These days buying a mattress online seems to be the new norm. This comes with a ton of benefits, like convenience and great value, but it also means you might feel overwhelmed with options.
We’re hoping to make things a little less overwhelming for you with this in-depth review of the Lucid Hybrid mattress, a bed-in-a-box product that’s also low-priced. We’ll go over important details like firmness, support, pressure relief, and much more, so you can determine whether or not this bed is a good fit for you– and hopefully cross those other options off your list.

Who We Recommend The Lucid Hybrid For:
- Back sleepers – Back sleepers, especially average-weight back sleepers, should benefit the most from this bed. It is supportive enough to keep the spine in neutral alignment throughout the night, and its memory foam should provide comfortable pressure relief.
- Shoppers looking for great value – The Lucid Hybrid is one of the best value bed-in-a-box mattresses currently on the market. A Queen will cost you less than 400 dollars while still retaining excellent quality.
- Couples – The Lucid Hybrid has reinforced edges, meaning you and your partner will be able to comfortably use the entire surface of the bed.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Lucid Hybrid For:
- Heavyweight sleepers – Heavyweight sleepers need a bed that’s going to ensure they get plenty of support. While the Lucid Hybrid is firm, we don’t feel that it’s going to give plus-size sleepers the lifting they need.
- Hot sleepers – Memory foam is notorious for trapping heat. While this bed does infuse bamboo charcoal to help cool the memory foam, if you tend to sleep hot already, you might do better with a more advanced cooling mattress.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 7/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
We rank mattress firmness between 1 and 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. With that in mind, we gave the Lucid Hybrid a 7 out of 10 for firmness. This means the Lucid Hybrid is slightly firmer than your average medium-firm bed.
It combines softer foam layers on top with sturdy, springy coils below, and together this creates a balanced and supportive bed. That said, firmness is subjective, and to heavier individuals, this bed may feel softer and likely won’t be supportive enough in most positions.
How Does It Feel?
When you first lie down on the Lucid Hybrid, you’ll probably notice yourself sink down into the top layer of memory foam. However, you shouldn’t sink too far because, beneath the contouring and soft memory foam, there is a layer of highly responsive poly foam. This means it pushes back a bit, so you shouldn’t feel stuck in this bed.
If you move around on the mattress, you’ll notice it provides great mobility support and some bounce because of its layer of coils.
What We Like About the Lucid Hybrid
- It’s inexpensive – This bed costs less than half of what many similar mattresses cost. If you’re on a budget, it’s definitely something worth considering.
- It works for most stomach sleepers – It can be hard to find a bed that feels firm yet pressure-relieving enough to comfortably sleep on your stomach. This one should work well for most stomach sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds.
- 10-year warranty – This mattress comes with a 10-year warranty, which should be enough to cover the lifetime of this bed.
Our Lucid Hybrid Complaints
- Off-gassing – This is a small complaint because many bed-in-a-box mattresses have an initial chemical release smell, but when you unbox this bed it will need about 24 to 48 to lose that smell.
- It’s not eco-friendly – Unlike organic mattresses on the market, this bed is made with materials like memory and poly foam, which aren’t as environmentally friendly.
- It doesn’t work for all bodies – This bed likely won’t be supportive enough for sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds and may feel too firm for those weighing under 130 pounds.
Testing the Lucid Hybrid: How it Performed
In order to determine who this bed is best suited for, we tested it out in several categories. First, we lied on it in different positions to determine which body types and sleep positions it would best serve. Then, we tested it for its overall support and pressure relief. Lastly, we checked on specific performance-based categories like bounce, motion isolation, temperature regulation, and edge support.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to Lucid, this mattress is designed to support “any reasonable amount of human weight.” That said, just because this mattress can support a lot of weight, doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the best fit for all body types.
Weight | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers (-130 lbs) | ☆☆☆ | ★☆☆ | ★★★ |
Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 lbs) | ★☆☆ | ★★★ | ★★★ |
Heavyweight Sleepers (+230 lbs) | ☆☆☆ | ★★☆ | ☆☆☆ |
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – The Lucid Hybrid is a relatively firm mattress, which means lightweight side sleepers will feel plenty of support but not enough pressure relief on their shoulder and hip to feel comfortable in this position.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight sleepers who move from their side to another position through the night will likely feel comfortable on this bed, but those who sleep solely on their side will want something softer.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight sleepers will push down through the comfort layers of this bed and bottom out on the hard support coils beneath, which will be uncomfortable.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers who love the feel of a firm bed will do well on the Lucid Hybrid but most will probably want something a bit softer.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers will sink into this bed just enough to feel the benefits of the top comfort layers and the bottom support layer. They should feel comfortable and supported.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight back sleepers close to 230 pounds will probably feel supported and comfortable on this mattress, though those over 300 pounds will want something more supportive.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should get plenty of support on this mattress. The firmness will help prevent their hips from dipping into the bed, which will keep the spine in healthy alignment.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight stomach sleepers will also feel supported on this bed; it should be just the right amount of firmness for these sleepers.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight stomach sleepers will need a more supportive bed to prevent their hips from dipping and creating a curve in the lower back.
Pressure Relief & Pain
Pressure relief is a term that reflects how well a bed can alleviate tension in sensitive areas like the hips, shoulders, and lower back. A bed that is too firm and has no sinkage will have minimal pressure relief (just imagine lying on a wooden floor, for example), whereas a soft and contouring bed will better alleviate pressure and pain.
Like all mattresses, this one will alleviate pressure differently in different positions, but overall, it feels more supportive than pressure-relieving.
- Back Pain – Sleepers with back pain will want a mattress that keeps the spine in neutral alignment. While the coils do a good job of bolstering the spine to keep it properly aligned, the top layer of memory foam creates some sinkage. This is pressure relieving but doesn’t provide quite enough support for people with back pain.
- Hip Pain – Sleepers with hip pain who sleep on their stomachs might love this bed, as it will cradle the hips but also prevent them from sinking into the bed. However, back and side sleepers with hip pain will probably want a bed that is softer.
- Shoulder Pain – Shoulder pain is often exacerbated by a too-firm mattress combined with side sleeping. This mattress will be too firm for side sleepers with shoulder pain. However, it could work well for strict back or stomach sleepers with shoulder pain.
Check out our top picks for the best mattress for hip and shoulder pain.
Support
“Support” describes a bed’s ability to keep your spine in a healthy, neutral alignment throughout the night. The Lucid Hybrid will be more supportive for some body types than others. In particular, it should be supportive for light and average-weight sleepers. That said, while it is supportive for lightweight sleepers, it may not exactly feel comfortable for them.
Conversely, this mattress will likely not be supportive enough for heavyweight sleepers. Those who weigh 230 pounds or more will likely sink down too much into the top layers of memory foam for their spine to feel supported and comfortable.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer describes how much you’ll be able to feel it when somebody moves on a different part of the bed.
In order to see how well a bed isolates motion, we place a water bottle on one side of the bed and then lie on the other side of the bed. Sometimes the water bottle will remain upright, wobble, or even fall. The more stable the bottle remains, the better it rates for motion isolation.
In this case, the Lucid Hybrid did a pretty good job isolating motion, especially considering it has a layer of bouncy coils. It should work well for most sleepers sharing a bed.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
As we briefly mentioned before, memory foam is not usually known for its cooling properties. The dense foam can tend to trap heat, making it a bad choice for those who sleep especially hot.
The Lucid Hybrid does include bamboo, charcoal, and aloe vera in its construction– all of which should help dissipate heat somewhat. Plus, it has a layer of individually-wrapped coils, which allows for some airflow.
However, the top layer is still a rather dense memory foam and will sleep hotter than beds made with materials like latex.
Performance for Couples
Often, couples want a mattress with specific qualities like good motion isolation, temperature regulation, edge support, and some bounce.
As we’ve seen, the Lucid Hybrid performs pretty well when it comes to isolating motion, which is a big plus for those sharing a bed. Conversely, it still has some bounce – a good quality for sexually-active couples. Finally, it has excellent edge support, meaning you and your partner can really spread out and use the entire surface of the bed.
It is only lacking in the cooling department, so if you two don’t sleep hot, it should be a great bed for couples.

Preference-based Features
Bed-in-a-box
This bed is conveniently compressed into a box and delivered right to your door. You’ll just unbox the bed, set it on a frame, and let it decompress.
Explore more bed-in-box-mattresses.
Exceptional Edge Support
The Lucid Hybrid includes a firm layer of poly foam around the edges of the bed for extra edge support. This means no sagging edges, and it makes the bed’s entire surface equally usable.
Adjustable Base Compatible
This mattress is compatible with a variety of frames, including metal grids, platforms, slats, box springs, and even adjustable bases.
Construction: What’s Inside the Lucid Hybrid?
The Lucid Hybrid is a bed-in-a-box, which means when you get it, it will be compressed in a box. It should take about 24 to 48 hours to completely decompress, and when it does, it will measure 10 inches high.
Its cover is made of a thin, knit, polyester material. It feels stretchy, soft, and durable. Inside the cover, the mattress itself contains four layers.
- The top layer is made of memory foam. This layer allows for some body-contouring sinkage and pressure relief. The memory foam is infused with bamboo charcoal to help increase breathability, though as we’ve mentioned, some hot sleepers may still find this bed to be too warm for their taste.
- The second layer is made of poly foam. This foam is infused with aloe vera. This foam is designed to act as a transition unit that eases the sleepers into the firmer support layers below.
- A support foam follows this, standing 1 inch tall. This layer should provide added support to ensure the sleeper’s body remains lifted and reduces their risk of misalignment.
- The innerspring unit lies beneath all the upper foam layers. It consists of individually-wrapped coils, which deliver bounce, mobility, and support. Since they’re individually wrapped, the coils move independently from one another, which is good news for couples as it should help minimize some motion transfer.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Unboxing this bed should take about 10 to 15 minutes with the help of a friend. We specify “with the help of a friend” because while it is a simple setup, it is still heavy and can be cumbersome to handle.
Like most bed-in-a-box mattresses containing foams, this one comes with an initial off-gassing period. This means that for about 24 to 48 hours, the Lucid Hybrid will off-gas a chemical odor, which will then completely dissipate. You can speed up this process by keeping it in a well-ventilated room and not adding bedding until it has a neutral smell.
Certifications
- CertiPUR-US® certified – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. Frequently Asked Questions
Is Lucid good for side sleepers?
Lucid makes a variety of mattresses with different firmness levels. That being said, both Lucid beds we’ve reviewed, including the 10-inch hybrid and the 12-inch all-foam model, don’t rate well for side sleepers. If you’re a strict side sleeper and like the brand, consider also purchasing their gel memory foam topper for added contouring.

Are Lucid mattresses made in China?
Yes, Lucid mattresses are manufactured in China.
Can you flip a Lucid mattress?
No, you shouldn’t flip your Lucid mattress. It is set up so that the softer layers are on top and the firmer support layers are on the bottom. You can, however, rotate your Lucid mattress 180 degrees as often as every few months for more even wear.
Who manufactures Lucid mattresses?
Lucid is owned by the retailer Linenspa and is primarily sold on Amazon.

Overall Summary
The Lucid Hybrid mattress is one of the most budget-friendly mattresses on the market. We especially love this bed for back and stomach sleepers under 230 pounds.
Side Sleepers
2/5
Most side sleepers will likely find this mattress to be too firm on their shoulder and hip. Some average-weight side sleepers who switch between their side and another position through the night, though, could feel comfortable on the Lucid Hybrid, but in general, we wouldn’t recommend this bed for side sleepers.
Back Sleepers
4/5
Average-weight back sleepers will probably get the most out of the Lucid Hybrid. Lightweight sleepers who love a firm-feeling bed will also appreciate it. However, those who weigh significantly more (over 300 pounds or so) will probably not get enough support from the Lucid Hybrid.
Stomach Sleepers
4/5
Stomach sleepers need a firm mattress to prevent their hips from sinking down into the bed, as this can cause spinal misalignment. This bed should be firm and pressure-relieving enough for light and average-weight stomach sleepers to feel comfortable. Heavyweight stomach sleepers will need something more supportive.
Combination Sleepers
4/5
The Lucid Hybrid is a good mattress for those who switch positions throughout the night. Even though the top layer is memory foam – a traditionally ‘sinking’ material – this layer is not soft enough that you’ll feel ‘stuck’ in this bed. This, plus the supportive innerspring coils will make it easier to reposition through the night.
Couples
4/5
Overall, the Lucid Hybrid is a good bed for couples. It has great edge support, so you’ll be able to use the entire surface of the bed. It has good motion isolation so you shouldn’t disturb each other, and it has a good amount of bounce for intimacy. The only drawback is that it’s not as cooling as other options.
Heavy Sleepers
3/5
Heavyweight sleepers under about 300 pounds should feel comfortable and supported on this bed while sleeping on their backs. However, it won’t be supportive enough for side and stomach sleeping. Those over 300 pounds should look for a more supportive bed, regardless of their sleep position.
Lightweight Sleepers
3/5
Sleepers under 130 pounds will certainly be supported by this bed, but may not feel comfortable, depending on their sleep position and firmness preferences. For example, lightweight side sleepers will likely find this bed too firm, but back and stomach sleepers who prefer a firm bed may love the Lucid Hybrid.
Average Weight Sleepers
4/5
The Lucid Hybrid will probably work the best for average-weight sleepers. While it may still feel too firm for most average-weight side sleepers, average-size stomach and back sleepers should feel a good amount of support and pressure relief. These sleepers will sink into the comfort layers just the right amount.
Overall Value
3/5
The Lucid Hybrid is one of the least expensive bed-in-a-box options currently on the market. Other budget options can cost over 1,000 dollars, but this one will cost less than 500 dollars, depending on the model you select. While the 10-year warranty is industry-standard, this mattress has a much shorter trial period of just 30 days.
Our Verdict
The Lucid Hybrid is a firmer hybrid mattress built with four foam layers on top of a coil innerspring unit. The brand also includes special cooling features like bamboo charcoal and aloe vera, though we think exceptionally hot sleepers should look at other options on the market.
If you prefer a firmer-feeling bed and are shopping on a budget, this might be your next mattress. We think this mattress should work especially well for average-weight back and stomach sleepers. Heavyweight sleepers will want something more supportive, while side sleepers will need a bed that’s softer against their hip and shoulder.
