Side sleepers know the struggle of pressure building up around their shoulders and hips. This can make it difficult to find a comfortable sleeping position or get a good night’s sleep. On top of that, it can cause pain and discomfort in some cases. Nectar aims to mitigate this issue with their innovative foam layers and soft design of the Nectar Premier, formerly the Nectar Lush. After testing this bed, we think it’s practically tailor-made for side sleepers.
Emma Mattei from our review team tested the Nectar Premier in person. She evaluated it for pressure relief, support, motion isolation, bounce, and more. We’ll share Emma’s findings on the Nectar Premier mattress to help you decide if it’s the bed of your dreams.

Who We Recommend The Nectar Premier For:
- Side sleepers – This model provides plenty of cushioning for sensitive hips and shoulders, with an abundance of contouring and pressure relief, helping individuals to feel deeply cradled and softly supported. Emma said the Nectar Premier “does a great job of contouring her body and relieving pressure.”
- Warm sleepers– While some memory foam mattresses leave sleepers feeling warm, Emma said she experienced the “traditional memory foam feel but without overheating.” The Nectar Premier mattress mitigates overheating with its breathable cover and gel-infused cooling foam, which is specifically designed to keep sleepers cool and comfortable through warm nights.
- Couples – The Premier model has excellent motion isolation making it a reliable option for individuals who share a bed with a partner or pets. Emma also tested for edge support and noted that “most sleepers should be just fine,” which means couples should able to comfortably spread out across the mattress.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Nectar Premier For:
- Heavy stomach sleepers – Heavier people who sleep on their stomachs are usually an ideal match with firmer beds, which can help keep their hips and stomach from sinking into the mattress, a crucial feature for preventing lower back pain. This bed will likely be too soft to deliver that to stomach sleepers who carry more weight.
- Combination sleepers – The Nectar Premier doesn’t have a quick response to it or much bounce, as you can see in the video review. As a result, this could make changing positions more of a hassle for combination sleepers.
- People with limited mobility – As with combination sleepers, individuals with limited mobility, such as older adults, may find it difficult to reposition on the Nectar Premier.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
The Nectar Premier rates at a 6 out of 10 on the Sleep Advisor firmness scale, which is considered a medium firmness. Most mattresses with this firmness are versatile enough to fit a range of sleepers. However, the Premier may feel slightly softer, depending on your weight.
Emma, who is an average-weight sleeper with an athletic build, said she felt aligned when on her stomach, but heavier folks may prefer a firmer surface.
How Does It Feel?
The Nectar Premier has created a mattress that offers a remarkably plush experience but still retains an overall medium firmness that can balance that plushness with solid support. This feel is great for side sleepers who often struggle with hip and shoulder pain that requires them to sleep on a more cushioning mattress.
We think Nectar Premier should work just fine if you need considerable pressure relief and a cradling memory foam sensation. Mark Mattei, who also tested the mattress, said the Nectar Premier really stood out for him thanks to its pressure-relieving capabilities.
What We Like About the Nectar Premier
- Good motion isolation – People who share their bed with someone who tosses and turns should love the Nectar Premier’s ability to absorb motion so that it doesn’t transfer from one side of the bed to the other. As a result, both partners are less likely to wake up from the other person’s movements since the “Nectar mitigates disturbances,” according to Emma.
- Cooling materials – As Emma points out, “An innovative cooling cover tops off the mattress nicely,” giving you a cooling sensation as you lie on the bed. This bed’s cooling features include a cool-to-the-touch cover and gel memory foam with ActiveCool HD.
- Pressure relief – Both Emma and Mark pointed out Nectar’s excellent contouring abilities that help melt away uncomfortable pressure points.
Our Nectar Premier Complaints
- Incredibly soft – People with achy hips or shoulders should like how easily this Nectar bed relieves pressure in these areas thanks to its softer feel. However, that same soft design may make it difficult for stomach sleepers and heavier people to find a comfortable position.
- Low-pressure response – Sleepers who enjoy a cushioning feel should like how this Nectar provides a cozy cradling experience. Nonetheless, this may be a bit too much for combination sleepers as they try to change positions because this mattress has a slow response and virtually no bounce.
Testing the Nectar Premier Mattress: How it Performed
Emma and Mark focused on testing the Nectar Premier in various sleeping positions. They’re built differently, so you get two opinions on the same bed.
Emma did a bit more thorough testing of cooling, motion isolation, bounce, and edge support. What stands out the most is how little bounce this mattress has and how well it isolates motion, which you can see in her water bottle test.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to Nectar, the Premier can support up to 799 pounds, which is roughly 400 pounds per person for co-sleepers. While the Nectar can support this much weight, it’s important to keep in mind it may not be firm enough to support significantly heavier sleepers, especially if they prefer sleeping on their stomach.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – As we pointed out, Nectar offers plenty of contouring, so lightweight individuals should experience comfortable side sleeping on this bed.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – We think average-weight side sleepers, especially those with pressure buildup and pain in the hips and shoulders, should like the Nectar Premier’s plush foam layers.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – While the Premier can handle up to 799 pounds, we think heavy sleepers may not find this mattress supportive enough to keep the spine neutral.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think lighter back sleepers should get a nice blend of pressure relief and support from the Premier.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Many average-weight back sleepers should feel supported enough in this position. Both Mark and Emma felt equally supported and aligned even though Mark is somewhat heavier than Emma.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Although the Nectar Premier has a medium firmness, we think it’s likely too soft to keep plus-size back sleepers supported enough to keep their hips from dipping in this position.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Significantly lightweight stomach sleepers should feel comfortably supported in this position. However, we think the deep contouring could create a slight dip in the lower back, which could lead to discomfort.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – We think the Nectar Premier will probably be too soft for most average-weight people sleeping on their stomachs. The only exception might be those just above 130 pounds, but as with lightweight sleepers, they’ll want to look out for any lower back curving.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Although there’s much to love about Nectar Premier, we don’t think it’s the best choice for heavy stomach sleepers because it won’t offer the support they need to keep the hips from sinking too deeply into the layers.
Pressure Relief
5/5
This mattress offers great pressure relief, and its contouring is exceptional. This is excellent news for side sleepers, as they usually experience considerable tension and pressure since most of their weight is concentrated on a narrower surface.
The Premier’s pressure-relieving abilities can be attributed to the innovative combination of foams. When testing the mattress, Mark said that “it conformed his body while giving him the support that he needs.” This bed includes 3 inches of gel memory foam that provides delicate relief, followed by 3 inches of the Dynamic Response Layer for support. The combination of materials works together to offer lasting comfort.
Is the Nectar Premier Good for Pain Relief?
The Nectar Premier should work well for people who live with achy shoulders and hips. The mattress has a softer construction that conforms to the curves to prevent pressure from building up in this area. However, how well it relieves pressure and pain depends on how well its firmness matches your needs. In other words, heavier people may prefer a firmer bed, especially if they live with back pain.
Back Pain
The Premier’s ability to help with back pain is greatly limited to the sleeper’s body weight and sleeping position because the bed has to be supportive enough to ensure the spine remains aligned. This bed’s firmness and construction should help lightweight and average-weight back and side sleepers. On the other hand, stomach sleepers and those well over 230 pounds may want to check out Nectar’s Premier Hybrid model instead.
Hip Pain
The Premier has a soft design that should feel like sleeping on a cloud for those who struggle with hip pain. The foams hug your curves and pressure points to relieve tension and prevent it from further building up.
Shoulder Pain
As with hip pain, those experiencing shoulder discomfort should like how this Nectar hugs the body to melt away pressure in this area.
Explore our best mattresses for back pain and our top picks for the best mattress for hip and shoulder pain.
Support
4/5
Emma pointed out that she felt “well-aligned and supported,” which should also be the case with many average-weight sleepers. The Nectar Premier has a gel memory foam comfort layer and the Dynamic Response Layer for pressure relief and comfort. Additionally, the same layers provide sufficient support to prevent too much sinkage that would throw the spine out of alignment.
Most people should feel their weight evenly distributed and supported in various sleeping positions. However, some may feel like the Premier leaves a bit to be desired in the support department. Stomach and back sleepers who generally prefer firmer beds may prefer the original Nectar mattress, which is a bit firmer than the Premier.
Motion Transfer
5/5
Motion transfer can be frustrating for co-sleepers and couples, especially if one person is a restless sleeper or has a different sleeping schedule. The Premier is an all-foam bed with memory foam that does an excellent job of absorbing motion so that it doesn’t transfer from one side of the bed to the other.
During her testing for motion transfer, Emma noticed barely any movement with the Premier, as you can see in her video review of this bed.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
5/5
Hot sleepers usually don’t go for memory foam beds since this material is known to overheat. Luckily, Nectar found a way to fix this issue by incorporating gel and a cool-to-the-touch cover. Nectar keeps this foam from overheating by infusing cooling gel into it. Additionally, the cool-to-the-touch cover should keep the bed’s surface temperature neutral.
Read more about cooling mattress here.
Bounce
2/5
One thing we noticed about the Nectar Premier is that it has virtually no bounce. This mattress is made entirely out of foam and has a slow response to it rather than a quick-responding, buoyant feel.
Although this allows for excellent motion isolation, people who want a bouncy bed may want to look into one of Nectar’s hybrid options since these will contain an innerspring unit.
Edge Support
5/5
If you checked our video review, you saw Emma lying on the edge of the Nectar Premier. As she demonstrated, there is some compression, which we’d say is normal for a mattress that doesn’t have coils around the edges.
For a memory foam bed, the Nectar Premier does a good job of keeping you supported if you sit or sleep near the edge of the bed. We think this is a nice benefit for couples as it allows them to use the entire surface of the bed.
Performance for Couples
4/5
The Premier has fantastic benefits for couples. The bed’s all-foam design absorbs movement, while its cooling capabilities ensure a comfortable sleep with no risk of overheating. In addition, it has good edge support, although some couples may prefer that of a hybrid model as it can handle more weight along the edges. However, one thing to keep in mind is that the Nectar Premier doesn’t have the best bounce, which might be a drawback for sexually active couples.

Construction: What’s Inside the Nectar Premier?
Each Premier mattress is 13 inches thick, specifically engineered to offer restful sleep using a combination of multiple foam layers. The design works well to provide support, pressure relief, body-hugging, and motion isolation.
- The top layer starts with a cool-to-the-touch cover made of premium fibers. The cover is designed to draw heat away from your body, helping you stay cool and comfortable even during the hottest months.
- The comfort layer is made of a 3-inch thick gel memory foam with ActiveCool HD. The memory foam has a slow response and excellent pressure relief, so you should feel plenty of contouring and that classic memory foam hug. This should provide a comfortable and cozy feeling for side sleeping, along with a cooling sensation from the gel infusions.
- The supporting layer is a 3-inch conventional foam, which has a quicker response to pressure but still offers similar relief as the foam above. This layer is designed to enhance support as it prevents you from sinking too deeply into the mattress.
- The base layer is created from 7 inches of high-density polyfoam, providing durable stability to last. This material is denser to support the upper layers and your body weight so that the spine remains neutral.
- The edges in the Nectar Premier are firmer than most other memory foam beds. They may collapse only so slightly, so you should feel nicely supported even if you sleep near the perimeter of the bed.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Nectar ships the Premier to your home rolled up in a box. If you check our video review, you can see Mark unboxing the mattress. The process is rather simple since all you have to do is place the box on your foundation of choice before removing all packaging.
Once you remove the packaging, the mattress will start to unroll and decompress, which may take a few hours. If you notice any off-gassing smells, though, you may want to give it another day or two for the odors to dissipate.
Certifications
- The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.”
Noteworthy Updates:
- Nectar recently launched a hybrid version of the Premier, the Nectar Premier Hybrid, which contains an added layer of coils in the construction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Nectar Classic and Premier?
The two primary differences between the Nectar Classic and the Nectar Premier are the height and the amount of cradling. The Nectar Classic is 12 inches tall, whereas the Premier is 13 inches tall. We also noticed the Premier offers more cradling, while the Nectar Classic may not offer as much sinkage.
Is the Nectar Premier good for heavy people?
We don’t think the Nectar Premier is a good choice for heavy people. Those with a larger frame may sink too deeply into the mattress construction, which can compromise back support and lead to pain in this area.
What are the cons of a Nectar Premier mattress?
One con to the Nectar Premier is that it is likely too soft for some sleepers. Despite having a medium firmness, heavy people and those who prefer sleeping on their stomachs would probably find this bed too soft.

Overall Value
4/5
Nectar Premier packs a lot of value into this dream-like mattress. Considerable cooling capabilities of a foam bed are hard to find, but this bed achieves this preference wonderfully. This mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers and those looking for that distinct, cozy memory foam feel without the heat.
Our Verdict
The Premier is Nectar’s answer to a pressure relief upgrade as it’s designed to provide more contouring. We think this is precisely what makes this mattress a good option for side sleepers and those who struggle with pressure buildup. Most sleepers should find it comfortable enough.
However, we think heavier people and stomach sleepers may not be the best match for the Nectar Premier. This bed has a softer feel and may not offer enough support for these groups.
Overall, the Nectar Premier earned a 4.2 out of 5.
