Our Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid vs. Aurora Luxe Bed Comparison for 2024

Last Updated on January 10, 2024

Written by Lisa Bowman

Brooklyn Bedding launched in 1995 with the aim of making luxury mattresses affordable for all. The company owns its entire manufacturing setup, and they design, construct, and ship mattresses from their 300,000-square-foot factory in Phoenix, Arizona. This allows them to make huge savings for consumers and sell beds at competitive prices.

Many mattress retailers claim their beds suit everyone, but Brooklyn Bedding knows a single mattress can’t possibly be a fit for every kind of sleeper. So, with that in mind, we’re comparing two of their popular hybrid models – the Signature Hybrid and the Aurora Luxe, which are both available in three firmness options.

Who I’d Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid For

  • Light to average-weight back sleepers – We think the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid in Medium is a particularly good choice for light to average-weight back sleepers, who should feel well supported and cradled.

  • Shoppers on a smaller budget – The Signature Hybrid is up to 1,000 dollars cheaper than the Aurora Luxe but still offers some cooling technology, as well as nice pressure relief and support. So, if you don’t require the extra cooling of the Aurora Luxe, then the Signature Hybrid may serve you well.

  • Side sleepers – The Signature Hybrid has an overall plusher feel than the Aurora Luxe, making it suitable for side sleepers, who tend to prefer softer beds that cushion the potentially sensitive shoulder and hip areas.

Who I’d Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe For

  • Hot sleepers – While the Signature Hybrid features cooling properties, the Aurora Luxe has additional temperature-regulating features. For starters, there’s the GlacioTex™ cooling cover (which can also be added to the Signature Hybrid for an additional fee). Then, you’ve got CopperFlex™ foam, cooling fibers in the memory foam, and the breathable coil unit.

  • Average-weight sleepers – We think the Medium version of the Aurora Luxe is ideal for average-weight sleepers in all positions, as it offers the perfect blend of spinal support and pressure relief. Combination sleepers will appreciate the responsive feel, allowing them to change positions with ease.

  • Shoppers seeking affordable luxury – While the Aurora Luxe is certainly pricier than the Signature Hybrid, it still packs a lot of luxurious, cooling comfort at a lower cost than you might expect. This is because Brooklyn Bedding owns its entire manufacturing process, allowing it to pass savings on to the consumer.

Comparing Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid vs Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe: Top Similarities

  • Motion isolation – If you wake up at the slightest sound or movement and share your bed with a restless partner, you’ll be pleased to hear that both beds offer great motion isolation. This should leave you undisturbed if your partner’s moving around during the night.
  • Multiple firmness options – Both mattresses are available in three choices of firmness – Soft, Medium, or Firm. The Firm option on each bed has a slightly different construction to the others, offering more support.
  • Trial and warranty – Both Brooklyn Bedding beds come with a 120-night trial and a 10-year warranty.

Comparing Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid vs Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe: Key Differences

  • Sizing – The Signature Hybrid is available in some additional sizes, like Short Full, Olympic Queen, and Short King. The Aurora Luxe doesn’t come in these sizes but is available in Short Queen (as is the Signature Hybrid).
  • Edge support – Both mattresses feature reinforced perimeters, and while the Aurora Luxe offers good edge support, the Signature Hybrid rates better here. With fewer comfort layers, there’s less collapsing at the sides, allowing you to spread out without falling off the sides.
  • Bounce – While both beds feature a coil unit and responsive memory foam, which offers an element of springiness, the Aurora Luxe features bouncier comfort layers.

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

Mattress firmness is an important factor when choosing a mattress, and we rate it on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest. Both mattresses are available with a choice of three firmness levels, so you can customize the bed to suit your needs.
The Soft, Medium, and Firm versions of the Signature Hybrid come in at 4, 6, and 8 out of 10, respectively, while the same versions are 5, 6.5, and 8 out of 10 for the Aurora Luxe.

Support

The slightly firmer overall support of the Aurora Luxe makes it more suitable for stomach sleepers and heavier people, while the more plush feel of the Signature Hybrid could be great for side sleepers.

There’s a great guide on the product page of each mattress to help you decide which level of firmness you need, but we think the Medium of both offers a nice balance of pressure relief and support.

Feel

If you’re after a cool-to-the-touch mattress, look no further than the Aurora Luxe mattress, with its luxuriously smooth GlacioTex™ cooling cover. The Signature Hybrid’s breathable cotton-blend cover also feels soft and luxurious.

The overall feel of both beds will depend on which firmness level you choose, but both beds should be able to provide a good balance of support and pressure relief for many people.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

Both the Signature Hybrid and the Aurora Luxe offer a gentle cradle with their layers of pressure-relieving memory foam. The Soft models offer the most sinkage, although you still won’t get the deep hug that traditional memory foam beds offer.

Responsive foams are used in both beds, but you’ll get a bit more bounce from the Aurora Luxe, thanks to the use of CopperFlex™ foam, a latex alternative. This may make it easier for combination sleepers to change positions in the night, and couples who like a springy mattress for sex may prefer this also.

Comparing Motion Transfer

We found both mattresses to have pretty good motion isolation, with the foam comfort layers helping to absorb movement from the coil unit below. Plus, the use of individually-wrapped coils means each coil can move independently, preventing movement from cascading through the bed.

However, the Signature Hybrid is a bit less bouncy, so it naturally offers slightly better motion isolation. This is important for couples, particularly where one is restless and the other doesn’t want to be disturbed by movement making its way across the bed.
With both mattresses, you’ll get the best motion isolation in the Medium and Firm models.

Comparing Cooling

Both mattresses have cooling features, including phase change material in the memory foam and a coil unit that promotes airflow, but the Aurora Luxe has additional technology that should keep exceptionally hot sleepers comfortable. The GlacioTex™ cooling cover has gel beads, which help maintain a neutral temperature, while the CopperFlex™ foam features highly conductive copper, to draw heat away from the body. Both foam layers also feature an open-cell design, to promote airflow.

The Signature Hybrid has a breathable cover, which can be upgraded to the GlacioTex™, starting at 134 dollars for Twin size.

Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)

Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Construction

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid stands 13 inches tall and starts with a breathable cotton-blend premium quilted top. The Soft and Medium versions have a 1-inch quilted top, while the Firm version has a 1.5-inch tightly quilted top. Both feel soft and luxurious.

  • The comfort layer is made with hyper-elastic proprietary TitanFlex™ comfort foam (1.5 inches on the Soft/Medium models and 1 inch on the Firm model). This foam is responsive and infused with cooling TitaniumGel™.
  • The transition layer features VariFlex™ foam, which provides comfortable support. There’s 1 inch in the Soft/Medium versions and 2 inches in the Firm version. The Soft/Medium versions allow for a deeper compression.
  • The coil support unit is constructed with up to 961 individually-wrapped coils, designed for responsiveness and motion isolation. High-caliber Ascension® coils are used around the perimeter, offering edge support.
  • The base layer features .25 inches of high-density flex foam to support the rest of the mattress.

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Cooling Construction

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Cooling is a 13-inch hybrid that starts with a luxuriously smooth GlacioTex™ cooling cover.

  • The first comfort layer features 1.5 inches of CopperFlex™ foam, featuring phase change material to help draw heat away from the body.
  • The second comfort layer features 2 inches of soft premium memory foam on the Soft/Medium versions and 1.5 inches of firm premium memory foam on the Firm version. This foam is designed to be responsive, allowing for easy movement.
  • The transition layer has 1 inch of gel swirl memory foam in the Soft/Medium versions, offering pressure relief. You’ll find 1.5 inches of VariFlex™ foam in the Firm version, providing additional support.
  • The coil unit makes up the zoned support layer, with up to 1,032 individually-wrapped 8-inch Ascension® coils, providing support, responsiveness, and motion isolation.
  • The base layer features .75 inches of high-density foam, offering support for the rest of the mattress.

Comparing Company Policies & Price

  • Warranty – Both beds have a 10-year warranty.
  • Shipping – Free FedEx Ground shipping to all contiguous U.S. states is provided with both mattresses. Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii starts at 125 dollars per mattress, and DHL shipping to Canada starts at 250 dollars per mattress.
  • Trial Period – You’ll have 120 nights to test out both the Signature Hybrid and the Aurora Luxe.
  • Returns – A full refund (minus any shipping fees) is offered for both beds if they’re returned within the 120-night trial. However, you have to have the bed for at least 30 days.
  • Price – The Aurora Luxe is going to be significantly more expensive than the Signature Hybrid due to its advanced cooling design.
