For our Casper vs. Helix comparison, we have two brands who understand how complicated it can be to shop for mattresses and have developed a business model and line of products to help simplify the process. Casper has developed a mattress that can adapt to most body shapes to cradle them in a perfect sleep, while Helix asks their customers to fill out a short questionnaire that then selects the perfect build and construction for their individual needs.
Both take the guesswork out of mattress buying, but which is best for you? Follow along as we compare two popular beds from each brand: the Casper Original and the Helix Midnight.

Who I’d Recommend the Casper For
- Shoppers seeking versatility – The Casper mattress has a more versatile feel that is adaptable to different shapes and sizes, making it more likely to fit the needs of you and your partner, even if you are built differently.
- Those who want an all-foam bed with bounce – Casper’s attention to detail provides some bounce to balance the memory foam in the middle so that you get great pressure relief and easier repositioning.
- People who need advanced support – If you’re heavier in the middle, it’s hard to get that feeling of all-over pressure relief without sinking too deep in the center. The Casper comes with a Zoned Support™ layer that provides sturdier support where it’s needed most.

Who I’d Recommend the Helix Midnight For
- People who prefer hybrids – Hybrids are beds built with multiple foam layers and an innerspring unit, and they can deliver many advantages, such as stronger support, bounce, and airflow.
- Hot sleepers – The Helix Midnight comes with a cooling cover, but it also has an optional GlacioTex cover for even stronger cooling, which could be ideal for very hot sleepers.
- Couples who want to spread out – We rate the Helix Midnight very well for edge support, which is great news for couples who want to have more usable surface space on their bed.
Comparing Casper vs Helix Midnight: Top Similarities
- Memory foam – Both the Casper and Helix Midnight contain memory foam. Casper uses a Zoned Support™ memory foam in its second layer, whereas the Helix Midnight has high-density Memory Plus Foam in the top layer.
- Medium firmness – We gave both beds a medium firmness rating, with the Casper receiving a 6 out of 10, and the Helix Midnight receiving a 6-7.
- Trial and warranty – The Casper and Helix Midnight each come with a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty.
Comparing Casper vs Helix Midnight: Key Differences
- Mattress type – The Casper features an all-foam construction, whereas the Helix Midnight is a hybrid with both foam and coils.
- Zoned support – The Casper has a Zoned Support™ memory foam layer, and while the Helix Midnight doesn’t have zoning, the brand’s upgraded Midnight Luxe model will have this feature.
- Edge support – As a hybrid, the Helix Midnight will offer better edge support to those who often use the edges of their bed, such as couples who like to spread out when they sleep. That being said, the Casper still rates well for edge support, especially for a foam bed.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Firmness
We rate mattress firmness on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the absolute firmest feel. We scored Casper’s Original mattress at a 6, giving it a medium firmness. True to the company’s claims, this feel is remarkably versatile and should provide the right blend of support and comfort.
The Helix Midnight rates very similarly, with just a slightly firmer feel, as we gave this mattress a 6-7 out of 10. As such, the Midnight also offers plenty of versatility for shoppers.
Support
Casper’s zoning in the memory foam layer is unique in that it provides firmer support in the center of the sleeper’s body, which is where they carry the most weight. This is followed by a highly dense support foam that also helps provide a sturdy foundation.
The Helix Midnight offers enhanced support by providing a coil unit and a slightly firmer feel. The Midnight also boasts thicker-gauge coils along the sides for optimal edge support.
Feel
The top of the Casper will feel soft and cool. You should also notice the responsiveness of the foams, which means they quickly go back to their original shape after you press into them and then release your hand or get up.
The Helix Midnight, on the other hand, will feel slightly firmer, but you should notice how the memory foam contours you while the cover is stretchy and cool.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
The overall experience of Casper for an average-sized sleeper should feel like their body is gently cradled near the surface. There is a moderate bounce as well as a quick response time that helps with repositioning, which should not be a struggle in this mattress.
The Helix Midnight’s coil unit provides some bounce, which should make it easier to move about on the bed. The memory foam in this mattress should provide some nice sinkage for pressure relief, though lightweight side sleepers may not sink enough to get good pressure relief.
Comparing Motion Transfer
Despite having moderate bounce, both beds perform excellently in this category due to the foams used in the comfort layers and the Helix Midnight’s individually pocketed coils, which allow the springs to move independently of one another. Both brands work to absorb motion and inhibit its ability to travel, which should keep light-sleeping partners from being shaken awake.
That being said, the Casper, which only has foam layers, will inevitably produce less motion transfer compared to the Midnight. Therefore, if motion transfer is a top concern, you’d likely prefer the Casper bed.
Comparing Cooling
A good cooling mattress is going to be helpful for those who struggle to sleep because they often overheat at night. The good news for hot sleepers is that both of these mattresses are equipped with cooling capabilities.
In its top layer, the Casper has a propriety foam called AirScape™, which is designed to prevent heat from building up. The Helix Midnight features a cooling cover, but those who sleep very hot can pay extra for a special GlacioTex cooling cover. The mattress also provides cooling through the coils, which allow more air to pass through the mattress and help it stay cooler.
Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)
Casper Construction
Casper’s flagship mattress is rolled up and placed in a box for shipping to your home. This bed has an all-foam structure that stands 11 inches tall and is made up of three layers. Casper’s cover is a soft polyester that’s made to be durable.
- The top layer starts the construction off with a comfort unit made from the company’s special blended foam, AirScape™. Not only can this foam provide the bed with some bounce, but it can also cradle your body and let air flow through.
- The middle layer consists of transitional memory foam called Zoned Support™ that is harder in the central third of the mattress under your hips to keep them level with the rest of your body for more tailored spine support.
- The final layer is the base, and it is made of high-density support foam for deep compression support and spine alignment.
Helix Midnight Construction
Helix’s Midnight mattress is also delivered to your door roll-packed into a box. The bed features an 11.5-inch tall profile with a total of four layers. The Midnight’s Soft Touch Cover is stretchy and durable, so it shouldn’t tear easily. While this cover is breathable, you can also choose to pay for the GlacioTex cover if you need advanced cooling.
- The Memory Plus Foam is unique to Helix. This high-density memory foam is designed to contour your shape for cushioning and pressure relief.
- The transition layer is a high-grade poly foam, delivering additional pressure relief and support, while also easing you into the innerspring unit.
- The coil unit stands 8 inches high. The coils are made from steel and are individually wrapped to help reduce motion transfer. Additionally, thicker gauge coils are along the sides for edge support.
- The DuraDense Foam sits at the bottom and serves as a supportive base and durability.
Comparing Company Policies & Price
- Warranty – Both the Casper and Helix Midnight have a 10-year warranty policy.
- Shipping – Casper comes with free shipping to the United States and Canada. With the Helix, shipping is free within the U.S., but there’s an additional fee for shipments to Canada.
- Trial Period – These beds also have the same trial period length, with each brand offering shoppers 100 nights to test out these mattresses.
- Returns – You can return your Casper mattress for free within the trial period, but you need to have used it for at least 30 days. Helix will let you return their mattress within the trial period, but up to two mattresses can be returned per household or customer.
- Price – These mattresses are nearly identical in price. Interestingly enough, the Helix Midnight is just slightly cheaper than the Casper, which is rare since hybrids are usually more expensive than foam mattresses.
