Brooklyn Bedding has been a household name in the bed-in-a-box mattress industry for years – and with good reason. Their lineup of mattresses combines affordability with high-quality materials.
Considered the most popular model by Brooklyn Bedding, the Aurora Luxe stands out for its innovative cooling and comfort technology. As a hybrid mattress with six layers, there’s a lot to explore in this offering by Brooklyn Bedding.
How did it stack up against our testing? We had Emma from our team test the Aurora Luxe in person and examine how this bed performed across categories like motion isolation, edge support, pressure relief, and more. While this mattress comes in three different firmness options, Emma tried the Medium model, which is designed to accommodate the most amount of sleepers.

Aurora Luxe Mattress Performance Ratings
Watch Our Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress Video Review
Who We Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe For:
- Folks who sleep hot – Brooklyn Bedding has gone to exceptional lengths to incorporate cooling features in multiple layers of the Aurora Luxe Cooling. “It’s one of the coolest sleeping mattresses that we’ve ever received. Truly … it’s so cold to the touch.”, said Emma.
- Shoppers looking for affordable luxury – For those who want a premium mattress without the premium price tag, the Aurora Luxe may be right up your alley. Brooklyn Bedding owns and operates their manufacturing process which helps them deliver luxury features at an affordable price.
- Sleepers who enjoy bounce – If you love the springy feel that coils give, the Aurora Luxe Cooling may be the bed for you. Mark, who also tested the Aurora Luxe, called it “an incredibly bouncy bed.”
Who We Don’t Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe For:
- Those who prefer an all-foam feel – While this mattress contains pressure-relieving memory foam, it won’t provide the same huggable sensation as a true memory foam mattress. The foam comfort layers contour to sensitive spots, but as Emma noted, “If you want to sink deeply into a mattress, this bed might not provide that specific feeling.”
- Heavyweight sleepers – Although one of our heavyweight testers for this bed gave this mattress a high overall rating, Brooklyn Bedding suggests that those who weigh over 300 look into the Titan Plus mattress specifically designed for heavyweight sleepers.
Customer Reviews of the Aurora Luxe Mattress
On Brooklyn Bedding’s site, the Aurora Luxe has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. Customers praise the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress for its advanced cooling features, but some have mentioned that it is relatively expensive compared to other options.
Testing the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe: How it Performed
Emma and Mark tested the Aurora Luxe in each sleep position to better examine who this mattress is best suited for. Body weight can also affect how you experience a mattress, so we made sure to consider this factor as well. Additionally, our testers examined qualities such as supportiveness, responsiveness, motion isolation, temperature regulation, and more.
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
At Sleep Advisor, our mattress reviews are based on findings from in-person tests that allow us to have a genuine understanding of how the mattress feels and performs.
We also evaluate mattress performance for back, side, and stomach sleeping. Lying in different positions lets us know how supportive the bed is and if it’s good at relieving pressure.
We then take all the information we’ve gathered to rate the bed in specific categories. These results allow us to help our readers find the right mattress for their needs.
For more on our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 5/10 (Soft), 6.5/10 (Medium), 8 (Firm)
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
A major factor to consider when purchasing a mattress is its firmness. Mattress firmness reflects how soft or firm the bed feels when you lie on top of it, and we rate mattress firmness on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the most firm.
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is available in three firmness levels: Soft, Medium, and Firm. We ranked the Soft option a 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, while the Medium option fell at a 6.5 out of 10, otherwise known as medium-firm. The Firm model fell at an 8 out of 10, which gives this mattress a distinctly firmer, more supportive feel than the other two.
The Medium version of this bed should cater to the widest variety of sleepers because it strikes a nice balance between softness and support. However, given the firmness levels, most sleepers should find a version of this mattress that suits all of their sleeping needs.
How Does It Feel?
“When I lay on my side, I notice that the [latex-like] layer cradles my body and relieves pressure in my shoulder and hips.”, said Emma. However, she’s an athletic build and weighs about 140 pounds, and how you experience the mattress will depend on your body frame and weight.
The smooth and stretchy top weave of this mattress should feel soft and luxurious. Thanks to the CopperFlex™ foam with TitanCool™ technology, you’ll likely notice how cool-to-the-touch the surface of the Aurora Luxe Cooling is, with Emma adding she felt “a little chilly.”
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
The Aurora Luxe mattress can support a total of 950 pounds. However, Brooklyn Bedding does suggest the Titan Plus mattress for individuals who weigh over 300 pounds as well as those who want more support.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – While the Medium option of this bed may be too stiff for lightweight side sleepers, they should be well-served by the Soft model as it provides more cushioning and pressure relief.
- Average Weight Sleepers – The combination of softness and supportiveness provided by the medium-firmness of this bed should help these sleepers feel supported without the feeling of pressure building up around their shoulders and hips.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight side sleepers should find that this bed adequately supports them and provides pressure relief on their shoulders and hips.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Petite back sleepers will most likely find that this bed offers great lumbar support, but it may still be too rigid for some in this category. If that is the case, the soft option could be a better choice.
- Average Weight Sleepers – This mattress’s coils are zoned, which keeps average-weight back sleepers supported and their spines aligned.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – The base layer of coils combined with the top layers of foam make this a supportive option for some heavier sleepers who prefer to sleep on their backs, although those seeking more support may find the Firm option suits them better.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should find that this bed provides both soft contouring for pressure relief and support. However, if it is too firm for some in this category, the Soft option may be a better fit for those.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Stomach sleepers can sometimes feel that they are sinking too far into the bed. Average-weight stomach sleepers shouldn’t experience that with this mattress as it’s supportive enough to keep the hips raised and spine aligned.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Unfortunately for these sleepers, the Medium option may not be supportive enough as the hips could sink too far into the mattress. Heavier stomach sleepers are likely better off with the Firm model.
Pressure Relief & Pain
4/5
Although this bed doesn’t relieve pressure the way an all-foam mattress would, it still offers decent relief for most sleepers.
The Aurora Luxe’s comfort foam layers are designed to cradle the body, contouring your natural curves gently. The layer of hyper-elastic Copperflex™ foam is also built to respond quickly to your body which helps make transitions smooth and painless. The layer of memory foam underneath provides deeper contouring for the lumbar region and helps transition into the supportive coils below.
Is the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
We think the Aurora Luxe’s balance of pressure-relieving and supportive materials could be good for those with pain who are trying to sleep more comfortably.
Back Pain
The supportive zoned coils of the Aurora Luxe provide excellent lumbar alignment and should help alleviate back pain by limiting pressure in the lower back area.
Hip Pain
With a medium firmness level, this mattress should provide pressure relief for those with hip pain by contouring to sensitive spots while also maintaining spine alignment.
Shoulder Pain
This mattress offers a combination of supportiveness and softness, which should help relieve pain caused by pressure buildup around the shoulders.
Support
4/5
Emma points out she felt nicely supported even while on her stomach. This is an important factor to consider because stomach sleepers typically need the most support. Without adequate support, your spine may end up in a funny shape leading to morning aches and pains. That’s why the Aurora Luxe Cooling was engineered with an 8-inch base of up to 1,032 individually pocketed Ascension® coils that provide support and give this bed a good amount of bounce.
Motion Transfer
4/5
“Motion isolation is superior on this bed,” said Emma. She and Mark tested this by jumping and getting in and out of bed to see how much of that movement the other person would feel.
They even performed a test using a water bottle to see if motion transfer would be an issue. The water bottle moved but it didn’t tip over, thanks to the layer of memory foam and the pocketed coils, which are individually wrapped for increased motion isolation.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
5/5
The Aurora Luxe incorporates cooling into almost every inch of this 6-layer mattress. The cover contains GlacioTex™ and “feels noticeably cool to the touch,” as Emma said, while phase change material in the foam layer underneath helps draw heat away from the body. A third layer of foam is infused with gel for even more breathability, and the coil base promotes airflow throughout the bed, helping to keep you comfortable and cool.
Bounce
5/5
Both Mark and Emma agree that the Aurora Luxe is a bouncy bed. Some of this bounce comes from the latex-like top layer, but the majority of it comes from the coils.
The bounciness can help with repositioning, so it’s an excellent thing for combination sleepers. Plus, it can help with getting in and out of bed.
Edge Support
4/5
Edge support on this bed is right where you’d expect it to be given that it’s a hybrid mattress. The edges hold up because the coils in the support layer go from one side to the other, so you should get an equal amount of support in the center and along the edges.
However, the perimeter reacts differently, so you may notice a bit more compression on the edges, but you’re unlikely to feel like you could roll off.
Performance for Couples
4/5
Couples should prioritize a few key factors when considering mattresses: bounce, motion isolation, and support, to name a few. Luckily for these co-sleepers, the responsiveness and motion isolation of this bed allow couples to easily reposition without disturbing their mate. Additionally, with exceptional bounce, this mattress should benefit those who are sexually active.

Construction: What’s Inside the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress?
This hybrid mattress contains six layers of high-quality, proprietary materials. Additionally, it has multiple cooling features that help it measure up to 13.25 inches in thickness.
- The first layer is a smooth cover made from proprietary GlacioTex™, which helps the surface stay cool to the touch.
- Next comes a comfort layer made from 1.5 inches of CopperFlex™ foam with TitanCool™ technology. CopperFlex™ is a proprietary material from Brooklyn Bedding that’s a latex alternative foam designed to be highly responsive and contour the sleeper’s shape.
- The second comfort layer is 2 inches of premium memory foam that is extremely strong and should not pose a problem for combination sleepers as it provides added bounce.
- The transition layer is a 1-inch swirl visco-elastic memory foam, which forms a transitional layer between the foam and support coils and helps to elevate the mattress’ motion isolation. The foam is infused with gel for further cooling. It ensures added pressure point relief.
- The support layer is made from 1,032 individually wrapped 8-inch Ascension® coils that provide support, durability, and stability. The coils also help with responsiveness and motion isolation, minimizing partner disturbance.
- The base layer is made of .75-inch high-density foam that forms the bed’s foundation. This layer acts as a base for the coils as they move under the sleeper’s weight, giving the entire bed more stability.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The Aurora Luxe arrives compressed and rolled in a box. Given the weight of this mattress, the unboxing process may be better served as a two-person job. Once you have removed it from the box and tear the plastic seam, the bed should start expanding and taking shape immediately. Once it does, remove all plastic.
Please note that it can take one to three days for this bed to fully expand, and you may notice an odor caused by off-gassing. Although unpleasant, it is harmless and should dissipate quickly. To speed up the process, make sure your mattress is in a well-ventilated room.
Certifications
- CertiPUR-US® Certified – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

Our Verdict
Overall, we gave the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 4.3 out of 5. This mattress should check all the boxes for a wide array of sleepers. Mark and Emma have different body shapes and sleeping preferences, but both found this bed to perform well.
Average-weight sleepers, hot sleepers, and couples are the best candidates for this mattress. Each of these groups should benefit from the bed’s exceptional lumbar alignment and overall support, along with pressure-relieving soft foam layers at the top.
While this mattress’s coil base and Firm option should provide adequate for some heavyweight sleepers, others are better off with a plus-size mattress designed specifically for them.
