Who I’d Recommend the Zenhaven For

• Those wanting a flippable mattress – Not only is this mattress flippable but each side offers a different comfort level, with a choice between a medium-soft and firm feel. This is great for shoppers who aren’t sure which firmness level to choose.
• People with allergies – Though both beds feature naturally antimicrobial wool, the Zenhaven is also treated with Guardin®, Saatva’s exclusive antimicrobial treatment. This should help ward off bacteria, mold, and mildew. 
• Shoppers seeking durability – Latex is known for its longevity, and the Zenhaven has a whopping four layers of the material. Coupled with a lifetime warranty, this should keep you sleeping soundly for years to come. 

Who I’d Recommend the Avocado Green For

• Couples – The Avocado is incredibly bouncy, yet still offers fantastic motion isolation, which is great news for couples. It also features sturdy edge support, allowing you to spread out across the whole surface area of the bed. 
• Shoppers on a smaller budget – If both beds appeal to you but you’re looking to save some cash, the Avocado may sway your vote with its much lower price point. Despite the smaller cost, it still boasts premium-quality, eco-friendly materials. 
• Hybrid fans – With its steel coil unit, the Avocado offers more of a hybrid feel than the all-foam Zenhaven. This could sway those who love the feel of bouncy foam and coils. 

Comparing Zenhaven vs. Avocado Green: Top Similarities

• Zoned comfort – The Zenhaven features five-zoned latex, while the Avocado has three-zoned coils – both are designed to provide differing levels of support and comfort where you need it most. We found both the Avocado and Zenhaven great for cradling the body and keeping the spine in healthy alignment. 
• Ventilated latex – Aerated latex is used in both the Avocado and Zenhaven, which delivers airflow to keep the beds cool. We’d recommend both beds for hot sleepers. 
• Eco-friendly – Each bed is made with organic and natural materials, negating the need for synthetic foams. Shoppers looking to protect the planet would do well buying either bed. 

Comparing Zenhaven vs. Avocado Green: Key Differences

• Warranty – While the Avocado comes with a generous 25-year limited warranty, the Zenhaven’s much longer lifetime warranty tops that, although it does come at a higher price point. 
• Construction – Both beds feature natural latex, organic cotton, and organic wool, but the Avocado’s support layer consists of an innerspring unit. This may appeal to shoppers who love the extra bounce of steel coils. 
• Delivery – The Zenhaven is delivered full-size and white-glove delivery is included in the price, which includes the setup of your new mattress and removal of your old one. The Avocado comes with free bed-in-a-box doorstep delivery, though it is heavier to lift so a friend may be needed. For an additional fee, you can purchase white-glove delivery for the Avocado. 

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel 

Firmness 

We rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10. A rating of 10 would be the most firm feel possible. 

The Zenhaven is flippable, and we ranked the Luxury Plush side at a 4.5 out of 10, which is a medium-soft feel. This should work for side sleepers and lightweight back sleepers. The Gentle Firm side is a firm 7, which we recommend for most stomach sleepers and average to heavyweight back sleepers. 

The Avocado is a medium-firm 6.5 out of 10. Tester Stuart recommends this bed for average to heavyweight sleepers, or those who prefer a firmer feel. 

Support 

Both products offer zoned comfort that’s designed to cater to the different areas of the body by alternating pressure relief or support where it’s most needed. This should promote good spinal alignment and even weight distribution. The beauty of the Zenhaven is that its flippable design gives you two different support options. 

Sleep Advisor reviewer, Stuart, was impressed with the fantastic edge support offered by the Avocado Green. The Zenhaven has good edge support, though heavier sleepers may find it inadequate on the Luxury Plush side. 

Feel 

We found that the covers of both brands felt somewhat similar, as they each feature cotton and wool. You should experience a temperature-neutral, soft surface on both beds.

Our testers report that the Avocado is incredibly heavy, although it was fairly easy to unwrap and assemble. The Zenhaven comes with complementary in-home setup and handles on the side to assist with flipping the mattress to your preferred side. However, the weight of the mattress may not make this an easy task.  

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

If you’re looking for a gentle cradle, either mattress should be a good option as the Avocado and Zenhaven’s Gentle Firm side should allow minimal sinkage. While we experienced a slightly deeper cradle on Zenhaven’s Luxury Plush side, we wouldn’t recommend either bed for those seeking the deep sinkage you get from memory foam 

Both beds boast fast-responding materials that should fully reform, leaving behind fewer body impressions. Springy latex means that both models offer a high level of bounce. Either mattress should be a great fit for combination sleepers, but those with considerable mobility issues might want to consider Avocado as the coil system should slightly enhance this bounce. 

Comparing Motion Transfer 

Overall, there’s a little motion transfer on the Zenhaven, which means you may be disturbed by a restless partner sleeping on the other side of the bed. Stuart, one of our mattress testers, also advises that the Gentle Firm side of the bed may have more of a ripple effect, so be aware of that if you prefer a firmer bed.

Stuart reports that the Avocado has fantastic motion isolation: “If you take into account that this is a very bouncy mattress, the way it handles motion is quite impressive. This truly makes it a great option for couples, or those who sleep with a pet.” 

Comparing Cooling 

Both beds feature latex, which delivers great pressure relief but doesn’t retain heat, unlike memory foam. Perforated latex is used in both the Zenhaven and Avocado, adding to their cooling abilities, as this allows for more airflow. Stuart advises that the shallower depth of the Zenhaven’s Gentle Firm may be better for hot sleepers as it offers less of a cradle, keeping more of your body’s surface area exposed. 

The beds both feature breathable organic cotton covers with a layer of organic wool, which is known for its moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating abilities. The Avocado’s pocketed springs allow for further air circulation. We’d recommend both beds for hot sleepers. 

Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)

Zenhaven Construction

The cover of this dual-sided 10-inch bed features hypoallergenic, breathable organic cotton that’s protected with Guardin®, Saatva’s exclusive botanical antimicrobial treatment. Handles on the side assist in flipping the mattress. The construction details we’ll share here are for when the Luxury Plush side is on top. 

• Quilted to the cover, you’ll find 1 inch of organic wool. The upside to this material is that it’s moisture-wicking and serves as a natural flame retardant.  
• The second layer contains 1.5 inches of GOLS-certified Talalay latex. This unit features a five-zone design to give you enhanced support for your heavier areas. 
•  The third layer has 3 inches of Talalay latex for pressure relief.
• The fourth layer features 3 inches of Talalay latex that’s firmer than the previous layer – this offers more support when the bed is flipped to the Gentle Firm side.
• The fifth layer holds another 1.5-inch layer of five-zoned Talalay latex.
• The sixth layer is an additional inch of organic wool, making up the top layer of the Gentle Firm side. 

Avocado Green Construction 

This Avocado Green is a hybrid standing 11 inches high. This mattress has an organic cotton cover, which should give you breathability right at the surface of the bed. This is complemented by handles on each side of the mattress to help you transport the mattress more easily.

• Beneath the cover is a layer of organic wool layer that not only provides a natural flame retardant but also helps wick away moisture. 
• The comfort layer features a 2-inch thick unit of Dunlop latex foam. The great news here is that latex naturally sleeps cooler, which should help hot sleepers stay comfortable.
• The support layer consists of individually wrapped 8-inch steel coils that have been upcycled to reduce waste. This layer features three zones to provide support or pressure relief as needed in the shoulder, hip, and knee areas.
• The base layer consists of 1-inch thick Dunlop latex that has a higher density than the previous latex layer, creating a stable foundation.
• The perimeter contains reinforced coils to promote a consistent feel across the entire bed. 

Comparing Company Policies & Price

Warranty – You’ll get a lifetime warranty with the Zenhaven and a 25-year limited warranty with the Avocado. 

Shipping – The Zenhaven is delivered full-size with free-white glove delivery within the contiguous U.S. Freight forwarding can be arranged for customers in Alaska and Hawaii. The Avocado is delivered compressed in a box, with free delivery to the contiguous U.S. and a surcharge for addresses in Alaska and Hawaii. White glove delivery is available for an extra fee, which starts at 249 dollars and depends on the weight of the mattress, although this service is not available in Alaska or Hawaii. 

Trial Period –  There’s a 365-night trial period with both beds. 

Returns –  Both mattresses can be returned during their trial periods for a full refund, less a 99-dollar processing fee, which includes mattress collection. You can return the Zenhaven at any time during the trial, but you must have had the Avocado for at least 30 days before initiating a return. 

Price – The Avocado will be the less expensive option of these two mattresses.
