Our Layla vs. Casper mattress comparison for 2024 compares the dual-sided Layla against the Casper brand, who made a huge dent in the online bed industry after emerging onto the scene in 2014.
Layla’s flagship memory foam bed offers copper-infused foams, a Thermo Gel cooling cover, and two firmness options in one (one on each side). The Casper Original is the brand’s flagship bed and arguably their most popular option. This mattress offers breathable foam, zoned support, and a medium firmness, making it a versatile option.
It’s a foam-on-foam battle, so keep reading to see what we found in our testing and which of these mattresses could be the one for you.

100 nightsWho I’d Recommend the Layla For
- Lightweight side sleepers – Both the Casper and the Layla should work for most light to average-weight back and stomach sleepers, but we found the Casper too firm for lighter side sleepers. Shoppers in this category will likely feel more comfortable on the Soft side of the Layla, where they should feel the right amount of pressure relief and support in this position.
- Hot sleepers – If you love all-foam beds but tend to sleep hot, you may have hit the jackpot with the Layla. This bed features a cooling cover, copper-infused foam that draws heat from the body, and breathable convoluted foam. While this feels a little cooler than the Casper, exceptionally hot sleepers may be more comfortable on a hybrid mattress, as these tend to sleep even cooler than all-foam options.
- People who want something easier to clean – Do you love a coffee in bed but are prone to spills? It may be wise to invest in a mattress that has a removable, washable cover, like the Layla. The cover can be popped in the machine on a cold, gentle cycle. Dry on a delicate cycle or hang to dry. However, be aware that damage that occurs as a result of machine washing is not covered under the lifetime warranty.
Who I’d Recommend the Casper For
- Couples – We ranked the Casper mattress at 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which is medium. This is a little more versatile than the Layla for light to average-weight couples with widely different sleeping preferences who need to compromise.
- Combination sleepers – Some foam beds are harder to move around on, but the responsive surface on the Casper makes repositioning a breeze, which could be perfect for combination sleepers.
- Consumers who want white glove delivery – Both beds arrive compressed in a box and are delivered to your door, so you’ll need to transfer them to your bedroom and unbox them yourself. If you require assistance, Casper offers white glove delivery across the contiguous U.S. for an additional fee, which includes the setup of your new mattress. If your old mattress was purchased from Casper, you can also pay to have this removed.
Comparing Layla vs. Casper: Top Similarities
- Motion isolation – Our testers found both beds to have excellent motion isolation, which is typical of many all-foam products. This is great news for light sleepers with restless partners as they shouldn’t be affected by movement happening on the other side of the bed.
- Edge support – Like most all-foam mattresses, edge support isn’t the strongest on either of these beds. While most people should feel secure sleeping closer to the perimeter, you may feel some compression when sitting on the edge. This is something to keep in mind for those with mobility issues who need sturdier edges to assist with getting in and out of bed.
- Not suitable for most heavyweight sleepers – The support offered by these mattresses should suit most light to average-weight sleepers but those in heavier weight categories would likely be better suited to a firm mattress or one designed for plus-size sleepers.
Comparing Layla vs. Casper: Key Differences
- Price – The Layla comes at a lower price point compared to the Casper, which may appeal to shoppers looking to spend a little less. With its lifetime warranty and dual-firmness, we think it’s a great value mattress.
- Warranty – The Casper comes with a 10-year limited warranty, whereas the Layla has a much longer lifetime warranty.
- Comfort levels – With its dual-sided design offering both a Soft and a Firm surface to sleep on, the Layla may well be a good pick for those who can’t decide which comfort level they require. Conversely, the Casper has a single firmness level, though it is a versatile medium feel.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Firmness
Our firmness scale ranges from 1-10, with 1 being soft as a marshmallow. The Layla is flippable, featuring two comfort levels. Our team ranked the Soft side as 4 to 5 out of 10, making it medium-soft, and the Firm side as 5 to 6 out of 10, making it medium. The Casper came in at a 6 out of 10, which is also medium. Medium is the most versatile firmness score, suiting a wider range of sleepers.
Support
The Firm side of the Layla may work for light to average-weight stomach or back sleepers, while the Soft side could suit side sleepers. “The Layla is infused with copper which makes the foam in the mattress even more responsive,” noted our mattress tester, Stuart. “It really feels like the mattress is adapting to your body.”
Mark – who weighs around 200 pounds and tested the Casper – was impressed by the Casper’s support, which may suit most light to average-weight sleepers: “It balances that level of support with the pressure relief.”
Feel
Layla’s Soft side, in particular, offers fantastic pressure relief, which could be ideal for light to average-weight side sleepers with joint pain. Stuart reported that he felt more ‘on’ the mattress on the Firm side and ‘in’ the mattress on the Soft side.
The feel of the Casper sits somewhere in between both sides of the Layla. This could be a great option for light to average-weight couples with different sleep preferences, offering a more universally appealing feel.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

100 nightsWe experienced a deep memory foam hug on Layla’s Soft side, while the Firm side offered less sinkage, feeling more like a gentle cradle. “Lying on the Casper, you feel a sense of pressure relief and a gentle memory foam hug,” reported mattress tester, Emma.
Neither bed offers much bounce, though the responsive top layer on the Casper does make it slightly buoyant. “It’s worth noting that – particularly on the Soft side, it took a little more effort to move around and change positions as I slept,” reported Stuart of the Layla. As such, we think combination sleepers might prefer the Casper as it may be easier to change positions on.
Comparing Motion Transfer
When it comes to motion isolation, foam beds may be the way to go.
Both of these models do a top-notch job of trapping movements to one side. However, the Layla may perform just a hair (and we mean a hair) better as it uses memory material throughout the bulk of its construction, making it even less buoyant. Memory foam is well known for its motion-isolating properties.
Whichever one you choose, the next time someone gets in or out of bed in the middle of the night, you should able to keep on sleeping, unaware they moved.
Comparing Cooling
We found that the Layla slightly outperforms the Casper when it comes to temperature regulation. We didn’t find Layla’s Thermo Gel cover to be cool to the touch, but Stuart was impressed by the copper-infused cooling foam. “The copper in the mattress responds to your body heat to whisk it away from you, keeping you cool and comfy,” he shared. The Layla also features convoluted foam, which provides additional cooling as it allows for airflow.
The Casper features a perforated AirScape™ foam comfort layer, making it more breathable than regular foam. Most sleepers should remain temperature-neutral on the Casper, but we think those who sleep warmer will likely be more comfortable on the Layla.
Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)
Layla Construction
The 10-inch Layla’s dual-sided design offers two comfort levels – Soft and Firm. The removable cover features a polyester, rayon, viscose, and lycra mix and is coated with a Thermo Gel cooling agent, which draws excess heat away from the body.
- The soft comfort layer is made of a 3-inch thick plush, copper-infused memory foam that’s antimicrobial and cooling. This foam offers pressure relief as well as variable support for deeper compression areas.
- The second layer features 2 inches of Max Airflow support foam that’s egg-crate-shaped to increase airflow. It has three zones, offering pressure relief and support where you need it most.
- The third layer has 4 inches of support foam that also minimizes motion transfer.
- The base layer is 1 inch of the same copper-infused memory foam that features in the Soft comfort layer, although this one has a firmer feel. When flipped, the layers reverse and this makes up the top comfort layer of the Firm side.
Casper Construction
The Casper is an 11-inch mattress with a durable, stretchy, soft knit cover that’s made from recycled polyester, upcycled cotton, rayon, and lycra.
- The comfort layer features cooling premium AirScape™ poly foam, which is designed with thousands of perforations, allowing for airflow. This makes the layer breathable, keeping the surface from overheating at night. It’s also fairly responsive, allowing sleepers to easily reposition.
- The middle layer utilizes the brand’s Zoned Support™ memory foam designed with three ergonomic zones. This allows the mattress to feel softer under the shoulders so that people can sink in a little more while offering extra support under the heavier hips and lower back. This helps to keep the spine in healthy alignment.
- The base layer features a thick layer of dense ProSupport foam that forms the foundation of the bed. This fosters the overall support for both the bed and the sleeper.
Comparing Company Policies & Price
- Warranty – The Layla has a lifetime warranty, and the Casper has a shorter 10-year warranty.
- Shipping – Both products come with free bed-in-a-box shipping across the continental U.S., with additional fees for Alaska and Hawaii. Casper also offers free shipping across most of Canada, with the exception of Yukon, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories, which will incur an extra fee. Layla will deliver to Canada for a fee. Casper also offers white glove delivery at an additional cost.
- Trial Period – The Layla comes with a 120-night trial period, while the Casper has a 100-night trial.
- Returns – You’ll receive a full refund (minus any shipping fees) for both beds if they’re returned within the trial period. However, Casper requires you to have slept on the mattress for at least 30 nights before requesting a return. Casper will come pick up the mattress, while Layla will either collect it or ask you to donate it.
- Price – The Layla is a little cheaper than the Casper, which may make it more suitable for budget shoppers.
