One of the internet’s favorite mattress brands has updated features from their original Casper mattress to better serve sleepers who need extra support and bounce. The Casper Hybrid contains some of the same pressure-relieving materials customers loved in the original, but the addition of pocketed coils makes this bed unique from its predecessor.
Our in-depth Casper Hybrid Mattress review looks at all these features and more to evaluate if this bed is worth your time and money. We examined this mattress using our scoring system, which looks at features such as cooling, support, and overall comfort.

Who We Recommend The Casper Hybrid For:
- Combination sleepers – People who switch between their stomach, back, and side while sleeping should enjoy this mattress. The bed uses responsive foams and coils to help facilitate movement without sacrificing comfort.
- Those in need of reinforced support – The second layer of this mattress is equipped with Zoned Support™ Memory Foam that is firmer under the hips, waist, and lower back and softer under the shoulders. This design helps sleepers maintain spinal alignment, limiting pressure on the lower back.
- Innerspring mattress fans – Sleepers get all the things they love about the original mattress, such as the comforting foam and zoned support, but this hybrid offers extra support and bounce thanks to the coils used.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Casper Hybrid For:
- Lightweight side sleepers – Side sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds may find the Casper Hybrid too firm to adequately relieve pressure in the shoulders, hips, and knees. Although the bed has good pressure-relieving properties, side sleepers who weigh below average may not sink into the upper comfort layers deep enough, which is why some may prefer a softer mattress.
- Those looking for firmness options – Casper designed this mattress to offer a versatile medium-firm feel, which should do an excellent job of accommodating different sleep positions and body frames. However, a lack of different firmness options may be a drawback for those who prefer a softer or firmer mattress.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6 – 6.5/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
A mattress’s firmness level can make a big difference in whether a bed fits your needs or not. Some people prefer softer or firmer mattresses, while most benefit from a more balanced feel, such as the mid-range firmness level found in the Casper Hybrid mattress.
The Casper Hybrid is rated a 6-6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. We rate mattresses on a scale from one to ten, with one being the softest and ten being the firmest. This ranks the Casper Hybrid mattress as medium-firm, so it should fit most people, but especially average-weight sleepers, lightweight stomach sleepers, and couples.
How Does It Feel?
When you first lie on the Casper Hybrid, you’ll notice the foams mimic a sensation similar to a gentle cradle.. As sleepers sink through the softer top layers, they should find pressure relief, while the Zoned Support™ Memory Foam supports neutral spine alignment.
The coils in the base provide the bulk of the support and responsiveness in this mattress. This sturdy addition adds bounce, which is great for sexually-active couples. Plus, the coils make repositioning easier.
What We Like About the Casper Hybrid
- Targeted support – The Casper Hybrid has three zones of targeted support to keep your body in healthy alignment. Soft foam around the shoulders provides ample pressure relief while firm foam underneath supports the hips and lower back from sinking too deeply.
- Breathability – This mattress features the brand’s AirScape™ Technology which contains thousands of perforations for continuous airflow. This technology helps promote a comfortable body temperature by drawing heat and humidity away from the surface of the bed.
- Edge support – The Casper Hybrid has coils from one edge to the other, which means the perimeter is unlikely to collapse if you sit or sleep near the edge.
Our Casper Hybrid Complaints
- Medium-firm feel isn’t ideal for some sleepers – The Casper Hybrid has a mid-range firmness level that should fit people who weigh 130 to 230 pounds. However, the bed may be too firm for lightweight sleepers and too soft for those who weigh above 230 pounds.
- Firmer than the Casper Original – If you love nothing more than a mattress that completely envelopes and cradles your frame, the Casper Hybrid may not be for you. The brand’s original mattress is an all-foam version of this bed that runs somewhat softer than the Hybrid model. So, if you prefer the more huggable feel of the Original, know that the Hybrid version feels firmer and more supportive.
Testing the Casper Hybrid Mattress: How it Performed
The Casper Hybrid mattress has a good balance of pressure relief and support due to its foam and coil construction. This bed also has sufficient bounce, which is something couples and combination sleepers should appreciate.
We tested the Casper Hybrid in various sleeping positions to get a better understanding of how it performs for different people. In addition, we also tested the bed’s motion isolation, edge support, cooling, and overall support to see which types of sleepers it’s best fit for.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to Casper, this hybrid mattress doesn’t have a weight limit. The construction can handle all bodies and shapes, but it’s important to note that the bed may feel different depending on your weight. In other words, heavier people may experience the bed as softer, while those who weigh under 130 pounds may find it firmer.
Weight | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers (-130 lbs) | ★☆☆ | ★★☆ | ★★☆ |
Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 lbs) | ★★★ | ★★★ | ★★☆ |
Heavyweight Sleepers (+230 lbs) | ★☆☆ | ★☆☆ | ☆☆☆ |
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight side sleepers may find the AirScape™ foam too firm to hug their shoulders and hips properly. They don’t weigh enough to activate the foam and sink sufficiently for optimal pressure relief.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight side sleepers, especially those who weigh around 170 pounds, should find enough sinkage and pressure relief in the Casper Hybrid. The bed’s firmer feel also helps with spine alignment in this position.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Significantly heavier side sleepers might sink too deeply into this bed, which can throw the spine out of alignment and create pressure buildup in the hips. However, those closer to 230 pounds who prefer a softer mattress should like how the Casper Hybrid feels.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should like how the top foam layer contours to their curves without sacrificing lumbar support. However, some may find this mattress too firm for their liking.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers should like Casper’s three zones of support that uses softer foam around the shoulders and firmer foam for the lumbar region.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy back sleepers may find that their shoulders sink too deeply since the foam is softer in this area. The back should be “on” the mattress, but the shoulders may feel more “in” the upper layer.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should enjoy the mid-range firmness of the Casper Hybrid. The bed should feel slightly firmer to people who weigh under 130 pounds, which is good for stomach sleepers since this position typically requires more support.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight stomach sleepers may experience this bed differently depending on their exact weight. Those closer to 130 pounds should get sufficient support, but those closer to 230 pounds may want to look for a firmer bed.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy people need maximum support, more so if they like sleeping on their stomach because the hips tend to sink in this position. For this reason, the Casper mattress may be too soft to support heavyweight sleepers.
Pressure Relief & Pain
The first comfort layer in the Casper Original Hybrid that provides pressure relief is the AirScape™ foam, a material designed to soothe achy joints and help prevent the bed from becoming too hot.
Below the AirScape™ foam is a layer of Zoned Support™ memory foam. Memory foam is immensely popular for its pressure-relieving capabilities. This foam, however, offers a 2-in-1 appeal by minimizing pressure and providing targeted support to keep your spine in alignment.
Back Pain – People with back pain should appreciate the three support zones that the Casper mattress has in the middle layer. These ergonomic zones provide ample support for the lower back, which help relieve tension and prevent pressure from building up again.
Hip Pain – Those with hip pain should like this mattress’s sinkage as well as the gentle cradling sensation the foam layers provide. This helps relieve pain and pressure in the hips, while the bed’s firmer feel supports spine alignment.
Shoulder Pain – People with shoulder pain should enjoy the way the softer foam layers contour around the shoulders, allowing just enough sinkage for pressure relief. This helps relieve the tension in the shoulders without throwing the spine out of alignment.
Support
While pressure relief is important, no top-quality bed is complete without an excellent support system to ensure your spine stays well-aligned, minimizing your risk of developing or worsening pain in the back or neck.
As mentioned, the Zoned Support™ memory foam helps foster good spine alignment by providing enhanced support. This innovative foam system is softer below the shoulders while more firm in typically heavier areas, including the lower back, waist, and hips.
The coil unit below this foam further supports the spine with individually-encased coils and a firm border around them to support your body on all sides of the bed.
Motion Transfer
Although the Casper Hybrid mattress has coils, they’re individually-wrapped to minimize motion transfer. This means that the coils move separately, which helps prevent movement from transferring from one side of the bed to the other. In addition, this hybrid mattress contains two foam layers above the coils which further help with motion isolation. The foams absorb movement, making this bed a good choice for restless sleepers, combination sleepers, and partners with different sleeping habits.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
When it comes to cooling, this Casper mattress has many things to offer — hybrids are naturally cooler than all-foam mattresses, and this bed is no exception. The Casper Hybrid mattress has perforated AirScape™ foam that helps the mattress maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature. The perforations allow maximum breathability, pulling the heat away from your body and carrying it through to the coils, which helps prevent the foam from overheating. Couples and hot sleepers should appreciate these cooling benefits.
Performance for Couples
Couples usually look for a bit of bounce, motion isolation, edge support, and cooling. Luckily, the Casper Hybrid mattress has all that, which makes it a good option for couples and anyone else who shares a bed. The foams allow a bit of sinkage, but you’ll feel the resistance within the few first inches, so you won’t feel trapped inside the mattress. In addition, the two foam layers absorb motion, so partners don’t disturb one another when tossing and turning.

Preference-based Features
Exceptional Edge Support
The Casper Hybrid has strong edges for a bed-in-a-box mattress. A perimeter of durable poly foam surrounds the coils for reinforced edge support. Sleepers should be able to rest along the side and feel little difference between the edge and middle of the mattress.
High Bounce
The innerspring unit should provide buoyancy and responsiveness for those looking for a bed with some bounce. This means you’re unlikely to feel trapped in this bed. Instead, most people should find it easy to reposition and get in and out of bed.
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation keeps movement from transferring across the bed. The Casper Hybrid is constructed with quality foams and pocket coils that anchor motion to help you avoid waking up your significant other during the night.
Adjustable Base Compatible
The Casper Hybrid is compatible with adjustable bases.
Construction: What’s Inside the Casper Hybrid?
The Casper Original Hybrid \works well on most bases and foundations, including an adjustable base. However, if you are using a slatted platform bed, make sure that the slats are no more than 4 inches apart.
The cover of this bed is made with a polyester blend that includes recycled polyester, upcycled cotton, rayon, and lycra. Beneath the cover, there are two layers of foam followed by a coil base, which gives the bed an 11-inch height. Both the all-foam and hybrid versions of the Casper Original are 11 inches tall.
- The first layer under the cover is made of breathable AirScape™ foam that is perforated to increase airflow, helping you stay cool during the night so you don’t wake up feeling too hot. This foam is also designed to relieve pressure by conforming to your body.
- The middle layer consists of Zoned Support™ memory foam. This layer features three ergonomic zones to optimize spinal alignment — a major plus for those in need of solid back support. This foam is softer underneath the shoulders and firmer under the hips, waist, and lower back.
- The base of this bed is a foundation of durable pocket coil springs that provide edge-to-edge support. A foam border surrounds this innerspring unit, providing edge-to-edge stability. This allows you to get in and out of bed easier and access the bed’s entire surface space without sinking.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The Casper Hybrid mattress comes compressed in a box, which makes it easy for you to move from your door to the bedroom. Casper claims it takes only a few minutes for the mattress to decompress, but we suggest letting it air out for at least a day. This way, you can be sure that the off-gassing smell is gone and that the mattress reached its full size. Off-gassing is common for mattresses made with foam. Typically, the smell dissipates within a day.
Once the mattress arrives at your door, place it on your foundation of choice before removing the packaging. Keep in mind that the bed may be heavy to move around, so you may find it easier to have a friend help with the unboxing. If not, you can always opt for the In-Home Delivery option offered by Casper.
Certifications
- Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Casper Hybrid Mattress Sleep Hot?
The Casper Hybrid mattress is a good match for hot sleepers as the materials actively fight against overheating. The brand’s proprietary AirScape™ technology includes tiny perforations in the foams that promote airflow throughout the entire construction. In addition, it’s a hybrid mattress, which means the spaces between the coils help generate even more airflow.
Does the Casper Hybrid Mattress Smell?
Some off-gassing odors are normal for most bed-in-a-box mattresses, so you may notice a smell when you first open the Casper Hybrid mattress. However, the odor should dissipate within 24 hours which is also how long you should let the bed decompress.
How Thick is the Casper Hybrid?
The Casper Hybrid mattress is 11 inches tall, which is a good height for those looking for a mid-range mattress. This means the bed is not too tall or too thin, so it should look good even in smaller bedrooms.

Overall Summary
The Casper Hybrid delivers the same pressure-relieving, yet supportive feel as the Original but takes this sensation up a notch. Its coil base adds a nice touch of responsiveness and cooling.
Side Sleepers
5/5
Side sleepers should benefit the most from this product. The Zoned Support™ memory foam targets side sleepers’ needs with the softer foam in the shoulders, helping reduce strain. These folks should also enjoy how the memory foam layer evenly distributes their weight.
Back Sleepers
4/5
Folks who sleep on their back should benefit from the individually-encased coils in the base unit which are to keep sleepers well-supported. The comfort foams should contour to their middle back, helping to distribute their weight and provide proper alignment.
Stomach Sleepers
4/5
Stomach sleepers love a bed that can deliver on hip support. The Zoned Support™ helps keep the hips elevated and in line with the rest of the sleeper’s body. In addition, thick pocket coils at the base gives stomach sleepers the extra firmness they may need.
Combination Sleepers
5/5
Combination sleepers need a bed that has enough versatility to complement multiple sleep positions. The medium-firm comfort level typically works best for combination sleepers since it’s the most universal, and this bed’s Zoned Support™ should keep you comfortable no matter the position.
Couples
5/5
Similar to combination sleepers, couples need a versatile bed that can work for each partner. However, other factors are also important for couples, including bounce, edge support, and motion isolation. This model offers all three features, making it an excellent choice for couples.
Heavy Sleepers
3/5
People who weigh significantly more tend to prefer firmer beds that provide them with more robust support and minimize their risk of bottoming out. While the Casper Hybrid is slightly firmer than the all-foam version, heavier individuals may want to pursue a bed specially designed for larger frames.
Lightweight Sleepers
3/5
Light sleepers typically gravitate toward softer beds that don’t leave them feeling as though they’re sleeping on a rock. The medium-firm feel of this hybrid bed may work for most individuals, but it may still be too firm for those who are more lightweight.
Average Weight Sleepers
5/5
Those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds should like the medium-firm feel of the Casper Hybrid mattress. The bed cradles the curves and provides pressure relief in the hip and shoulder area, while supporting spine alignment.
Overall Value
5/5
This bed combines the support and buoyancy of coils with the pressure-relieving features of foam, allowing customers to have the best of both worlds in one excellent mattress. For those who value good back support, the memory foam layers combined with targeted support zones provides optimal spine alignment by focusing on the areas where you need support the most.
Our Verdict
Although the Casper Hybrid and Casper Original may seem similar, the Hybrid contains an additional layer of individually-wrapped coils, which give it more bounce and better support, especially in the lumbar area. This mattress also has three zones of support with variable firmness in the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
After testing the Casper Hybrid mattress, we think it’s a good match for side, back, and stomach sleepers, average-weight people, couples, and those who sleep hot. On the contrary, this mattress isn’t the best fit for the most lightweight of sleepers or the most heavy, as its medium-firm feel may not offer enough of a cradling sensation for lightweight people or enough support for heavier people.
