Chances are, you’ve heard of popular bed-in-a-box brands DreamCloud and WinkBeds. Known for producing some of the best hybrid mattresses on the market, these brands pride themselves on offering sleepers a best-of-both-worlds mattress experience.

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

The DreamCloud Premier sits at a 5.5 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale, which should feel like medium-firm to most shoppers. The mattress features a mix of soft foam, memory foam, and coils.

For the purposes of this comparison, we’ll be focusing on the WinkBed’s Luxury Firm model which we ranked a 6.5 out of 10. This classifies the WinkBed as slightly firmer than medium-firm, making it more sturdy-feeling than the DreamCloud Premier. The company’s Soft option comes in at a 4.5 out of 10, Firm at a 7.5 out of 10, and Plus at an 8 out of 10 on our firmness scale. The zoned support from the coils should allow for proper spinal alignment and even weight dispersion.

Support

The WinkBed mattress offers variable support, depending on the particular model you choose. However, all four models have the same construction, meaning no matter which firmness level you choose, you’ll reap the benefits of the supportive individually-wrapped coil base.

The DreamCloud Premier is similar in that the mattress relies on its coils for the most support, although some of its stability comes from the high-density foam base layer as well. This is a softer mattress than the WinkBed, so it may not offer the best support for sleepers who weigh over 200 pounds since these folks should sink into the mattress more.

Feel

The DreamCloud should feel plush and inviting as the luxurious cover was designed to provide a soft, cushioning feel. The foams inside this mattress should also respond quickly for easy repositioning, while the coils underneath offer enough pushback so that you don’t feel trapped inside the mattress.

The WinkBed’s cover should feel soft and cool-to-the-touch, while the Euro top allows you to sink just enough for pressure relief. However, because the WinkBed is firmer than the Premier, you’ll get more of a sensation of sleeping ‘on’ the mattress rather than ‘in’ it.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

Sleepers should experience a gentle cradle from WinkBed but a deeper sink with the DreamCloud Premier mattress. The DreamCloud Premier should offer a moderate level of bounce. Naturally, heavier people should sink even deeper, regardless of the bed they choose.

The WinkBed should provide a minimal bounce in the foam comfort layers with a more moderate bounce once the coils become activated.
The high level of bounce provided by both mattresses makes each bed a good choice for combination sleepers. This level of responsiveness also helps people with mobility issues to get in and out of bed without feeling stuck.

Comparing Motion Transfer

Most people do not consider motion isolation to be a top priority, though some co-sleepers may want a bed that limits motion transfer if they bunk with a restless partner. Both of these mattresses contain several foam comfort layers which help isolate motion.

While you may think the WinkBed and DreamCloud Premier’s coil base may counteract the motion-isolating benefits of the foam, the coils in these beds are actually individually-wrapped, which helps to reduce motion transfer. This way, the movement on one side of the bed shouldn’t be as intense on the other side. Both mattresses rank high in this category, making each bed a good choice for couples.

Comparing Cooling

Both the WinkBed and DreamCloud Premier are hybrids, and with that, they are naturally more cooling than all-foam mattresses. The WinkBed mattress has a Tencel™ cover wrapped around two inches of gel-infused memory foam. This compiles the bed’s Euro top and is designed to cool the mattress surface by pulling your body heat away towards the coils.

The DreamCloud Premier mattress also has gel infusions but they’re located further down, so it’s not as close to the surface. For this reason, the surface may run a bit warmer than the WinkBed’s cool-to-the-touch cover, although it should still work well for most hot sleepers.

Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)

WinkBed Construction

A Tencel™ cover starts off the WinkBed and feels cool and silky to the touch. Also, keep in mind that the WinkBed mattress comes in four comfort options. The Luxury Firm stands at 13.5 inches total, though there may be some height variation among the different firmness choices. We’ll break down the Luxury Firm’s construction below, as that model should accommodate the widest variety of sleep positions and comfort preferences.

• The top layer is a Euro top that includes 2 inches of Hypersoft gel foam. These materials should feel cool and plush and allow pressure-relieving cradling.
• The innerspring layer features 8-inch pocketed coils. The coils are zoned with five comfort areas that should support the heavier areas of the body, like the shoulders and hips, and relieve pressure in lighter areas, like the head and feet.
• A perimeter of EXTRA-EDGE™ SUPPORT Coils provides extra support and stability for the sides of the WinkBed mattress.
• The base layer is an inch of support foam that should provide a stable base for the mattress.

DreamCloud Premier Construction

The top of this bed features a Euro top made from a cashmere blend fabric and plush memory foam. The mattress is 14 inches tall in total, with six layers total, including the initial Euro top which is made up of two layers.

• Below the initial cashmere cover is an inch of standard memory foam foam that should cradle your body in comfort.
• The middle layer is 2.5 inches of plush memory foam that acts as a cushion for the body and also provides support.
• The coils are 8.5 inches thick and serve as the main support system. In addition to the inner coils, this unit also contains perimeter coils that provide the bed with edge support, allowing you to access the entire surface area.
• Beneath this coil layer lies an inch of high-density foam. This base layer serves as a stability layer that supports the structure of the entire mattress.

Comparing Company Policies & Price

• Warranty – Both companies offer a lifetime warranty with their mattresses.
• Shipping – WinkBeds and DreamCloud ship their mattresses for free within the contiguous US. However, DreamCloud also offers white glove delivery for an additional fee of 149 dollars if you want the convenience of mattress set-up and removal.
• Trial Period – WinkBed gives you 120 nights to test their flagship model, while DreamCloud gives you an entire year to test the Premier mattress.
• Returns – Returns are easy with either mattress, but WinkBeds requires you to pay a shipping fee when returning their mattress. On the other hand, it’s free to return the DreamCloud Premier.
• Price – The DreamCloud is more affordable than the WinkBed, although the Premier in Twin XL is more expensive than the WinkBed in the same size.
