The Leesa Sapira Hybrid mattress has been around for a while, but its younger, cooler sibling, the Chill Hybrid, is new on the scene. With “Chill” in its name, it would be a fair assumption that this is a mattress that will cool down hot sleepers. But does it?
Read on, as I investigate the mattress’ cooling features and other aspects of this hybrid bed, which is designed to make you feel like you’re sleeping on a luxurious hotel mattress. Let’s dive in and see if the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid meets its comfort and cooling goals.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
As Sleep Advisor’s lead product tester, I put mattresses through a series of hands-on tests and evaluations so that I can bring you a comprehensive overview of a given bed. I implement a seismograph app to test how well a bed absorbs motion, and I use pressure mapping to let you know if a mattress has good pressure relief. I also get onto the bed and note its features, such as cooling, support, and responsiveness, as well as how it performs for various sleep positions.
To learn more about our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.
Who I Recommend the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid For:
- Couples – This bed has great edge support, motion isolation, and bounce, making it a solid choice for those who sleep with a partner.
- Light and average-weight side sleepers – I love how the soft Euro top welcomed me and reminded me of sleeping on my favorite hotel beds. Additionally, the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid’s foam layers gently contoured around my body to provide excellent pressure relief, as the supportive coil layer kept my spine aligned.
- Shoppers who want choices – By offering its mattress in three different firmness levels, the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid provides shoppers with options that they may not find in other mattresses.
Who I Don’t Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Recommend For:
- Hot sleepers – Although Leesa touts this as a cooling mattress, I didn’t sense that heat was being drawn away from my body when I tested this bed out. I feel that this is a temperature-neutral mattress, which will be fine for many people, but those who sleep hot will probably want a different option. Explore our picks for the best cooling beds here.
- Stomach sleepers – Many sleepers will experience fantastic spinal alignment and pressure relief with this mattress, but I think that stomach sleepers would benefit from more support around the midsection. Although I didn’t test the Sapira Chill Hybrid’s firm option, I think that stomach sleepers would be better off with it.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6/10 (Medium-Firm)
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
Sleep Advisor ranks mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is offered in three firmness categories — plush, medium-firm, and firm. I tested their medium-firm option.
This mattress reminds me of a hotel bed in several ways, including its firmness. Most hotel beds fall between a 5 and a 6 on the firmness scale so they will appeal to a wide variety of sleepers. The Sapira Chill Hybrid shows its versatility in this category by coming in at a 6.
How Does It Feel?
As I mentioned, this mattress gives me major hotel bed vibes, and I typically love sleeping on a hotel bed. I was a fan of how the soft Euro pillow top welcomed me in a comforting hug, as the foam layers gently contoured around my body.
Although this is a medium-firm mattress, I noticed it felt a bit softer when I was on my side. As I settled in, I felt the supportive coil base kept my spine aligned.
What I Like About the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid
- Feels like a hotel bed – The Chill Hybrid is designed to emulate a hotel bed, and I think it does a good job with this. The pillowy Euro top and zoned support provided a contouring and balanced feel.
- Customization – You get three firmness options to choose from: Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm. By providing multiple choices, Lessa gives consumers an element of customization.
- Motion isolation – If you sleep with a restless partner or pet, you don’t want to be disturbed by their twisting and turning. The Sapira Chill Hybrid does a great job of absorbing the effects of movement and preventing it from transferring to other sides of the bed.
My Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Complaints
- Lacks cooling features – Although Leesa states that this bed has fibers in the pillow top that draw heat away from you, I didn’t find this mattress to be cool. While it would likely be fine for those who don’t sleep hot, those who do may overheat.
- Cost – This bed is made with quality materials and has a great overall feel, but it may be cost-prohibitive for some shoppers.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to Leesa’s website, their Hybrid model is designed to support an individual weight of up to 350 pounds, so we would recommend this guideline for their Sapira Chill Hybrid as well.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – When reviewing the pressure maps from my side testing, I noticed a slight pressure buildup around the shoulders. However, given how this mattress relieved pressure around the hips and maintained a neutral spine alignment, I think that it’s a great choice for lightweight side sleepers. .
- Average-Weight Sleepers – The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is a natural fit for average-weight side sleepers due to the comfort of its contouring Euro top, which provides just the right amount of softness, and the bed’s top-notch performance in pressure relief, spinal alignment, and support.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – The use of coils in the hybrid design of this mattress should provide good support for heavyweight side sleepers, while the comforting foam layers should contour enough to prevent pressure from building up without feeling overly soft or saggy. I think that the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid would make a great choice for heavyweight side sleepers.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – The Euro pillow top provides plenty of cushioning, but I think this mattress will feel more firm for these sleepers. If that’s not an issue, the lumbar zone should provide plenty of lift, and you’ll have a comfortable surface that should lightly hug your body.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – I was expecting to sink in more when testing this bed for back sleepers, but I was pleasantly surprised by the medium-firm support that greeted me. Additionally, the soft Euro top balanced the firmness out to provide seamless pressure relief.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – The Euro top and foam layers of the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid provide welcoming comfort and hug-like contouring for heavyweight back sleepers. Heavyweight back sleepers will also benefit from excellent spinal alignment and sturdy support from the innerspring coils, which makes this a solid pick for these sleepers.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers shouldn’t sink as much as their average- and heavyweight counterparts when resting on the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid. This should keep their hips elevated, which will allow them to maintain proper spinal alignment.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – There is some sinkage around the hips, and this affects the support of the lumbar region. While I think that this bed would be okay for combination sleepers who spend part of their night on their stomachs, I wouldn’t recommend it for dedicated stomach sleepers. Those who spend the whole night on their stomachs will likely need firmer support around their midsections.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – These sleepers’ hips will probably dip too far down into the mattress, and this could cause misalignment of the spine. Although the mattress might work for some combination sleepers, I would recommend a firmer, more supportive bed for heavyweight stomach sleepers.
Pressure Relief
4/5
As an average-weight sleeper, I was very pleased with the pressure relief offered by this mattress. There was almost no pressure detected when I was resting on my side and back. I felt that my weight was evenly distributed via the supportive innerspring layer, and the curves of my body were nicely cradled by the memory foam.
However, when we conducted the same test with a lightweight side sleeper, we noticed a slight bit of pressure buildup in the hips and shoulders, which is why the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid didn’t receive a 5 out of 5 for this category.
Is the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
With a combination of supportive base layers of foam and coils and a welcoming Euro top, this mattress should do a good job of relieving aches and pains. The foam allows for contouring around the parts of the body that come in contact with the mattress, and the sturdy innerspring unit keeps the lumbar region aligned.
Back Pain
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid should keep back pain at bay for many sleepers. It is constructed with coils and foam, which do an excellent job of keeping the spine aligned and preventing pressure from building up in the lumbar region. My only area of concern would be for average and heavyweight stomach sleepers. These folks may not get enough support around their hips, which could cause spinal misalignment.
Read More: Best Mattress for Back Pain
Hip Pain
Hip pain shouldn’t be a worry for most light and average-weight people, as the support system of the Sapira Chill Hybrid will likely provide plenty of lift and support. Furthermore, the foam layers should gently contour around the hips, giving plenty of pressure relief to the area.
Shoulder Pain
The exemplary contouring and pressure relief capabilities of this mattress should prevent shoulder pain for many sleepers. The only folks that I am concerned about are lightweight side sleepers. These sleepers may experience pressure buildup around their shoulders, which can lead to or increase pain.
Support
4/5
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is constructed with support in mind, and I found that it did a good job overall. The innerspring layer provides stability and allows for an even distribution of weight and spinal alignment, while the foam layers support the sleeper by gently contouring around the curves of the body.
The midsection is typically the heaviest part of a person, and beds often don’t support this area enough. However, I was pleased with how well my hips were elevated by the mattress. I noticed a slight dip in my stomach, which is why I gave this bed a 4 out of 5.
Motion Transfer
4/5
If you sleep with a partner or a pet, a bed’s ability to isolate motion to one section of the bed is particularly important. When I cross-compared a seismograph test with a classic “liquid in a glass” test, I noticed some slight motion on the surface level of the Chill Hybrid. However, I still feel that this bed rates highly in this category, and I don’t see motion transfer being a problem for most people when sleeping on it.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
3/5
With “Chill” as part of its name, I was expecting this mattress to be, well, chill. However, I didn’t get a sense of the infused fibers that are supposed to pull heat away from my body. With that being said, I didn’t feel overheated while testing, either. If you are a temperature-neutral sleeper, this bed will likely meet your needs. However, if you’re a hot sleeper, you should probably check out other cooling mattresses.
Bounce
4/5
The coils and the foam layers bounce back almost instantly, providing the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid with good bounce. I felt as if I were putting in a little more effort to reposition myself, but that is to be expected, given how easy it is to sink into the pillowy top. However, at no point did I feel “stuck” in its soft top layer—I think the bed is pretty responsive overall.
Edge Support
4/5
I noticed a bit of give when I was sitting on the edge of the bed, but I wasn’t surprised by this because the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid has a soft top layer. When I was testing out sleep positions toward the edge of the bed, I felt secure and supported and like I was at no risk of taking a nocturnal spill onto the floor.
Performance for Couples
4/5
With solid scores in edge support, bounce, and motion transfer this mattress should make a great addition to many couples’ bedrooms. By being able to sleep securely on the edge of the bed, couples can utilize the full sleeping surface. They also won’t have to worry about disturbing their bedmates when sleeping on the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid because it isolates motion well. Furthermore, sexually active couples and those who change position throughout the night should appreciate the bounce and responsiveness of this bed.

Preference-Based Features
Multiple Firmness Options
By providing plush, medium-firm, and firm options, Leesa provides some customization. This should allow shoppers to find a mattress closely aligned to their pressure relief and support needs.
Hotel-Quality Cushioning
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is designed with hotel-quality cushioning in mind, and it greets you with a soft, comforting top layer.
Adjustable Base Compatible
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid works with an adjustable bed frame.
Construction: What’s Inside the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid?
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is covered in a luxuriously soft, quilted cover infused with fibers that help maintain a skin temperature of 88 degrees. This soft, cushioned cover helps give the Sapira Chill Hybrid a hotel-quality feel. The cover is designed with two handles on each side for convenience. In total, this hybrid mattress has seven layers that give it a height of 14 inches.
- The quilt foam layer is 2 inches thick and is located directly under the cover. It resists body impressions, which allows sleepers to move around easily. The foam is infused with gel to provide a cooling element.
- Beneath that, you’ll find a 1.5-inch layer of high-performance comfort foam that promotes breathability to help keep your body temperature regulated.
- Just below that you will find a 1-inch layer of adaptable memory foam that quickly bounces back to provide responsive comfort and support.
- A 1-inch layer of support foam serves as a transitional core between the foam layers and the coil innerspring system.
- The zoned support layer consists of up to 1,032 individually wrapped coils. It is designed to provide added reinforcement around your hips to help keep them elevated. Additionally, this 8-inch layer provides spinal alignment, edge support, and lumbar support.
- The stability layer is found at the bottom of the mattress. It is made of .75 inches of high-density foam that provides overall support and helps with durability.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid arrives rolled and compressed in a box. Once you carefully open the top and cut away the plastic, your bed will start to take shape immediately. As it does this, you may notice a slight chemical smell. This is known as off-gassing. The smell may be unpleasant, but it is not harmful and should dissipate fairly quickly. To speed up this process, place the mattress in a well-ventilated room, or if possible, open windows.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you sleep on a Leesa mattress right away?
Your Leesa mattress will arrive compressed and rolled into a box. Once you have unboxed it, it usually takes around an hour to come into its full shape, but it can take a couple of days for it to reach its total expansion.
During this time you may notice a chemical smell. This is known as off-gassing. It can be unpleasant but should fully dissipate in several days.
Can Leesa mattresses be flipped?
No, Leesa mattresses are designed with a bottom-up construction, and the layers are in a specific order. If you flip a Leesa mattress, you will compromise the design and the performance (and it probably wouldn’t be very comfortable).
Do Leesa mattresses need a foundation?
If you don’t use a base with your Leesa mattress, you will void the warranty. Furthermore, a foundation helps your bed from sagging or wearing unevenly.

My Verdict
I’m a fan of luxurious-feeling hotel beds, and considering that the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid reminds me of lounging on one, it’s fair to say that I am a fan of it, too. The mattress earned an overall score of 3.8 out of 5.
It has many standout qualities, including excellent motion isolation, edge support, and bounce. My only concern about the mattress is that it might not work for heavyweight sleepers, especially those who sleep on their stomachs. I think that these folks might want to try out the firm version of this mattress, as it will likely offer more lift around their hips.
