers, including its top cover, and stands 14 inches tall. Its cover is part of the explanation behind its name: it features fibers that help to stave off heat.
Underneath is a 2-inch layer of gel-infused foam that further assists with cooling. Per Julia, it gives this bed “plenty of cushion.” It’s followed by a 1.5-inch layer of breathable comfort foam, and a 1-inch layer of responsive memory foam. A 1-inch transitional layer of foam buffers the upper foams from the mattress’s spring unit.
The coils inside the Sapira Chill Hybrid are individually wrapped and divided into zones that give your hips some extra lift. Two side rows of coils along the edges of the bed keep the perimeter strong under pressure.
Finally, a 0.75-inch base of high-density foam grounds the mattress and provides foundational support.
What We Liked
- Luxury and lift for your back – Julia thought the Sapira Chill Hybrid hit an idea ratio of support to cushioning. “The lumbar zone gets plenty of lift, and you have a nice mattress surface that lightly hugs around the body,” she said.
- Choose your firmness – This bed is available in Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm variants. Julia tested the Medium-Firm model and found it suitable for nearly any sleeping position.
Potential Drawbacks
- Cooling isn’t incredible – Julia couldn’t acutely feel any cooling effects from the bed’s cover or inner foams. That said, she definitely didn’t overheat, either.
- Stomach sleepers should go firmer – There was just the slightest dip around Julia’s midsection when she tried this bed on her stomach. “I know too well that firmer support is needed for the midsection,” she said. “Combo sleepers that frequent their stomachs would be better candidates [for this bed] over true stomach sleepers.”
Customer Reviews of the Leesa Sapira Hybrid
The Leesa Original rates 4.5 stars out of 5 on Leesa’s website. Customers often praise the Leesa Original mattress for its balanced support and pressure relief, though some have noted that it may not be the best option for those seeking an exceptionally firm mattress.

Buying a Hotel Mattress Online vs. In-Store
When you’re hoping to capture the feel of a hotel mattress with a new bed in your home, you might be tempted to visit area mattress stores and try out various models.
This approach does allow you to lie on top of a bed before buying it, but in the long run, it tends to be the more costly option—plus, it requires you to interact with salespeople, who often have priorities other than your comfort.
Buying a hotel mattress online will likely save you some money, as these mattress brands can ship directly to you, the consumer. They aren’t forced to first sell their beds to retail stores, where the price will then escalate even more so that both the manufacturer and the retailer can profit.
Additionally, online mattress companies should still give you the chance to test out a bed at home for multiple days, weeks, or even months. These long-term sleep trials are a much better indicator of whether a mattress is a good fit for you than a brief nap in a store setting.
Benefits of Buying a Hotel Bed In-Store
- You can test the bed immediately (even if briefly)
- You can compare the feel of different models
Benefits of Buying a Hotel Bed Online
- Convenient shopping experience free of pushy salespeople
- Long-term sleep trials give you a clear idea of how you’ll sleep on a mattress
- Lower overall costs for the same quality
- Easier mattress transport and setup, often with white-glove delivery service
- Simple return processes if a mattress doesn’t work out
Hotel Mattress Survey
What Types of Mattresses Do Hotels Use?
Reputable hotels most commonly outfit their rooms with hybrid mattresses that combine a supportive innerspring unit with comfort layers on top. Some hotels may use more traditional innerspring models, or all-foam mattresses made with latex, memory, or poly foam layers.
So, what’s the difference between these types of hotel beds? You can read more about each variety below.
Innerspring Hotel Mattresses
An innerspring mattress derives its support (and its name) from a coil unit inside the bed. The coils may be interconnected or “pocketed,” which means they’re wrapped in small fabric sleeves and move independently of one another.
The most modern hotel mattresses should have pocketed coils with high durability. The springs will lend the bed a bouncy feel and a lot of responsiveness, which makes moving about on the mattress easier. Innerspring beds are also naturally cool, as the coil unit allows for airflow between its springs.
However, traditional innerspring mattresses are prone to sagging over time, and they may not feel as plush or comfortable as foam or hybrid beds.
Memory Foam Hotel Mattresses
Hotels may opt for memory foam mattresses if they want their beds to have an especially plush feel. When you lie down on memory foam, the material compresses beneath and conforms to the shape of your body, supplying a signature hug-like sensation.
Memory foam is known for retaining heat, so hotel chains that use memory foam beds tend to buy ones with cooling features built in. These features might be vented gussets, breathable covers, and/or infusions of cooling gels or metals into the body of the foam itself.
Latex Hotel Mattresses
Latex foam is a relative newcomer to the mattress scene, but it’s a material with a lot of potential. Luxury hotels might prize latex for its innate breathability, durability, and responsiveness. It represents a great (but often expensive) compromise between the benefits of memory foam and springs.
Check out our picks for the best latex mattresses.
Hybrid Hotel Mattresses
Hybrids are particularly popular as hotel mattresses because they’re constructed with both spring units and foam layers for comfort. This format allows for both versatility and opulence, as you can fit many more layers in a hybrid mattress than in an all-foam or innerspring model.
The foam layers inside a hybrid bed might be memory foam, another kind of poly foam, latex foam, or a mix of these types. They provide a soft, cozy buffer between the sleeper and the bed’s springs, which contribute the bulk of the support.
What to Consider When Shopping for a Luxury Hotel Mattress
Price
Mattresses that mimic those found in hotel rooms will probably be a bit more expensive than your average bed. That’s because the best hotel mattresses utilize high-quality, durable materials.
If you’re craving the exact experience you had on a mattress during a vacation, many hotels make it possible for you to buy their proprietary mattresses online. These mattresses can cost thousands of dollars (for example, the Ritz-Carlton Bed is more than $3,000 for a queen).
You can save money by browsing more mainstream mattress models that feel similar to the hotel mattress you loved. The mattresses in our above roundup are more affordable than their hotel counterparts, but should offer a comparable degree of comfort.
Explore our picks for the best luxury mattresses.
Firmness
A mattress’s firmness falls somewhere on the scale between quite soft and quite unyielding. We provide numerical rankings for each bed on a firmness scale of 1-10 in our in-depth reviews.
It’s a subjective metric, however, so know that your experience of a bed’s firmness may not match another person’s, especially if you have dramatically different body types.
Many hotel mattresses strike a desirable balance by having a medium-firm surface. This is the most comfortable firmness level for the average person, and it accommodates most sleeping preferences.
Think back to mattresses you’ve slept on in the past and enjoyed. Did they have a plush, sinking feeling when you laid down on them, or did they make you feel more buoyed and supported? Using your personal preferences as a guide, you can help narrow down the best new hotel-inspired mattress for your home.
Sleeping Position
Your sleeping position has more bearing on your ideal hotel mattress than you might think. Different positions correlate with different firmness levels, and put stress on different pressure points throughout the body.
Back sleepers generally need a medium-firm mattress that mixes support and pressure relief well. This position results in a neutral spine and the most even weight distribution across the mattress, so it’s often recommended as the most health-conscious posture.
Side sleepers need a softer mattress that will cushion their shoulders and hips. These “sharp” pressure points are enduring most of the strain in this position, so a plush surface is best. You’ll still want a supportive foundation, though!
Stomach sleepers need a firm mattress that will prevent too much sinkage around their hips. A mattress that’s too soft will let their lower body dip into the bed and push their spine out of alignment.
Combination sleepers should look for a bed that will allow them to change positions easily during the night. They typically do well with a medium-firm mattress with a high degree of responsiveness.
Cooling
The best hotel mattresses have state-of-the-art cooling features so that guests don’t wake up sweaty and uncomfortable. While you’re looking for your new mattress, keep an eye out for the following cooling elements:
- Spring units that allow for extra airflow
- Vents or breathable gussets
- Covers made of breathable material, such as cotton
- Foams infused with cooling gels or metals, such as copper
- Foams with open-cell structures
- Latex foam, which is naturally more breathable than synthetic foams
- Other temperature-regulating fabrics or “phase change” technologies that dissipate heat
Explore our picks for the Best Cooling Mattresses
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation refers to how well a mattress limits the transfer of motion across its surface. Many hotel beds invest in this feature so that guests who are sleeping with a partner won’t be awoken by movement during the night.
If you’re a light sleeper, motion isolation is especially important. Look at mattresses that incorporate foam layers, which tend to be the best at restricting motion transfer. Traditional innerspring mattresses, on the other hand, don’t do as well in this department.
Discover the Best Beds for Couples here.
Edge Support
Mattresses with superior edge support don’t dip or sag at their borders, even when you’re sitting on them or pushing down on them to get in or out of bed. They may accomplish their edge support with reinforced coils or foams along the perimeter.
Hotel mattresses should have notably good edge support, as this is an important feature for couples (or anyone sharing a bed). It allows sleepers to spread out over the bed’s entire surface area without fear of feeling like they’re about to fall off.

Mattress Toppers and Accessories for a Luxury Hotel Feel
Sometimes, an amazing hotel mattress owes much of its memorable feel to its bedding and accessories. Hotels wisely outfit their beds with quality sheets, pillows, and mattress toppers so that guests are cozy from head to toe.
The next time you stay at a hotel and find yourself impressed with the bed, check to see if there’s a built-in pillow top layer or a separate mattress topper beneath the fitted sheets. If there’s a topper, then you might want to try one for yourself at home. Peruse our list of the best mattress toppers and best pillows available to get started.
Hotel Mattress FAQs
What type of mattress do the best hotels use?
Hotels typically go for hybrid and innerspring mattresses because they’re durable and more breathable than memory foam models. In addition, hybrids and innerspring beds are more responsive, so they’re also easier for people with mobility issues to use.
Why are hotel mattresses so comfortable?
Hotel mattresses are so comfortable because hotels focus on the entirety of the sleep experience. Many establishments credit their entire bedding system for creating their signature feels, using mattress toppers, pillows, and sheets to enhance how their mattresses perform. Plus, hotel rooms are often colder in temperature, which helps facilitate a great night’s sleep.
What is the price of a hotel mattress?
Hotel mattresses are often expensive because they’re typically made exclusively for the hotel in question. The price of a hotel mattress (if it’s available for sale) can range from 900 to 2000 dollars depending on the manufacturer and the bed size you choose.
What mattress firmness do hotels use?
Most hotels use medium to medium-firm mattresses because these fit most sleepers. Since the majority of people sleep on their side and back, medium and medium-firm mattresses prove to be a good fit for most hotel guests.
What mattress toppers to hotels use?
Hotels often use pillow top or memory foam mattress toppers. These types of toppers provide extra cushion and support.
A few of our favorite toppers that would mimic the hotel experience include the TEMPUR-Adapt® mattress topper and the Saatva Graphite mattress topper.
Conclusion
Not everyone can afford an extended hotel stay—especially at a five-star venue—but you can still sleep as though you’re on an indefinite vacation. When you invest in the best mattress that reminds you of your favorite hotel, going to bed each night becomes its own kind of luxurious getaway.
