Who We Recommend The Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite For:

  • Fans of innerspring beds – This bed contains two innerspring units. The top unit is made up of micro pocket coils designed for pressure relief, reduced motion transfer, and breathability. The bottom unit has individually-encased Ascension X® coils that are separated into zones for maximum support throughout the bed, including the edges.

  • Sleepers who want a luxury mattress – The Sedona Elite offers sleepers an upgraded hybrid experience through an innovative design and top-quality materials. Best of all, though, is that the online sales model helps cut costs for what would otherwise be a pricey mattress.

  • Back and side sleepers – We feel the Sedona Elite has a classic medium-firm sensation that should complement side and back sleepers best. Beds with a medium feel often provide the right balance of support and pressure relief.

Who We Don’t Recommend The Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite For:

  • Heavyweight stomach sleepers – While most stomach sleepers should get the support they need from this bed’s dual innerspring units, sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds may find that their hips sink too far into this mattress. If you are a stomach sleeper, explore the best beds for stomach sleepers.
  • Those who prefer the classic feel of memory foam – For sleepers who love the snug feeling of a memory foam bed, the Sedona Elite’s reinforced coil unit likely won’t satisfy their comfort preferences. While this hybrid contains foam comfort layers, it should still give sleepers the sensation of sleeping ‘on’ the bed rather than ‘in’ it.
  • Restless sleepers – The Sedona Elite has two innerspring units so it may not be the best choice for couples looking for excellent motion isolation.

First Impressions: Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 5.5/10

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.

We rate mattresses on a firmness scale of one to ten, where one is the softest and ten is the firmest. The Sedona Elite is rated a 5.5 out of 10. This means it should feel like a classic medium-firm mattress for most people, depending on their body weight.

Since this is in the middle of our scale, we think it’s a universal firmness that should work for most people and sleeping positions, but this ultimately comes down to your comfort preferences, preferred sleeping position, and weight. In other words, lightweight stomach sleepers may find this firmness level comfortable, whereas heavyweight folks who sink into the mattress more may experience it as too soft.

How Does It Feel?

As you lie on the bed, you should feel the gentle cradle from the comfort layers. This is particularly helpful for side sleepers, as they need mattresses with good pressure-relieving effects to relax tension in the hips and shoulders. You’ll feel the cradling, but you’ll also feel the support from the two innerspring units.

The cover is made from cooling fabric, so it should feel cool-to-the-touch, which helps hot sleepers fall and stay asleep.

What We Like About the Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite

  • The cooling effect – Hybrid mattresses are breathable, more so if they come with two innerspring units. On top of that, the Sedona Elite mattress has a proprietary cooling cover that helps with temperature regulation and copper-infused memory foam that prevents overheating.

  • The mattress comes with two coil units – The Sedona Elite mattress has a 2.5-inch layer of micro coils on top of another layer of 8-inch coils. The two coil units provide superior support and bounce while promoting breathability.

  • The medium feel – This Brooklyn Bedding mattress is rated a 5.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which feels medium-plush to medium-firm for most people. The medium feel is universal and should fit most sleeping positions.

Our Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite Complaints

  • It Doesn’t Have an All-Foam Feel – Some people love the slow-moving feel and excellent motion isolation that comes with all-foam beds. Despite its many advantages, the Sedona Elite is a hybrid, so you won’t get the same feel as an all-foam model.

  • May Not Be Firm Enough for Stomach Sleepers – While the Sedona Elite’s medium feel should complement many sleepers, those who regularly sleep on their stomach may find this bed lacking support. Stomach sleepers often go for beds that have a firmer feel to ensure their midsection doesn’t sink into the bed, as this can lead to improper spinal alignment and back pain.

Testing the Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite Mattress: How it Performed

We tested the Sedona Elite mattress to help sleepers decide whether this is the right mattress for their sleeping habits. This bed has a medium firmness level, so you won’t feel trapped in its upper layers. However, you should still feel gentle cradling that helps prevent pressure build-up. We tested the bed in various sleeping positions to determine how it performed in each. This way, we can suggest it to the right group of people.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

According to Brooklyn Bedding, the Sedona Elite hybrid mattress is made to withstand up to 950 pounds total or 475 pounds per person. This is a significant amount of support that should be more than enough for most sleepers, including couples.

However, although the Sedona Elite can support up to 950 pounds, that doesn’t mean it will be the ideal bed for heavy set sleepers. Due to this mattress’s medium-firm feel, heavyweight folks may find themselves sinking in too deeply.

Lightweight Sleepers (-130 lbs)★☆☆★★☆★★★
Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 lbs)★★★★★★★★☆
Heavyweight Sleepers (+230 lbs)★★☆★★☆★☆☆

Side Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight side sleepers are likely to find the Sedona Elite too firm. People who weigh under 130 are unlikely to activate the layers enough to achieve sufficient cradling and pressure relief.
  • Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight side sleepers, especially those who weigh closer to 230 pounds, should experience deeper sinking and, with that, better pressure relief.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy side sleepers should like how the Sedona’s foam and coil construction promotes pressure relief while still supporting the body in its natural alignment. However, heavier people who weigh closer to 300 pounds may sink too deeply and feel trapped.

Back Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – Back sleepers under 130 pounds should like how the Sedona Elite prevents the hips from sinking in. However, some may still find it too firm.
  • Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers should feel their weight evenly distributed. The memory foam layer contours the lower back to prevent pressure and tension in this area.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – The Sedona Elite mattress should feel similar to back sleepers who weigh above 230 pounds, but some may still prefer a firmer bed for reinforced support.

Stomach Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should experience this bed as firmer, which means they’re likely to enjoy how the two coils units support their hips.
  • Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight stomach sleepers may sink a bit deeper, depending on their exact body weight. Most should find sufficient support, but some may prefer a firmer mattress altogether.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – While some sleepers in this group may find adequate support, most heavy stomach sleepers may want a firmer mattress as the Sedona Elite’s medium-firm feel may not be enough to keep the hips raised and spine aligned.

Pressure Relief & Pain

The Sedona Elite tackles pressure buildup in two ways. First, the bed incorporates one of the best solutions for pressure: memory foam. The additional upside for consumers is that Brooklyn Bedding adds heat-conducting copper to the memory foam to prevent any overheating, a notable drawback of this foam type. The second way the Sedona Elite provides pressure relief is through the micro pocket coils. These springs are specially designed to relieve pressure, further complementing the effects of the memory foam.

Back Pain – The Sedona Elite mattress should help people with back pain as it offers just enough contouring in the lower back area. On top of that, it has two coils that work together to keep your spine straight regardless of your preferred sleeping position.

Hip Pain – People with hip pain should like how the Sedona Elite contours the pressure points to relieve pressure in this area. Side and back sleepers should experience gentle contouring (or a deep hug, depending on their weight) and sufficient support to keep the hips aligned.

Shoulder Pain – People with shoulder pain should find the Sedona Elite comfortable thanks to its medium firmness. However, some side sleepers may prefer a mattress with more sinkage to contour around the shoulders. Back sleepers with shoulder pain should like the level of contouring and support that doesn’t allow the shoulders to sink too deeply.

Support

Although pressure relief is a major selling point, good support is equally as important. Support is essential for optimal body alignment, which is necessary for preventing back pain. In general, hybrids are great beds for support, and the Sedona Elite is no exception.

The Sedona Elite is built with 8-inch high Ascension X® coils that should give you excellent support while also providing added airflow. Another advantage to these coils is they keep you supported along the bed’s perimeter, so you’re less likely to fall off or have trouble getting in and out of bed. The coils are further supported by the dense foam base, which reinforces the springs.

Motion Transfer

The Sedona Elite mattress may not have the best motion isolation, but this doesn’t mean it has none. The mattress has a layer of memory foam on top of individually-wrapped coils, so it does prevent motion transfer to some extent. However, this may not be enough for those who are used to all-foam beds since these typically perform better at motion isolation.
Couples and co-sleepers should still like the Sedona Elite, although those sharing a bed with a restless sleeper may want a bit more motion isolation from their mattress.

From the lab- Testing Motion Isolation

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

Cooling is always important for those who sleep hot, especially if they live in a warm climate. The Sedona Elite has a cool-to-the-touch cover that helps keep the bed’s surface cool throughout the night. On top of that, the topmost layer contains copper-infused memory foam which helps with temperature regulation and cooling while preventing the construction from overheating.

Another thing that helps with breathability is the fact that this bed has two innerspring units. Hybrid beds are naturally cooler than all-foam models, more so if the bed has two layers of coils. The coils allow continuous airflow to keep everything fresh and cool.

Performance for Couples

Couples are usually interested in a few things when buying a mattress. First, they often look for cooling features, especially if one partner sleeps hot. Bounce and edge support are next up on the list, both of which you can find in the Sedona Elite mattress. The bed is unlikely to collapse if you sleep near the edge as it has two coil units. However, although it has a memory foam layer, it may not be the best choice when it comes to motion transfer, especially for couples with different sleeping habits.

Preference-based Features

Hypoallergenic Materials

Allergies are frustrating and can negatively impact how well-rested you feel in the morning. The good news is that the foams in the Brooklyn Sedona Elite are hypoallergenic, reducing your chances of having an allergic reaction.

Adjustable Base Compatible

The Sedona Elite is compatible with an adjustable base. They also advise that the bed rests on a surface with minimal or no flex and that if you have a slatted base, the slats are no more than three inches apart.

Handcrafted in the USA

Construction: What’s Inside the Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite?

The Sedona Elite’s profile is 14 inches high, which provides a substantial amount of material for a luxurious feel. The bed’s cooling panel cover is designed for optimal temperature regulation upon direct contact. This is ideal for hot sleepers who want a more immediate cooling effect when lying on their bed.

  • The copper memory foam layer is located right underneath the cover. This 1.5-inch thick layer is antimicrobial, making it excellent for those who are susceptible to allergies. The memory foam should provide a gentle cradle for pressure relief, while the copper keeps the material cool to prevent overheating.
  • The first layer of coils is found under the memory foam layer. These micro-pocketed coils are 2.5 inches high. Brooklyn Bedding has designed the coils to adapt to your body’s curves, further enhancing the bed’s pressure-relieving capabilities. Another perk is that the coils are made to keep quiet, so if you’re a light sleeper, you may appreciate this design feature.
  • The support coil unit contains individually encased coils that stand 8 inches high. These Ascension X® coils feature three-zone support, providing excellent lifting for the lumbar area. Couples should also feel the bed’s impressive edge support provided by these springs.
  • The base of the Sedona Elite is a highly dense foam that is an inch tall. This layer is added to reinforce the coils as they compress, but it also boosts this bed’s durability.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

Brooklyn Bedding delivers the Sedona Elite to your home compressed in a box. All you have to do is remove it, unwrap it, and then unroll it onto your bed frame. The bed should naturally inflate to its full size once it’s laid out.
You may notice some off-gassing, but the odors shouldn’t stick around for too long. In other words, any off-gassing odors should dissipate by the time the mattress decompresses.

Certifications

  • Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

Noteworthy Updates:

  • This bed was formerly known as the Sedona and is now called the Sedona Elite.

Overall Summary

The Sedona Elite offers luxury at a competitive price point from a family-owned brand. This bed should give you a premium sleep space for years to come thanks to features like a cool-to-the-touch cover, premium foam layers, and dual-coil unit.

Side Sleepers

4/5

Side sleepers should enjoy good pressure relief from the bed’s memory foam and micro coil layers, specially designed to melt away uncomfortable pressure. Although we feel that most side sleepers will like this bed, if you’re exceptionally lightweight, you may require something more plush, which is why we scored it a 4.

Back Sleepers

5/5

The Sedona Elite should excel for back sleepers. With a true medium-firm feel, this mattress should give this group the ideal combination of cradled pressure relief with firm, sturdy support. Furthermore, the zoned support in the coils should enhance support to the lower back.

Stomach Sleepers

4/5

While lightweight stomach sleepers under 130 pounds may do alright with this bed, most people who sleep on their bellies will find it not firm enough. A firmer feel is essential for keeping the hips lifted in order to prevent poor spine alignment.

Combination Sleepers

4/5

Most combination sleepers should find the Sedona Elite a quality match for their needs. The medium firmness should adapt to multiple sleep positions, while the coils should give enough bounce to help you reposition comfortably. We rated this bed a four here because combo sleepers who regularly rotate onto their bellies may not like it as much.

Couples

4/5

We think most couples should love this mattress. One of the biggest selling points for couples is this bed’s incredible edge support, which allows both partners as much surface space use as possible. Additionally, the multiple cooling features should help prevent both partners from overheating.

Heavy Sleepers

3/5

Some heavier sleepers who sleep on their side may enjoy this bed, but we generally would not recommend this mattress to heavier people. Heavyweight sleepers need firmer beds that prevent them from bottoming out through the layers, and with a medium firmness level, the Sedona Elite will likely not deliver enough support for this group.

Lightweight Sleepers

3/5

While lightweight stomach sleepers may find the Sedona Elite acceptable for their needs, most lightweight sleepers will probably feel the bed is too firm to give them adequate pressure relief. Lightweight individuals experience beds as more firm since they sink less, so they usually go for softer models to activate the comfort layers.

Average-Weight Sleepers

4/5

Average-weight sleepers should like the Sedona Elite mattress as it provides a good level of pressure relief and support. The two coil units help support spine alignment, especially for side and back sleepers. Still, though, average-weight stomach sleepers who weigh closer to 230 pounds may want a firmer bed.

Overall Value

4/5

The Sedona Elite is an exceptional high-quality hybrid mattress that offers plenty of benefits to sleepers. Its premium materials, cooling features, and reinforced innerspring coil unit offer a lot of value and should last you for at least 10 years. For those who can afford this mattress, we think it’s well-worth the investment.

Our Verdict

With so many advantages, the Sedona Elite is an excellent choice to invest in.
We recommend this mattress to back sleepers, as they will likely get the most support and comfort from this bed.

We also think this mattress is a good match for most side sleepers, except those under 130 pounds. Most combination sleepers should like this bed, but if you spend a lot of time on your belly, we suggest something slightly firmer.

We also recommend it to couples who want excellent edge support, which they should experience from the high-quality coils.
