If you’re after a versatile bed with memory foam and coils, you may want to consider the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress. Nectar is known for their all-foam beds, but the company recently added hybrids to their inventory.
The Nectar Classic Hybrid has pocketed coils for added airflow and support, which should fit a wider range of sleepers. Stuart, a combination sleeper from our team, tested the Nectar Classic Hybrid in person, bringing us all the insight into how the mattress feels and performs. Liz, a back and side sleeper, also tested the bed, so we have a second opinion as well.
We’ll dive into what they found, discussing the construction, feel, features, pros, and cons of the Nectar Classic Hybrid.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Performance Ratings
Watch Our Nectar Hybrid Video Review
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
At Sleep Advisor, our mattress reviews are based on findings from in-person tests that allow us to have a genuine understanding of how the mattress feels and performs.
We also evaluate mattress performance for back, side, and stomach sleeping. Lying in different positions lets us know how supportive the bed is and if it’s good at relieving pressure.
We then take all the information we’ve gathered to rate the bed in specific categories. These results allow us to help our readers find the right mattress for their needs.
Who We Recommend The Nectar Hybrid For:
- Back sleepers – Liz said, “As a combination sleeper, I do prefer this mattress on my back.” The bed’s upper layers offer a gentle hug as they help distribute your weight evenly, keep your spine straight, and contour the lower back
- Couples – According to Stuart, “You and your partner can really stretch out.” This Nectar model is an excellent match for people sharing a bed as it has good motion isolation, edge support, and cooling properties, all of which are important to couples who can “enjoy that memory foam comfort without sacrificing surface space,” as Stuart pointed out.
- Memory foam fans – Although this is a hybrid bed, it has memory foam that hugs the body and prevents pressure build-up. “I felt decently cradled on the top of the bed,” said Stuart. According to him, the foam responds slowly but shouldn’t make it difficult to reposition or get out of bed.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Nectar Hybrid For:
- People with shoulder pain – Some side sleepers may feel the pressure building up in the shoulder area. The hips should sink just enough, but we did not notice as much sinkage where the shoulders are, which may feel uncomfortable and cause you to wake up with achiness.
- Minimal bounce – This hybrid mattress lacks a bit of bounce. Although it’s a hybrid with coils, it has slow-responding foam layers on top, absorbing the bounce that the coils could deliver. Repositioning should still be fairly easy, according to Stuart, but those who want a bouncy bed, such as sexually active partners, may be left wanting more.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6.5-7/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
The Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress is rated 6.5-7 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This falls in the medium to medium-firm category and is among the most versatile firmness levels that should fit most people, depending on their body weight.
For example, Stuart noted, “As a slimmer person, this mattress provides a firmer experience for me.” However, he goes on to say, “If you are primarily a side sleeper, this bed may be slightly too firm for you, especially if you have broader shoulders compared to your waist, like I do.”
How Does It Feel?
The Nectar Classic Hybrid has a medium firmness, so it should fit a variety of sleepers. However, lightweight and average-weight people will experience it as firmer than those weighing over 230 pounds. The cover feels slightly cool to the touch, soft, and a bit stretchy. However, it’s not removable, so spot-cleaning is the only option.
Lying on the bed, you’ll feel more gentle cradling around the sensitive areas, but you won’t sink too deeply since the deeper layers respond more quickly than the upper foam. “I felt decently cradled on the top of the bed without feeling like I was sinking or becoming too stuck in the mattress,” Stuart said.
Testing the Nectar Hybrid Mattress: How it Performed
Stuart and Liz tested the Nectar Classic Hybrid in different sleeping positions to evaluate how it feels in each posture for pressure relief and support. They also tested for edge support by lying close to the edge for an extended period.
Additionally, the team looked at motion isolation, cooling, and bounce to help us provide better insight into who we think this bed fits best.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
The Nectar Classic Hybrid is one of the newer models in the brand’s line, so research is still ongoing. For this reason, we don’t have a precise number when it comes to how much weight the bed can handle. However, the Nectar Memory Foam mattress (the company’s flagship model) can support up to 600 pounds total, meaning that this hybrid should be able to support more than that. The coils make the bed more durable and resilient because they support the upper foam layers, preventing them from sagging under the weight.
Weight | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers (-130 lbs) | ☆☆☆ | ★★☆ | ★★☆ |
Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 lbs) | ★★☆ | ★★★ | ★★☆ |
Heavyweight Sleepers (+230 lbs) | ★☆☆ | ★☆☆ | ☆☆☆ |
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think lightweight side sleepers may find the Nectar Classic Hybrid too firm for pressure relief. This is especially the case if your shoulders are much broader than your hips.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight side sleepers should like how this Nectar feels, especially if they weigh 170 to 200 pounds. We think this group should feel more cradling and pressure relief in the hips but not as much in the shoulder area, though, so keep this in mind.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight sleepers may sink a bit too much, especially if they weigh well over 230 pounds. In this case, we think they may prefer a firmer mattress.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Back sleepers usually prefer medium-firm mattresses, and this Nectar should feel even firmer if you weigh less than 130 pounds. The foam layers should cradle your lower back while the coils keep the spine aligned.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – People weighing between 130 and 230 pounds should get the perfect balance of pressure relief and support, especially in the lower back, which tends to be the most sensitive area for them.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – The Nectar Classic Hybrid might not be firm enough for heavy people sleeping on their backs. We think the hips would sink too deeply, throwing the spine out of alignment.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers may get sufficient support from this Nectar hybrid mattress. The bed has a medium to medium-firm feel, which we think should be enough to support stomach sleepers weighing under 130 pounds.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight stomach sleepers could get a different feel, depending on their exact body weight. Those closer to 230 pounds may find it too soft, while those around 150-170 pounds should like the support level it provides.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – We think that those weighing over 230 pounds will find this bed too soft to support their hips when sleeping on their stomach. The hips would sink too deeply, which usually results in back pain.
Pressure Relief & Pain
4/5
The Nectar Hybrid battles pressure accumulation by incorporating two foam layers before the coil unit. The quilted cover feels soft and gentle to the skin, while the foam offers gentle contouring. Back sleepers will feel the contouring in the lower back, helping to prevent pressure from building up in this area.
Nectar’s mid-range firmness also gives a good balance of support and pressure relief. “This mattress does a really great job melting to my pressure points around my shoulders, and my hips, and my lower back,” said Stuart. However, some side sleepers, especially exclusive ones, may prefer an even softer bed.
Is the Nectar Classic Hybrid Good for Pain Relief?
The Nectar Classic Hybrid has layers of memory foam that allow just enough sinkage for pressure and pain relief. The gentle contouring and slow response the foam provides help cradle the pressure points and areas most prone to pain like the back, hips, and shoulders.
Back Pain
Back pain can make it difficult to fall and stay asleep, so it’s best to look for a bed that has a strong support system that helps keep the spine aligned. This Nectar is a hybrid, and its coil unit should hold your body in alignment to help alleviate back pain.
Hip Pain
Hip pain is another concern, especially if you like sleeping on your side and stomach. The Nectar Classic Hybrid allows a bit of sinkage to cradle the sensitive areas while keeping the hips aligned with the rest of the body. However, if you’re a lightweight side sleeper with hip pain, you might want a softer bed.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain can be especially difficult for side sleepers, so they often need a bed that gives them exceptional pressure relief. Though this bed contains memory foam, it might not provide the level of sinkage needed to soften shoulder discomfort. If you’re a heavier sleeper, this bed might be okay for shoulder pain, but average and lightweight people may desire something softer.

Support
4/5
This Nectar bed excels in support because it has a sturdy coil unit with 8-inch high coils underneath the foam layers. The coils are more responsive than the foam, giving the bed some bounce.
The design of this bed is a classic hybrid one. The coils in the Nectar go from edge to edge, meaning that you get equal support in the perimeter and the center of the bed. The Nectar Classic Hybrid is rated 6.5-7 out of 10 on our firmness scale, so it should provide plenty of support for stomach sleepers, back sleepers, and some heavier people (above 230 pounds) who like sleeping on their side.
Motion Transfer
4/5
Motion isolation is crucial for couples, especially if one person is a restless sleeper or a combination sleeper. Sharing a bed with someone who likes changing positions throughout the night can be stressful, more so if you’re easily disturbed yourself. This hybrid has two foam layers above the coils, which are individually wrapped for better motion isolation. According to Stuart, “Traditionally, hybrid mattresses don’t have the greatest motion isolation. However, Nectar’s additional foam layers help dampen movement.” As you can see in his video review, the water bottle barely moves when he throws a heavy object on the other side of the bed.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
5/5
Regarding cooling, Stuart noted, “Nectar put in multiple cooling features to keep you from burning up at night.” Hybrids are naturally cooler than all-foam mattresses thanks to the coil unit that allows more air to flow through.
In addition, the Nectar Classic Hybrid has a cool-to-the-touch cover that remains temperature-neutral throughout the night. Below the cover, there’s a layer of gel-infused memory foam. The gel helps the memory foam remain cool.

Bounce
3/5
If you’re after a more bouncy bed, this Nectar may not be for you. Although it has coils, the foams in the upper layer absorb the bounce to create more of a responsive feel than a bouncy one. The coils help with repositioning, but the foams create a slow response. The lack of bounce shouldn’t affect the ease of repositioning, but it may be a drawback for sexually active couples.
Edge Support
5/5
The edges of the Nectar Classic Hybrid are “very supportive”, according to Liz. The coils in the innerspring layer go from one edge to the other, and there are higher gauge coils at the perimeter. This helps enhance edge support so that the edges don’t collapse under your weight when you sit or sleep in this area.
Performance for Couples
5/5
Couples should like how this Nectar mattress feels, although some may prefer a bed with more bounce. The Nectar Classic Hybrid has a versatile firmness level that should fit most people, but it also does a good job of isolating motion and providing edge support. The thicker-gauge coils in the perimeter let couples use the entire surface of the bed, while the motion isolation ensures partners don’t disturb one another when tossing and turning.

Preference-based Features
Hybrid Design
We think the Nectar Classic Hybrid offers a balance of foam and coils, delivering support and cushioning. The combination of coils and foam makes this bed versatile enough to support many sleepers, including partners with different sleeping habits.
White Glove Delivery
White-Glove Delivery is available at checkout for an additional fee of 149 dollars. Although it’s an added cost, the service is convenient because it includes delivering the mattress and setting it up. There’s even an option to have your old mattress removed.
Two Covers
This hybrid has top and bottom covers, both serving different purposes. The top is a cooling, circle-knit cover that’s gentle to the touch, while the bottom is a shift-resistant one that prevents the mattress from moving on the bed’s foundation.
Construction: What’s Inside the Nectar Hybrid?
The Nectar Classic Hybrid is 12 inches tall with six layers, including a quilted cooling cover and a shift-resistant lower cover. The top cover has Microban Antimicrobial Protection and technology to keep hot sleepers cool and the mattress surface fresh. The lower cover should prevent the mattress from sliding on the foundation. The bed also has four handles (two on each side) to make it easy to carry.
- Below the quilted cooling cover is another cooling layer. This one is made from two inches of gel memory foam to further cool the mattress and aid with pressure relief.
- Further down is the Dynamic Transition Layer made from an inch of premium foam. This layer helps support the body while providing a bit of bounce for easier repositioning.
- The coil unit features 8-inch individually wrapped coils going from one edge to the other. This is the bed’s main support system, holding the body in alignment while also supporting the upper layers. The unit also provides excellent edge support.
- The Stability Base Layer is the last in this bed’s construction, featuring an inch of sturdy foam. Although it’s thin, this layer makes a significant difference in the stability and support of the upper layers.
Despite being a hybrid, we found this mattress isn’t very bouncy. The layers are stacked to provide airflow, gentle hugging, and support, all of which are important if you’re after a comfortable hybrid mattress.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The Nectar Classic Hybrid comes compressed and rolled into a box for easy shipping. Once it arrives on your doorstep, you should be able to easily carry it to the bedroom with the help of a friend or family member. Although the package isn’t as cumbersome, it can be heavy depending on the bed size you bought.
The unpacking itself is pretty simple, which you can see in Stuart’s video review. You can place the mattress on the bed foundation and open the package to allow the mattress to unroll right on the foundation. The handles are built-in, so you can easily move the bed around. This hybrid takes several hours to decompress, and you may even notice some off-gassing. We suggest you leave it for 24-48 hours, which is how long most bed-in-a-box mattresses take to decompress and ventilate.
Certifications
- Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the lifespan of the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress?
The Nectar Classic Hybrid is a durable hybrid mattress made from a combination of high-quality coils and foam layers. After testing this bed, we think it should last seven to ten years with proper use.
Is the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress worth it?
Although the Nectar Classic Hybrid isn’t the cheapest Nectar mattress, it delivers a lot of value for your dollar, which is why Liz called it a “very solid mattress choice.” Hybrids are typically more expensive than all-foam mattresses, but they’re often superior at support and cooling, so if these qualities are important to you, then this bed could be worth it.
Do I have to flip the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress?
The Nectar Classic Hybrid isn’t a flippable mattress. By flipping it, you change how the layers stack and perform, which can throw the entire feel off. However, you can still rotate the mattress to achieve even wear and tear over the years.

Our Verdict
After carefully testing the Nectar Classic Hybrid, we think it’s best for couples, back sleepers, combination sleepers, and average-weight people. Many combination sleepers should like this bed, but those who want more bounce may prefer a latex hybrid instead.
Although it may not be ideal for side sleepers, significantly heavier folks, and lighter-than-average sleepers, the bed is versatile enough to accommodate many other sleep styles and body types. All of this, with the addition of an industry-leading warranty and trial, makes it a great option to consider. Overall, the Nectar Hybrid earned a score of 4.2 out of 5.
