The Euro pillow top is 3 inches thick and packed with features to amplify cooling, pressure relief, and lumbar support, all beneath a hypoallergenic and antimicrobial organic cotton cover. Underneath the center of the pillow top is a section of CertiPUR-US® high-density foam that creates an essential support area for the lower back.

This section is bolstered by a second, thicker coil base and the Lumbar Zone® Active Spinal Wire, which is meant to ensure proper spinal alignment. Finally, a perimeter of high-density foam rails keeps the edges of this bed sturdy.
My Take: Support’s the name of the game here, because under the Euro pillow top is not one, but two coil layers to keep you feeling lifted. As a bonus, this dual-coil model lends extra structure and long-term durability to the bed.
What I Liked
- Lots of lumbar support – Lower back support is incredibly important for those who sleep on their back and want to avoid back pain. The Saatva Classic excels at lower back support thanks to its dual coil units and lumbar-specific features.
- White glove delivery – Saatva offers something called white glove delivery, which means that they bring the mattress to you and handle the set-up. If you’ve ever had to lift a mattress up a flight of stairs, you know this is a huge perk.
Potential Drawbacks
- Return fees – Returns at Saatva do cost $99, even if you’re within the return window. It’s something to keep in mind if your teen wants to test out a bed before deciding to keep it.
- Motion isolation – During testing, I noticed that you can definitely feel big movements across the bed. This might not be a problem if your teen sleeps alone, but it may be something to consider if they’re a light sleeper who snuggles with a pet.

Why the DreamCloud Earned Best Mattress for Teenage Combination Sleepers
The DreamCloud is one of my all-time favorite mattresses, and though I’m no longer in my teens, I think most teenagers should also enjoy it. It covers all the bases that a teenage combination sleeper could want, from luxurious comfort layers to a responsive coil base. Its plush first layer and soft cover make for a welcoming surface, but the different types of foams beneath add enough versatility to suit different sleeping positions.
What’s the DreamCloud Made Of?
At 14 inches thick, the DreamCloud boasts seven different layers if you count its top and bottom covers.
The top cover is made with luxurious and comfortable cashmere. Under the cover are three distinct layers of CertiPUR-US® certified foam: the 1.5-inch cushioning plush foam layer, the 1-inch gel-infused and pressure-relieving memory foam layer, and the 2-inch dynamic foam layer that helps with spinal alignment.
The innerspring layer is made up of 8.5-inch steel coils that support the expanse of the mattress, including a reinforced perimeter. A sturdy foundation of foam acts as the base. Finally, the bottom cover with tufted edges and built-in handles ensures minimal slippage and easy movement.
My Take: The materials all do a pretty good job of absorbing the feeling of motion and responding quickly to movement on the top of the bed. Combo sleepers, you’re all set with this mattress.
What I Liked
- Affordable option – The DreamCloud won’t break the bank, even with all the features it offers. When sales are running, it often retails for under $1,000 for a queen, which is impressive for a high-quality hybrid.
- Supportive in all positions – I tried laying on my side, stomach, and back during testing, and I still found support regardless of how I positioned myself.
Potential Drawbacks
- Weaker edges – If you’re someone who tends to sleep or sit on the edges of your mattress, the DreamCloud may not be the best fit. Even though the coils are thicker around the sides of the bed, they don’t stand up super well to lots of pressure.
- Not the best contouring – This bed doesn’t have the traditional “hugging” memory-foam feel. Look elsewhere if you’re wanting to be cradled by a cushier bed.

What We Liked
- Different cooling strategies – From the cover’s heat-dissipating materials to a coil unit that encourages air circulation, this bed tackles cooling from multiple angles. With the “Extra-Chill” upgrade, you can outfit the memory foam layer with the same Phase Change Material found in the cover, resulting in more all-around temperature regulation.
- It’s relatively budget-friendly – The Cocoon Chill Hybrid costs markedly less than many other beds in this list—during promotions, you may be able to snag a queen for less than $1,000.

What’s the Puffy Lux Hybrid Made Of?
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has six layers, including two covers, and is 12 inches thick. The cloud-patterned top cover is stain-resistant and hypoallergenic.
The first three layers of the bed are foam. The first is a gel-infused Cooling Cloud™ Foam, which, as the name suggests, regulates temperature and cradles joints. Then comes a layer of Plush Dual Cloud Foam, only found in the Puffy Lux Hybrid, that gives the bed its contouring abilities. The third layer of Climate Comfort™ Foam seeks to keep air flowing through it for added breathability.
The core of the mattress is made up of both high-density foam and individually wrapped coils, a combination that ensures the mattress stays stable while isolating motion. Finally, the Grip Base Cover on the bottom of the mattress keeps it from sliding.
My Take: Puffy dubs the Lux Hybrid a “medium-plush” bed, but after testing this, I’d say it’s straight-up soft, right around a 5/10. Not as soft as the Puffy Royal, but still pretty dang soft.
What I Liked
- Responsive but soft – Despite the Puffy Lux Hybrid’s plush surface, I found nearly instant bounce-back from the foam. This is surprising for such a soft foam-topped bed.
- Feels cool – The Puffy Lux Hybrid has a number of cooling features within its construction, including a cooling cover and temperature-regulating foams. It felt cool to the touch in our testing studio.
Potential Drawbacks
- Not the best for backs – I would’ve liked a bit more lift in the center of this bed to help keep my back supported and spine aligned.
- Not great for heavier sleepers – Teens who weigh more than 230 pounds should look for a firmer mattress to better support them. We have plenty of other options on this list, including the Plank Firm, one of the firmest beds out there.

What to Consider When Buying a Mattress for a Teenager
Bed Size
Teenagers are generally considered between 13 and 18 years old, and during this time, they can experience a lot of physical growth. Whether they’ve shot up, grown sideways, or suddenly developed a lot of muscle, chances are their old childhood mattress just isn’t big enough anymore.
From an economic standpoint, you’ve probably already worked out that it’s best to get a Twin bed. However, what’s best for your wallet, unfortunately, might not be best for your teen, especially when their feet are hanging off the end of the bed each night!
If they’ve grown tall with no indication of slowing down anytime soon, you may be best off looking at larger beds, maybe even a Queen. Yes, it will cost more money upfront, but it can be a lot cheaper than replacing both the mattress and the frame after future growth spurts.

Sleeping Position
From early on in life, we have a preference for which sleeping position works best for us. Therefore, if teenagers have a preference for a certain position, they should get a bed that’s good for that posture.
Side sleepers – The side-lying position, also known as the fetal position, is common among teens. A bed needs to be supportive yet comfortable for this position. Too soft, and you may find yourself rolling onto your front. Too firm, and pressure points abound.
The arm tends to get in the way when sleeping sideways, so a soft bed will ideally mold more to your shoulder/arm area. On the other hand, some side sleepers may prefer a medium firmness to ensure they’re still supported. Ultimately, it is a personal preference, and your teen’s needs should be considered to make a final decision.

Stomach sleepers – Teens who prefer to sleep on their stomachs, also known as prone position, require a reasonable firmness to ensure they don’t wake up due to discomfort or feeling out of alignment. A firmer bed would be a reasonable option for a growing body.
An inadequate mattress for a growing teen may lead to lower back pain. You need a bed that stops your spine from curving too much, as that can cause lower back pain. Considering the right mattress may prevent unnecessary dipping into the bed, allowing better sleep. Some teens may also find it difficult to keep their heads turned to the side when a bed is too soft.
