Who We Recommend the Awara Natural Hybrid For:

  • People looking for bounceThe combination of latex and coils sets sleepers up for a bouncy experience. This is great for combination sleepers looking for facilitated repositioning.

  • Eco-friendly shoppersThis product may be more expensive than other brands featuring different materials out there, but it’s delivering a lot of value. These materials’ certifications show the company’s determination to go greener, making it a good option for eco-friendly shoppers.

  • Hot sleepersThe Awara offers plenty of cooling. First, the cotton and organic wool cover is designed to wick away moisture and promote airflow. Second, Awara uses latex, which doesn’t hold in heat the way memory foam does. Third, the coils help foster additional airflow throughout the center of the bed.

Who We Don’t Recommend The Awara Natural Hybrid For:

  • Budget shoppersAwara is a brand with a more premium price tag. Keeping that in mind, this high-end hybrid is sold for competitively less than what you are likely to find in a mattress retail store, especially with this much premium latex. Nonetheless, budget shoppers may prefer a cheaper mattress.

  • Restless sleepersThe high bounce of latex and coils is great for some, but those seeking exceptional motion isolation may want to search for a memory foam bed instead.

First Impressions: Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 6/10

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.

The Awara Natural Hybrid mattress is rated 6 on our firmness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. Being within the middle of the scale, the Awara is versatile and comfortable for a range of sleepers. Back and side sleepers should like this firmness the most, but even some stomach sleepers (those weighing less than 150 pounds) may find it supportive enough. When you first lie on it, you should feel the upper layers hugging the body, but there is still the firmness of the coil unit holding your spine in alignment.

How Does It Feel?

When you first settle into bed, you’ll be met with the plush pillow top that has a soft and luxurious feel thanks to the inclusion of organic cotton and breathable New Zealand wool. The 2 inches of cooling Dunlop latex should cradle your curves nicely, while the individually pocketed coils provide pushback support for your spine.

You can immediately feel the plush top layers cradling the body without taking away from the support level of the coil unit underneath.

What We Like About the Awara Natural Hybrid

  • Eco-friendly materials – This Awara hybrid contains organic cotton, Dunlop latex, and New Zealand wool, so you’re getting a bed with both organic and natural materials. Apart from being better for the environment, these materials are also better for sleepers, especially those with allergies.

  • Versatile firmness – Being close to the middle of our firmness scale, the Awara Natural Hybrid mattress is a versatile model that should work well for all sleeping positions, depending on the sleeper’s body weight.

  • Pressure Relief – Dunlop latex is one of the best materials for pressure relief as it cradles the body and prevents the pressure from building up in the shoulders, hips, and knees.

Our Awara Natural Hybrid Complaints

  • Not the best for motion isolation – This mattress is bouncy, which makes it good for combination sleepers and people with mobility issues. However, the bounce takes away from motion isolation, which could be a problem for restless sleepers and those sharing a bed.

  • No all-foam version – Awara makes hybrid mattresses, so those looking for an all-foam model may need to look at another brand.

Testing the Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress: How it Performed

We tested the Awara Natural Hybrid mattress to better evaluate what sleeping positions it’s good for. We tested it for side, back, and stomach sleeping, but we also included tests for motion isolation, edge support, and other preference-based features important to many people. This way, we can provide a more accurate analysis of who we’d recommend this bed to.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

Awara doesn’t have an official weight limit for this mattress. However, since this mattress isn’t specifically designed for heavyweight sleepers, we would recommend that individual sleepers above 300 pounds go with a different bed designed for their frame. This will help ensure they get the support they need.

WeightSide SleepersBack SleepersStomach Sleepers
Lightweight Sleepers (-130 lbs)★☆☆★★☆★★★
Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 lbs)★★★★★★★★☆
Heavyweight Sleepers (+230 lbs)★★☆★★☆★★☆

Side Sleepers

  • Lightweight SleepersLightweight side sleepers may find this Awara mattress too firm because they may not be able to activate the 2-inch layer of Dunlop latex. Although latex is bouncy and should allow a bit of cradling, side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds might find pressure building up in the shoulder and hip areas.
  • Average-Weight SleepersAverage-weight side sleepers, especially those weighing closer to 200 pounds, should like how the Natural Hybrid feels on the shoulders and hips. Their weight should be enough to sink into the latex layer enough to prevent pressure build-up.
  • Heavyweight SleepersSide sleepers weighing over 230 pounds should benefit from this Awara mattress, especially if they prefer softer beds. However, significantly heavier people may need a firmer mattress to keep the spine aligned.

Back Sleepers

  • Lightweight SleepersLightweight back sleepers should find sufficient support and pressure relief in the lumbar area. However, people weighing significantly under 130 pounds may need a softer bed to prevent pressure from building up in the lower back.
  • Average-Weight SleepersThe Awara Natural Hybrid is a good choice for average-weight back sleepers as it offers a balance of pressure relief and support needed in this position. They sink into the Dunlop latex layer just enough to avoid pressure build-up.
  • Heavyweight SleepersHeavyweight back sleepers should like this Awara hybrid as the coils offer sufficient support in the lumbar area. However, significantly heavier people might need a firmer mattress to prevent the hips from sinking in.

Stomach Sleepers

  • Lightweight SleepersStomach sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds should benefit from Awara’s Dunlop latex layer that cradles the body to prevent pressure from building up in the hip area.
  • Average-Weight SleepersAverage-weight stomach sleepers will sink deeper than lightweight sleepers. However, the medium firmness of this layer and the coils underneath still do a good job of holding the body in alignment when sleeping on your stomach.
  • Heavyweight SleepersHeavyweight sleepers should still find this bed comfortable and supportive enough in this position. However, those weighing significantly over 230 pounds might prefer a firmer bed to prevent the midsection from sinking in.

Pressure Relief & Pain

Awara’s approach to pressure relief starts with the plush Euro top that envelops your body for immediate cradling comfort. Next, Dunlop latex foam contours to your body’s curves, allowing heavier areas to sink deeper while keeping the rest of your body adequately supported.

The Awara Natural Hybrid is rated at a 6 on our firmness scale of 1-10. Therefore, this mattress has a true medium feel that should deliver vital pressure relief while keeping your body lifted for good alignment.

Back Pain – People with back pain should find sufficient support in the Awara’s medium firmness. The bed does a good job of holding your body in alignment, especially in back and stomach sleeping positions that are most prone to back pain.

Hip Pain – Hip pain usually occurs when sleeping on your side, so you need a mattress that cushions the hip area in this position. The Awara’s gentle New Zealand wool cover and the Dunlop latex underneath should offer enough cushioning, depending on the sleeper’s weight.

Shoulder Pain – People with shoulder pain may find it increasing when they sleep on their side. For this reason, they could benefit from the Awara’s upper layers that cradle sensitive points to prevent pain and pressure from building up. However, significantly lightweight sleepers may prefer something softer against their shoulders.

Support

While the Dunlop latex foam is thick and resilient enough to keep the spine aligned, the coils act as the real support center, delivering quality stability that simultaneously sports bounce. These coils are individually wrapped, so they compress independently to offer head-to-toe support in just the right spots.

The end result is a balance of support for the spine coupled with relief for the shoulders and hips. Plus, the bed’s mid-range firmness should provide sufficient support for most sleepers. The only exception may be sleepers above 230 pounds and some stomach sleepers who may prefer something firmer.

Motion Transfer

Moton isolation is important for couples, especially if the partners have different sleeping habits. Memory foam is usually the best choice for motion isolation as it absorbs movement to prevent it from transferring from one side of the bed to the other. Latex is bouncier, which is why this Awara doesn’t have the best motion isolation. Partners with similar sleeping habits should find the Natural Hybrid mattress comfortable enough, but those tossing and turning may prefer something with memory foam.

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

Hybrid mattresses are cooler by nature because the coils allow the air to flow through the entire construction. This prevents the bed from overheating, which is crucial for those who sleep hot. In addition, the Awara Natural Hybrid has breathable Dunlop latex, New Zealand wool, and organic cotton that further help with cooling and breathability.

Performance for Couples

Couples should appreciate the Awara’s edge support that prevents the perimeter from collapsing when you sleep and sit in this area. This allows you to use the entire surface of the bed without worrying you could slip off of the edges. On top of that, the mattress has versatile firmness that should fit many sleepers. However, some couples may prefer a bed with better motion isolation.

Preference-based Features

Bed in a Box

The Awara arrives at your doorstep via contactless delivery, rolled and compressed in weatherproof packaging. Set-up should be quick and easy, thanks to the four built-in handles.

Cooling

Breathable cotton and moisture-wicking New Zealand wool allow trapped heat to escape, and temperature-neutral latex prevents excess heat from building throughout the night. Individually pocketed coils also provide ample airflow for a bed that should keep sweats at bay.

Exceptional Edge Support

A bed with strong edges keeps the sleeper level and comfortable when sleeping here, while a bed without edge support could make you feel like you might stumble onto the floor. To ensure a secure sleeping space, Awara has reinforced edges.

High Bounce

The combination of latex and springs gives this bed a high level of bounce that should come in handy for sexually active couples and individuals with limited mobility.

Eco-Conscious Materials

From the cover to the base, Awara is one of the most eco-friendly beds you’ll find on the market. The bed features natural and organic materials, water-based adhesives, silica flame retardant, and sports multiple environmentally-friendly certifications.

Adjustable Base Compatible

This bed is suitable for any base with a solid foundation, including box springs, slated platforms, or adjustable bases.

Construction: What’s Inside the Awara?

The surface is furnished with breathable, natural cotton and New Zealand wool that not only fosters surface comfort but should also help wick away moisture and heat. This luxurious cover surrounds the 10 inches of bedding beneath.

The stitching has a decorative pattern that makes this bed look even more luxurious. However, you won’t be able to feel this under your sheets, so don’t worry about it being uncomfortable. In addition, the white makes the purple logo and accents stand out even more, adding to the overall attractive design.

  • The comfort layer is topped off with 2 inches of Rainforest Alliance-certified all-natural Dunlop latex. This soft yet durable material provides comfort to the sleeper’s body by conforming to their curves and fostering surface bounce to facilitate repositioning.
  • The support layer uses 8 inches of premium coils. This delivers a deeper bounce and sustains support and alignment. The individually wrapped coils target specific areas of the body by compressing at varying amounts to foster a neutral sleeping position that distributes weight evenly over the surface. In addition, the wrapping around the coils helps foster motion isolation.
  • Edge reinforcement is provided by a row of stronger perimeter coils that are designed to support increased weight along the sides.
  • The base cover is a luxe cotton/polyester material with four built-in handles for easy moving.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

The Awara ships to your home rolled and compressed into a box, so it may need up to 24 hours to take shape before you lie on it. Setting it up should be easy as the base cover has four handles for moving the mattress. You can place it on your bed foundation as soon as you unpack it, allowing it to decompress right on the foundation.

Although Awara usually offers White Glove Delivery, the service is currently unavailable. For this reason, make sure to have a friend or family member help you move the mattress from your doorstep to the bedroom.

The Awara Natural Hybrid mattress doesn’t feature materials commonly known for off-gassing. However, the bed might still have that new-mattress odor, so you may want to let it vent for a few hours if you’re sensitive to smells.

Certifications

  • Eco-Friendly Certifications – This product was certified by OEKO-TEX®, which evaluates textiles at all processing levels for acceptable levels of hazardous chemicals and flame retardants. It has a GREENGUARD Gold certification that reflects the product’s ability to meet some of the world’s most rigorous emissions standards. The mattress is also certified by Rainforest Alliance, Repreve, Wools of New Zealand, and Forest Stewardship Council.

Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping

  • Shipping – The brand offers free shipping and returns within the contiguous United States, with available shipping to Hawaii and Alaska for an additional fee.
  • White-Glove Delivery – White-Glove Delivery is currently unavailable.
  • Trial – Customers can enjoy a 365-night trial that permits them to try out this bed and return within that time.
  • Warranty – This product is covered by an industry-rare forever warranty.
  • Return Policy – Returns are free should you want to return your mattress within the 365-night trial. However, the company suggests you keep the bed for at least 30 nights, which is the recommended break-in period.

Overall Summary

The Awara is a latex hybrid that promises a luxurious night’s sleep, and it does not disappoint.

Side Sleepers

4/5

Side sleepers should be able to feel the latex reducing pressure in their shoulders and hips. This model is designed to quickly conform to their more curvy areas and transition them into the support beneath. Being slightly firmer means this should suit heavier side sleepers, but lighter individuals may find it too firm for adequate relief.

Back Sleepers

4/5

The materials in this hybrid mattress were designed to conform to shoulders and hips by filling in the gap that rests between them when sleeping on the back. Back sleepers should also benefit from the support of the coil system beneath the latex, depending on how much they weigh.

Stomach Sleepers

4/5

Stomach sleepers often have a harder time finding a mattress that fits their needs. Many mattresses cause their hips to sink down into bed from a lack of support. These individuals should find the support they need in the Awara, though heavier stomach sleepers may enjoy a firmer option.

Combination Sleepers

5/5

Sleepers should expect a good amount of bounce to spring out of this bed. This feature makes repositioning a cinch for combination sleepers. With the medium-like firmness the Awara fosters, it’s a good option for just about any sleeping position.

Couples

4/5

Couples rate this bed highly, thanks to edge support, responsiveness, and bounce. Couples can take advantage of using the entire surface of the bed for late-night activities due to the high level of bounce. However, some may prefer more motion isolation.

Heavy Sleepers

4/5

Heavier folks should feel adequately supported, thanks to the durable and responsive materials. The medium-firmness is a good fit for heavier side and back sleepers, allowing them to sink in for pressure relief but being met with pushback support for the spine. However, significantly heavier stomach sleepers may benefit from a firmer mattress.

Lightweight Sleepers

4/5

Awara is on the firmer side, which may not be ideal for most lighter sleepers, especially those who sleep on their side. While it may work for some lighter back and stomach sleepers, those looking for something softer may want to consider a mattress designed with lighter folks in mind.

Average-Weight Sleepers

5/5

Average-weight sleepers should get the best balance of pressure relief and support from the Dunlop latex and 8-inch coils underneath. However, people who weigh closer to 230 pounds and like sleeping on their stomach may like an even firmer mattress.

Overall Value

4/5

Premium mattresses can cost thousands more in your local retail store, but Awara is able to chop those prices down as it sells directly to consumers. So, if you’re looking to fall asleep in luxury, you may not have to look any further than the eco-friendly sleep option, Awara.

Our Verdict

The Awara Natural Hybrid mattress is an excellent option for many people. The bed features premium materials but doesn’t cost nearly as much as similar mattresses on the market. Thanks to its medium firmness, the Natural Hybrid is comfortable for side and back sleepers, including some lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers.

In addition, this bed has a layer of latex, which gives it a bounce and makes it a good choice for people with allergies. Its many eco-friendly certifications add value and make it an attractive bed for eco-conscious shoppers.
