Do you crave the comfort of memory foam and want something that won’t break the bank? If so, the budget-friendly Aveline mattress may be just the thing.
This mattress has a comforting gel memory material designed for pressure relief and cooling. The Aveline is available in three firmness and thickness options, but we only tested the medium-firm, 10-inch model.
Our team tested how Aveline feels in various sleeping positions, with a special focus on how the mattress relieves pressure and supports your body in alignment. We also checked its cooling capabilities, motion isolation, bounce, edge support, and more to help you figure out if this memory foam model is what you’re looking for.

Who We Recommend The Aveline For:
- People with pressure buildup – Memory foam gives that deep hugging sensation that should wipe away any back or neck strain and help you rest with less tension. This pressure-relieving quality could be especially good for side sleepers who need extra protection from pressure buildup.
- Budget shoppers – Beds can be costly, and finding a quality option that works for a tighter spending limit can be difficult. Modway makes this process easier for you by streamlining their market approach.
- Couples – Memory materials are great for a variety of sleep preferences and needs. One of the top features is motion isolation. The foams in this product are designed to limit the effects of movement by trapping it inside the material’s many memory cells.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Aveline For:
- People who prefer a traditional innerspring mattress feel – If you’re looking for the bounce that coils provide, a memory foam mattress might not be your answer. The good news is the brand offers several hybrid innerspring mattresses as well — all at similarly budget-friendly prices.
- Heavy stomach sleepers – This bed has a medium firmness that could be suitable for lighter-frame stomach sleepers who won’t sink too deeply into the materials. Average to heavy stomach sleepers may not find the support they need to keep their hips level with the rest of their body. This could cause the back to arch, leading to morning aches and pains.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic, and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
We score mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest.
After testing the Aveline 10” mattress, we think it falls right at a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This means the mattress has a medium feel, which should work for most people. Its medium firmness makes it a perfect choice for most back sleepers and average-weight people, though it should also work for lightweight people, especially those sleeping on their stomachs.
One thing to keep in mind is that you may experience its firmness differently depending on your overall body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position.
How Does It Feel?
The first thing that stands out with this mattress is the stretch-knit cover with a diamond pattern. When you lie on it, you notice the cover is soft and relatively cool to the touch. Next, you feel the foams conform to your body, cradling curves and relieving pressure in the hips, knees, and shoulders.
The layers beneath take a little longer to respond and may feel a bit firmer at first. However, you’ll feel your body easing into those the longer you lie on the bed.
What We Like About the Aveline
- Cooling memory foam – If you’re a hot sleeper but love memory foam, you know the struggle of staying temperature-neutral despite the material’s notorious tendency to overheat. However, the Aveline mattress allows you to enjoy the slow-sinking feel of memory foam without the trapped heat, as the mattress’ foam has a gel infusion to help it sleep cooler.
- Open-cell structure – If gel in your memory foam isn’t enough to keep you cool, the company made sure to add more cooling features. The first foam layer has an open-cell structure that improves airflow, allowing the gel to pull your body heat away through these air channels.
- Bed-in-a-box shipping – Trying to transport a full-size mattress is not impossible, but it can certainly be tricky. This is why more and more brands, including Modway, are choosing bed-in-a-box shipping to make the process easier.
Our Aveline Complaints
- Short trial – Although shorter trial periods are common for budget mattresses, we still feel like they could have added a few more days to the deal. The Aveline mattress comes with a 30-day trial, which may not be enough for everyone to evaluate whether the bed fits their needs.
- Not for combination sleepers – Those who change positions throughout the night may not feel supported enough in all sleeping positions. Plus, the lack of bounce can make it difficult to switch positions for some people.
- Not for heavy sleepers – People over 230 pounds might not feel supported enough in some positions, particularly when sleeping on their stomachs. The Aveline mattress has medium firmness, but heavy people will likely experience it as softer, which means they may not get enough support to keep the body aligned.
Testing the Aveline Mattress: How It Performed
We put mattresses through specific tests to determine what kind of sleepers might be the best match for each model. This includes seeing how the bed feels and performs in different sleeping positions, as well as looking for prefrence-based features like cooling motion isolation, edge support, and bounce.
For more on our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
The manufacturer recommends a weight limit of around 660 pounds for their beds or 330 pounds per person. If you exceed this weight limit, you might want to look for a mattress that can better support your needs. Even if you fall within this limit, you still might not find the bed to be the best fit — many plus-size people find the softer layers are not firm enough to support heavier weights, and these sleepers may “bottom out” on the mattress.
Weight | Side SleepersIcon | Back SleepersIcon | Stomach SleepersIcon |
Lightweight Sleepers (-130 lbs) | ★★☆ | ★★★ | ★★★ |
Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 lbs) | ★★★ | ★★★ | ★★☆ |
Heavyweight Sleepers (+230 lbs) | ★☆☆ | ★☆☆ | ☆☆☆ |
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Some side sleepers under 130 pounds may find this mattress too firm for their liking. However, the memory foam layers are excellent at relieving pressure, so even the lightest side sleepers should feel that gentle cradling around the hips, knees, and shoulders.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight side sleepers are likely to sink deeper, so they should feel more of the foam’s pressure-relieving capabilities. The medium firmness helps keep the body aligned so the spine remains neutral.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – We think heavy side sleepers should look at a firmer mattress, potentially a hybrid or innerspring option. Although some may like the softer feel of memory foam, the Aveline is unlikely to offer enough support.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Back sleepers under 130 pounds should appreciate how the foam molds around their backs to relieve pressure and pain in the lumbar area.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – We think that average-weight back sleepers are a good match for the Aveline mattress, though some may sink more or less depending on their exact weight. The foam cradles the pressure points in this position, keeping the shoulders and hips aligned in a healthy sleep posture.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy back sleepers may find their hips sinking too deeply into the foam, which can throw the back out of alignment. For this reason, we think most back sleepers over 230 pounds should look for a firmer bed.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should like the Aveline’s medium firmness. The slow-responding memory foam cradles the hips while offering an even weight distribution and support to ensure your body is aligned.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – The Aveline mattress may work for some stomach sleepers closer to 150 pounds. Average-weight stomach sleepers weighing closer to 230 pounds may experience too much sinkage and not enough support.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – We don’t think the Aveline is the right choice for heavy stomach sleepers — try a firmer bed that has an innerspring layer for more stability and support.
Pressure Relief
5/5
Memory materials are well-known for relieving the aches and pains that can develop when parts of your body are compressed for a lengthy period, such as during sleep. The gel-infused layer in the Aveline mattress is designed to provide all-over relief by cradling the body in a deep hug. This could be especially helpful for side sleepers prone to excess pressure in the shoulders and hips.
Is the Aveline Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
The Aveline mattress has a medium firmness that should suit the majority of sleepers. It’s built with memory foam layers known for their excellent relieving capabilities. Sleepers should experience their weight evenly distributed across the mattress in a way that prevents tension from building up at new pressure points. The slow-sinking foam offers a gentle cradling effect that helps relieve existing pain and pressure in the hips, back, and shoulders.
Back Pain
People with back pain should find some relief as the Aveline’s foams cradle the body without taking away from its support level. The mattress has a medium firmness that ensures there’s just enough sinkage to relieve pressure and pain without throwing the spine out of alignment. Side and back sleepers with back pain should feel equally supported in a healthy sleep posture.
Hip Pain
Hip pain can make it difficult to fall and stay asleep, so having a mattress that alleviates those aches can be of great help. The Aveline is a good option in this regard because it offers a combination of pressure relief and support. People with hip pain should appreciate the gentle cradling sensation it provides, which helps relieve pressure in this area without letting you sink too deeply.
Shoulder Pain
We think the Aveline mattress is a good option for people with shoulder pain, as the bed features memory foam that’s excellent for soothing pain and pressure. The medium firmness offers enough support to keep you in proper alignment while your shoulders, which make significant contact with the mattress, get gentle relief, regardless of whether you sleep on the back or side.
Support
4/5
Without a base of support, sleepers would sink through a mattress and end up in an awkward and uncomfortable position. Aveline has a responsive base foam layer that should help promote a neutral spine and prevent that stuck feeling when you try to reposition or get in or out of bed.
While memory foam is wonderful for relieving pressure from achy muscles and joints, all-foam beds may lack the support that certain types of sleepers need. Dedicated stomach sleepers, heavier folks, and those with mobility issues may want to consider one of the brand’s hybrid innerspring models.
Motion Transfer
4/5
This mattress should excel at isolating motion so it doesn’t ripple across the bed and interrupt your sleep. For couples or those who sleep with pets, this could help to keep you sleeping soundly, regardless of how much movement your bedmate makes.
One way we test motion isolation is by placing a glass or a bottle on one side of the bed to see if it wobbles when we move around or switch positions on the other side. When it comes to the Aveline mattress, we noticed very little motion transfer, which means this bed is good for light sleepers who share a bed with restless sleepers.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4/5
Cooling is another major factor to consider when buying a new mattress. There’s always a concern with memory foam beds because the material tends to trap heat, which is why most brands add cooling features and technologies like gel infusions to their all-foam beds.
The Aveline has a cooling cover that takes away a small amount of heat and an open-cell top layer that allows plenty of airflow. There’s also gel in the first memory foam layer, which helps pull your body heat away and dissipates it throughout the bed to prevent you from feeling excess heat building up on the surface.
Bounce
2/5
Mattresses usually offer either better motion isolation or bounce, and in the case of memory foam beds, it’s almost always motion isolation. Memory foam is slow to respond, which you can see when you press into it. When you pull back, you can see the foam moving back to its shape very slowly.
While this is good for isolating motion and relieving pressure, it’s not the best for responsiveness and bounce. The Aveline has virtually no bounce, which is something to keep in mind if you like a bed with a bouncy feel that’s easy to move around on.
Edge Support
2/5
Edge support refers to how well the mattress maintains its structure and stability at its sides and corners. It’s particularly important for couples and co-sleepers looking to use the entire surface of the bed. Sadly, the Aveline isn’t the best option if edge support is among the most important features for you.
When sitting and lying near the edge of the bed, we noticed the sides collapse quite a bit. This is due to the nature of its foam and its medium firmness level, which tend to give way along the edges.
Performance for Couples
3/5
Whether this bed will suit you and your partner depends on what factors you find most important. Those who sleep hot should appreciate the bed’s gel memory foam and slightly cooling cover. The mattress also has excellent motion-isolating capabilities, so you’re unlikely to feel your partner’s tossing and turning. However, it might not be the best option for couples who want a bouncy bed or one with good edge support since this memory foam mattress lacks both.

Preference-Based Features
- Multiple Height Options
In addition to this 10-inch model, Modway offers the Aveline in 6-inch and 8-inch sizes, which are more budget-friendly and less firm.
- Bed-in-a-Box Shipping
The company ships this mattress compressed and rolled into a box. When it arrives at your doorstep, all you have to do is unroll it onto your bed frame and give it roughly 36 hours to expand to its full size.
- Adjustable Base Compatible
You can use any bed foundation with this mattress, including an adjustable base if you want to customize its feel and performance even more.
Construction: What’s Inside the Aveline?
The first thing you’ll notice is that the Aveline doesn’t have many bells and whistles. It’s a simple mattress with a few handy features that enhance its cooling, pressure relief, and motion isolation. The construction has two layers covered with a diamond-patterned, breathable, four-way stretch knit fabric.
The mattress comes in three height options, each incorporating the same basic design: 2 inches of memory foam atop a polyfoam base. Here is a closer look at the 10-inch model:
- The first layer is 3 inches of gel-infused memory foam. This material optimizes cooling on the surface and should provide pressure relief for tired muscles and joints. This layer has an open-cell structure that enhances its breathability, allowing the air to pass through easily to keep the bed from overheating.
- The second layer is a 7-inch base made out of high-density polyfoam. This is the mattress’ foundation and should help foster better body alignment. This layer is firmer, and you can feel that when you press deep into the mattress.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Lexmod ground ships the Modway Aveline to your home compressed inside a box. Once it’s unrolled onto the bed frame of your choice, including an adjustable base if desired, the bed should be ready to go in up to 36 hours.
If you notice any off-gassing, this is likely due to memory foam and bed-in-a-box packaging. Foams tend to develop this smell when packaged this way, but the odor should not be harmful.
Certifications
- Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Our Verdict
This Modway Aveline Mattress demonstrates the brand’s commitment to keeping up with the modern mattress industry by streamlining its process and shipping beds to your home for no additional cost.
After reviewing these foams, we think they should wash away pressure and leave sleepers resting in a relaxing, deep hug. If you’re looking for a classic memory foam feel without breaking the bank, this could be it.
Although we wouldn’t recommend it for heavy sleepers or people who want a bouncy bed, we think it’s a great match for those seeking a traditional memory foam bed. Overall, the Aveline earned a 3.5 out of 5.
