A mattress foundation is a fairly utilitarian piece of furniture. However, when deciding on a base for your mattress, keep in mind that it isn’t as straightforward as slapping a mattress down on a frame and calling it a day. This is especially true if you are thinking about purchasing an adjustable foundation such as the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base.
Adjustable bases can provide many benefits, but given that they typically come with a heftier price tag than their stationary counterparts, there are certain aspects that you will want to consider before adding one to your cart.
I tested out the Purple Ascent and am excited to tell you about my findings. In this review, I’ll provide you with the ins and outs of this foundation’s performance. By presenting what I loved about this mattress and the areas that I thought could be improved, you should be better equipped in your purchasing decision.

Who Is the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base Best for?
Pros: Who Might Like the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base:
- Those who want to be able to use their remote in the dark – The Purple Ascent’s remote is backlit, and this makes it easier to use when your bedroom lights are off.
- Shoppers looking for a more stylish adjustable base – With its wooden legs and other attractive features, this adjustable base looks stylish. Therefore, if you want something that’s also aesthetically pleasing, I think this could be a good match.
- People who snore or sleep with a snorer – Snoring can disturb your sleep and the sleep of your partner. Fortunately, the Ascent has a preset anti-snore button that could help alleviate this issue.
Cons: Who Might Not Like the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base:
- People who want an adjustable base with massage settings – If a nightly massage is driving your adjustable bed shopping, you will want to look elsewhere because the Purple adjustable base does not offer this feature.
- Those who want more presets – The Ascent doesn’t have as many preset functions as other similar adjustable bases. If you would like to “set it and forget it,” this may not be the best bet for you.
- Shoppers who want to try out their adjustable base first – You will want to be certain that this is the adjustable base for you because Purple offers no trial period for this product. Given the substantial price tag, this could be problematic if you’re not completely sure about your choice.

What is the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base made of?
Materials
The aesthetically pleasing Purple Ascent Adjustable Base has a steel frame and natural-finish wooden legs. The base’s platform is covered in a sleek, slate-grey fabric.
Height
This adjustable base has 9-inch wooden legs and is just over 12 inches tall in total. Although the wooden legs are a stylish addition, they cannot be adjusted like those on many other adjustable beds.
Sleeping on the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base
If you are interested in an adjustable base, it is probably a safe assumption that you are also interested in the special features that they offer. Therefore, when testing one of these foundations, I like to pay special attention to not only the features but how well they perform when sleeping on it.
I lean toward using an all-foam mattress for adjustable bases, but some hybrids can also be a good choice. However, according to Purple, this particular adjustable base should only be used with the company’s mattresses. Please take note of this before purchasing this foundation.
There are several preset buttons that make it easier to get into different positions, but I found that there wasn’t much difference between the anti-snore setting and the sitting position. Both settings keep your head at a pretty inclined angle. However, you can easily customize the sitting setting using the manual buttons.
Additionally, I found comfort and pressure relief when using the zero-gravity setting.

Support
4/5
Using a combination of steel and wood, the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base can support up to 750 pounds. This weight capacity includes the weight of the mattress as well as the weight of any people or pets that sleep on it.
Durability
4/5
This adjustable base seems substantial, and I felt that is heftier and better in quality than a lot of the other adjustable bases I have tested out. I felt that the steel frame was sturdy and that the wooden legs and upholstered platform combined to provide an adjustable base that will be in good working condition for some time.
Assembly
4/5
The assembly of the Purple Ascent was pretty standard. We didn’t find it burdensome, and it was easy to complete the setup in less than 15 minutes. However, please note that this foundation weighs 120 pounds. This means that you will probably want to grab a friend to help you move it.
Noise
2/5
Considering that adjustable bases typically have motors, it is a safe assumption that there will be some noise associated with them. I heard a soft electronic “buzzing” noise when the Purple Ascent shifted into various settings. There were no noticeable sounds when moving around or getting in and out of bed, though.
Ease of Use
2/5
One of my favorite aspects about the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is the straightforward remote. This remote is neatly labeled and doesn’t have a confusing or cumbersome amount of buttons. Some of the buttons that I think you would use a lot include zero gravity, anti-snore, and flat lay. Additionally, the remote is backlit, which makes it easier to read the buttons in the dark.
Shipping
4/5
Purple will ship the Ascent for free throughout the contiguous U.S.
Sleep Trial & Warranty
2/5
The fact that this base doesn’t come with a sleep trial, return, or exchange option was one of my biggest complaints about the fairly expensive Ascent. However, you will get a 10-year limited warranty when you buy this adjustable base.
Purple Ascent Adjustable Base Frequently Asked Questions
Can I attach a headboard to the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base?
Yes, you can attach a headboard to the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base. To do so, you will need to purchase headboard brackets. Brackets are not included with your adjustable base purchase, but you can buy them separately by contacting Purple’s customer support. You may also be able to purchase useable brackets at a hardware store.
Does the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base vibrate?
No, the Purple Ascent does not have a vibrate feature. If you want an adjustable base with vibrating or massage features, you may want to look for another product.
Is the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base worth it?
The sturdy Purple Ascent Adjustable Base uses steel and wood, and it seems to be solidly constructed with an easy-to-use remote control. My Final Thoughts on the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base
The Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is a stylish and durable adjustable base that comes with an easy-to-use, backlit remote. The presets on the remote include anti-snore, zero gravity, and sitting. There are USB ports on both sides of the bed, which makes it more convenient for phone charging.
While I like this adjustable base more than others I have tested, for the hefty price tag, I’d like to see this bed include more features. Also, given that there is no sleep trial or refunds, there isn’t much room to change your mind, even if you don’t like your expensive adjustable bed. Overall, the Ascent earned a 3.6 out of 5 score.
