Puffy is a mattress brand known for producing high-quality memory foam mattresses. The brand’s Puffy Cloud mattress stands out from the typical foam bed by incorporating proprietary cooling technology into its construction. How does the Puffy Cloud perform in other areas, though?
I tested this mattress in person. Along with checking out my video review, I’ll also break down the details in this written review of the Puffy Cloud.
I’ll discuss what I found regarding the properties and materials, as well as pressure relief, support, motion isolation, bounce, and other preference-based features. These details should help you understand which types of sleepers I feel the Puffy Cloud is best suited for, so you can decide whether it’s a good match for you.

Performance Ratings for the Puffy Mattress
My Video Review of The Puffy Cloud Mattress
Who I Recommend The Puffy Cloud For:
- Dedicated side sleepers – I found that the top layer should allow for a deep hug and comforting pressure relief as this comfort layer contours to the body. While this could work for many sleep positions, I think that side sleepers, who often experience pressure around the shoulders and hips, should particularly benefit from it.
- People who share a bed – The memory materials should effectively reduce motion transfer. I’d say that those with restless partners should especially appreciate how well the Puffy Cloud isolates motion.
- Memory foam fans – With a deep hug and a comfy sinking experience, the Puffy Cloud feels a lot like a classic memory foam mattress. I think this could be ideal for those who like to be enveloped by the bed.
Who I Don’t Recommend The Puffy Cloud For:
- People with mobility issues –While most sleepers should feel comfortable and well-supported by this bed, I think some may find that the deep hug can create some difficulty for repositioning. However, the Puffy brand sells two hybrid models that may help to ease movement for senior sleepers.
- Heavier people – I categorize this bed’s firmness as a medium feel. While I think it may feel comfortable for many sleepers, those who prefer a firmer bed or need a mattress for heavier people may find this one too soft and unsupportive.
- Eco-conscious shoppers – Puffy uses premium and proprietary materials in their mattresses, but the lack of natural materials may put off eco-conscious shoppers who prefer an organic mattress.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6.5/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
At Sleep Advisor, we rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the firmest. I rated the Puffy Cloud 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which would qualify as medium-firm.
This firmness allows just enough contouring without sacrificing support for healthy spine alignment. However, how you experience its firmness, sinkage, and support depends on your body weight.
How Does It Feel?
When I first touched the mattress, I felt a plush sensation from the stretchy and breathable cover. Lying down, I noticed a deep sinkage and an enveloping hug.
The contouring foams should provide excellent pressure relief and enhanced lumbar support. This gives the bed an airy sensation while cooling gel is added to help prevent overheating. The cover, however, didn’t provide much cooling as I didn’t feel it regulating the bed’s temperature in any way during testing.
Testing the Puffy Cloud: How it Performed
I tested the Puffy Cloud mattress to get a better insight into how it performs in various sleeping positions. This mattress has a medium feel, but I was surprised a bit by this because it looks softer than it is. However, it cradles as well as any softer mattress, so I think you should feel a deep hug sensation the first time you lie on it.
Apart from the general feel, I also tested for factors like motion isolation, pressure relief, edge support, and general support across the entire mattress. These tests helped me understand which sleepers this mattress may be best for.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
The Puffy Cloud is designed to support 750 pounds, which is 375 pounds per side. This weight limit is good for heavy people, but I think you should keep in mind that the bed may not be ideal for sleepers over 230 pounds.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – I think lightweight side sleepers should experience this bed as medium-firm. The Puffy Cloud should do a good job of supporting the spine without creating any pressure buildup.
- Average-weight Sleepers – Average-weight side sleepers may sink a bit deeper, especially if they weigh closer to 200 pounds. I found ample pressure relief and my hips were nicely supported.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds are likely too heavy to get sufficient support from the Puffy Cloud. I think most side sleepers in this group should do better with a firmer mattress.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – I don’t think lightweight back sleepers would feel like sleeping on a cloud, as the bed’s name suggests. Even as an average-weight sleeper, I didn’t sink as much as I would have preferred, leaving me to think lightweight back sleepers could be left wanting more in this department.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers should get enough support in the lumbar area. I felt nicely supported but there was still that lack of cushioning that could help with lower back pain in this position.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy back sleepers are likely better off with a firmer mattress that can support the hips without letting you sink into the upper layers as much.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers may get sufficient support even though this bed is on the softer side. I don’t think people under 130 pounds would sink as much, so the hips should stay aligned well enough.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – As an average-weight person, I think this bed feels comfortable in this position. However, people weighing closer to 230 pounds will sink deeper into the upper layers and this can throw the spine out of alignment and result in lower back pain.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – I think heavy stomach sleepers should sleep on a firm surface, so the Puffy Cloud may not be the best choice.
Pressure Relief & Pain
5/5
Although I’d say the focal point of this bed is the support it offers, it’s not rigid or too firm to allow pressure to build up. It felt nice around my hips and shoulders, even with the firmer feel. However, it’s important to remember that some people may experience it as even firmer, especially those weighing under 130 pounds.
When excess weight is placed on any area of the body, it can impact sleep and even lead to ongoing problems like chronic joint pain.
To combat this, many companies have chosen to build mattresses with soft and conforming memory foam. The Puffy Cloud is no exception, built with three foam layers specifically designed to minimize pressure.

Is the Puffy Cloud Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
Whether this mattress would be good for pain relief depends on the kind of pain you’re experiencing, as well as your body weight and preferred sleeping position.
The Puffy Cloud has a medium-firm feel, so it should do a nice job supporting the body in alignment. However, some stomach sleepers may find themselves sinking too deeply over time, even if the bed feels good in this position at first, which could lead to pain.
Back Pain – In general, the Puffy Cloud mattress should be a good choice for pain relief as it’s designed with three foam layers that contour the body. However, I think it all depends on your body weight, as some people may sink deeper, which can throw the lower back out of alignment and create pain and tension.

Hip Pain – People with hip pain, especially those sleeping on their side, should find enough pressure relief to achieve a good night’s sleep. I found that the 2-inch Cooling Cloud™ foam contours the hips and shoulders nicely, which should help alleviate pain in these areas.
Shoulder Pain – I think this bed is a good choice for sleepers struggling with shoulder pain because it gives a deep hug. As a result, this should help prevent pressure buildup and provide tension relief.

Support
4/5
As we sleep, we may unknowingly be putting our spine in poor alignment. A bed with good support allows the spine to remain in a comfortable, neutral position.
Soft and cozy materials can envelop the body, but if those materials aren’t supportive, your spine may bend and arch in an unnatural position. The Puffy Cloud was constructed with a strong and durable base, which helps it adapt to your body for enhanced lumbar support.
I think it feels a little firmer when I’m on my back, but this should help with spine alignment. There is little bounce in this mattress, and the top layer should feel much slower to respond than the bottom layer. This, combined with the deep sinkage, may make some sleepers feel cozily enveloped in the foam.
Motion Transfer
3/5
Motion isolation describes a mattress’s ability to absorb motion and prevent it from transferring from one side to the other. This Puffy mattress does a good job of isolating motion as it’s made entirely out of foam.
Although it has mid-range firmness, the foams are designed to absorb motion, which is excellent for partners with different sleeping schedules. In addition, I also think this makes it a good fit for combination sleepers.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
3/5
I wasn’t overly impressed by Puffy’s cooling abilities. The cover is soft and gentle, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily cooling.
However, the Puffy Cloud features Cooling Cloud™ and Climate Comfort™ foams, both of which are proprietary materials. The Cooling Cloud™ foam has gel infusions that help draw your body heat away from the mattress surface. In addition, the Climate Comfort™ foam is breathable and resistant to temperature fluctuations.
Learn more about cooling mattresses here.
Bounce
4/5
I wouldn’t call this mattress a bouncy one because there’s very little buoyancy. However, I noticed the foams move back into shape when you move, so there’s a nice response to each layer. In some areas, you may notice it takes longer for the foam to return to its original shape, but that’s typically where more weight is applied, like the midsection.
Edge Support
2/5
I tested edge support by sitting and lying near the edge. This was a rocky test because the edges didn’t hold up very well. In other words, I felt like I was sinking to the bottom when I sat at the edge of the Puffy Cloud.
I’m average-weight, so I think anyone heavier or taller could easily slip. Lying at the edge is better, but I still didn’t feel secure enough to want to actually sleep in this area.
Performance for Couples
4/5
I think that couples with different sleeping habits should like the Puffy Cloud because it has good motion isolation. However, this all-foam mattress doesn’t offer the best edge support, which can be a problem for couples who like to spread out. Plus, the bed lacks bounce, which may be another potential concern for sexually-active couples.

Preference-based Features
Proprietary Materials
The Puffy Cloud comes with two proprietary foams designed to help sleepers remain cool. These include Cooling Cloud™ foam and Climate Comfort™ foam.
Adjustable Base Compatible
This bed was designed to use with any surface or frame, including adjustable bases.
Made in the USA
Construction: What’s Inside the Puffy Cloud?
The Puffy Cloud mattress is covered with a polyester cover featuring a charcoal gray diamond pattern around the edges and a white top with fluffy cloud outlines. This cover is also stain-resistant.
While a simple wipe should clear away most visible debris, this bed’s cover was designed so it can be removed and washed for deeper cleaning. However, the zipper is incredibly hard to work with and got stuck too many times. I don’t think it’s worth the hassle of even trying to remove the cover for washing.
In total, the Puffy Cloud mattress is 10 inches tall.
- The top layer is comprised of 2 inches of Cooling Cloud™ Foam. This highly adaptive foam unit was designed to compress or push-back depending on position and weight, providing the right amount of support and pressure relief where needed. Cooling gel is infused into this layer to prevent overheating.
- Going deeper is a 2-inch Climate Comfort™ Foam. This is a breathable transition foam that touts exceptional pressure-relieving capabilities and resistance to temperature fluctuation.
- The base of the bed contains 6 inches of Firm Core Support Foam. This layer is designed to minimize sinkage and provide stability throughout the entire bed. Individualized support should also be provided through this layer, as the foam is designed to react to your body weight and pressure.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
This Puffy mattress is shipped in a box, so it should be easy to move from your doorstep to the bedroom. However, I found the package to be quite heavy, so it may not be as simple to move, depending on the bed size. I think it’s best to have a friend or family member help you.
This mattress may take a while to decompress, but make sure to place it on a flat foundation immediately upon unboxing. In most cases, it’s ready for use 24 hours after unboxing, which is also how long it should take for any off-gassing smells to dissipate. Off-gassing is common for all-foam mattresses, especially those shipped in a box. I’d suggest people sensitive to smells ventilate the mattress longer.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the Puffy Cloud mattress last?
The Puffy Cloud is made with high-quality proprietary materials, so I think it should last five to seven years with proper use and care. This means no jumping on the bed, and you may even want to rotate it now and then. Also, make sure you have the proper foundation to support this mattress. The cover is washable, but the zipper is not easy to maneuver.
Is the Puffy Cloud mattress good for back pain?
I think the Puffy Cloud could be good for back pain as the foam material hugs your body, relieving tension from high-pressure areas. The Firm Core Support Foam supports the upper layers and helps keep your spine aligned. However, I think heavy people with back pain may want a firmer mattress for greater lumbar support.
Do you need to flip the Puffy Cloud?
The Puffy Cloud isn’t a flippable mattress. By flipping it, you would change the order of layers, which would then change the way the mattress performs. The Puffy Cloud wouldn’t feel the same, and it would possibly even wear out quicker.

My Verdict
After testing the Puffy Cloud, I think it’s good for some couples as it has admirable motion isolation, though partners who like to spread out may want something with stronger edges. I also think most people will feel more ‘in’ the bed than ‘on’ it, which should help with pressure relief in the shoulders, hips, and knees.
However, the Puffy Cloud’s huggable feel won’t translate well for everyone. Heavyweight sleepers may find the bed too soft and unsupportive, while those with mobility issues may have a hard time moving around due to the softer, less responsive nature of this mattress. Overall, I gave this mattress a 3 out of 5.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
At Sleep Advisor, our mattress reviews are based on findings from in-person tests that allow us to have a genuine understanding of how the mattress feels and performs.
We also evaluate mattress performance for back, side, and stomach sleeping. Lying in different positions lets us know how supportive the bed is and if it’s good at relieving pressure.
We then take all the information we’ve gathered to rate the bed in specific categories. These results allow us to help our readers find the right mattress for their needs.
