Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress Performance Ratings
Watch Our Helix Midnight Luxe Video Review
Who We Recommend The Helix Midnight Luxe For
- Hot sleepers – “It won’t heat up in the way that an all-foam bed would.” said Emma, one of our mattress testers. The proprietary Premium Cooling Pillow Top contains breathable TENCEL™. Plus, the gel inside the comfort foam and individually pocketed coils should further enhance airflow and temperature regulation.
- People looking for a classic hybrid design – The Helix Midnight Luxe is a hybrid mattress with pocketed coils and four foam layers on top. We think this classic hybrid design has a medium feel that should fit back, side, and some stomach sleepers. “Helix has done a lot of innovation to help make a bed that fits most people.” according to Emma.
- Sleepers seeking advanced support and pressure relief – The Luxe line features zoned materials to provide firm support under the hips and a softer feel under lighter areas like the shoulders. We think these zoning measures do a good job of promoting proper spinal alignment and enhancing comfort.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Helix Midnight Luxe For:
- Heavy stomach sleepers – The pillow top on the Luxe models is made to cradle your shape for comfortable sleep and enhanced pressure-relieving properties. However, we think most heavyweight stomach sleepers may prefer a firmer mattress to prevent their hips from sinking in.
- Fans of the all-foam design – Helix Midnight Luxe is an upgraded version of the Helix Midnight mattress. However, both models are hybrids, and although they feature memory and other foam types, this bed has no all-foam version.
Customer Reviews of the Helix Midnight Luxe
On Helix’s website, the mattress scores 4.5 out of 5 stars. Customers appreciate the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress for its customized support but have reported that it may not be the best option for those who prefer an exceptionally soft sleep surface.
Testing the Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress: How it Performed
Several people from our team, including Liz, Emma, and Sean, tested the Midnight Luxe in several sleeping positions to evaluate how it performs for different sleepers. This helped us understand if this Helix would be a good match for side, back, and stomach sleepers, depending on how much they weigh. They also tested the bed for motion isolation, edge support, pressure relief, cooling, and support in general.
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
At Sleep Advisor, our mattress reviews are based on findings from in-person tests that allow us to have a genuine understanding of how the mattress feels and performs.
We then take all the information we’ve gathered to rate the bed in specific categories. These results allow us to help our readers find the right mattress for their needs.

First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6-7/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
The Helix Midnight Luxe is a hybrid rated 6-7 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which is a medium firmness that should fit most people. Sleepers looking for both pressure relief and support should get this from the Helix’s combination of foam layers sitting on top of the coil unit. We think the mattress is a good fit for lightweight and average-weight people, although even some heavier sleepers may like how it feels depending on their preferred sleeping position.
How Does It Feel?
“After trying it out, I mostly agree that it’s a medium feel. But the pillow top does make it a bit softer than, say, their standard version,” said Emma. The Helix Midnight Luxe offers plush support; the high-grade polyfoam, gel memory foam, and pillow top provide soft comfort to help you sleep easily.
Settling into the bed, you should feel contouring in your lumbar from the wrapped coils, while the plush pillow top and Memory Plus Foam relieve pressure on your shoulders. The team agrees that the Midnight Luxe’s coil system gives the sleeper a springy experience covered in plush luxury. As Emma said, “This bed, in my opinion, is as luxurious as the name implies.”
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to the Helix website, each mattress can support up to 1,000 pounds or 500 pounds per individual. You can rest peacefully knowing the Helix team meticulously tests these mattresses to ensure they are safe for these weight limits. We think this high weight limit is quite remarkable, making Helix a stand-out contender for larger bodies.
The fact that Helix can adequately support heavier bodies also points to the product’s longevity. In our opinion, knowing that this mattress can sustain significant weight indicates its superior quality and ability to stand the test of time.
Weight | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers (-130 lbs | ★★☆ | ★★★ | ★★★ |
Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 lbs) | ★★★ | ★★★ | ★★☆ |
Heavyweight Sleepers (+230 lbs) | ★★☆ | ★★☆ | ★☆☆ |
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think lightweight side sleepers should like the medium firmness of the Helix Midnight Luxe as it offers just enough cradling and pressure relief without taking away from the support needed to keep the spine aligned. However, some may find it too firm, in which case we’d recommend either a softer bed or adding a soft mattress topper.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Side sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds should have no problem activating the upper foam layers to get the best pressure relief from this Helix. Liz, who is an average-weight sleeper, said, “It was completely supportive while also cradling me.”
- Heavyweight Sleepers – This Helix is rated 6-7 out of 10, so it may be too soft for most heavyweight sleepers. However, those who prefer sleeping on their side may like its medium firmness that cushions the shoulders, hips, and knees to prevent pressure build-up.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should like how the Midnight Luxe cushions the body and supports the hips to prevent them from sinking too deeply into the foam layers. We found that the hybrid design provides excellent lumbar support and cradling, which is exactly what back sleepers need.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers may fall a bit deeper into the pillow top, but this just means a bit more pressure relief. We’d still say this bed excels in support, thanks to its 8-inch coils that help keep the spine aligned.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight sleepers who prefer sleeping on their back should find the Midnight Luxe softer than the other two groups. While we think the bed’s mid-range firmness should provide sufficient support in this position, those who need extra support should consider the brand’s Helix Plus model, which is designed specifically for larger sleepers.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think stomach sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds are likely the only group of stomach sleepers to get the most out of this Helix hybrid. The bed’s mid-range firmness should be just enough to support the hips in proper alignment.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight stomach sleepers weighing closer to 150 pounds should get sufficient support for the hips and shoulders, but this still depends on their preference. Emma, who is 140 pounds, said, “It doesn’t work quite as well for sleeping on my stomach.”
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight sleepers who prefer sleeping on their stomach are likely to find this Helix too soft to support their hips. In this case, we’d also recommend Helix Plus for this group.
Pressure Relief & Pain
4/5
When lying on the floor, you can quickly discover where your pressure points are on your body. Anywhere excess weight is pooled can create pressure, especially when you’re sleeping on your side, and all of your weight is settled on a more narrow surface area. Ideally, we’d say you want a bed that can accommodate your unique needs and relieve any discomfort due to excess pressure.
When Emma tested this bed, she said, “The pillow top adds just a bit more cushioning than the standard Midnight does.” According to the company’s website, the soft construction is designed to offer enhanced relief to side sleepers. The Midnight Luxe is intended to provide a universal medium firmness, so we think this product should also work well for most sleep types.
Is Helix Midnight Luxe Good for Pain Relief?
The Helix Midnight Luxe has zoned support, which we think is an excellent thing for people with pain. The zones are made to support the heaviest parts the most, so you can expect these areas to get firm support with minimal sinkage.
Back Pain
We think the Helix Midnight Luxe should provide a balance of support and pressure relief, both of which are crucial for people struggling with back pain. The foam layers cradle the lower back while the coil unit keeps the spine aligned for a healthy sleep posture.
Hip Pain
Hip pain can be tricky to fall asleep with, so it’s important to have a bed that helps alleviate the pressure, especially if you’re a side sleeper. The Helix Midnight has a plush Euro top to avoid pressure build-up, which we think should help alleviate existing pain.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain is another common issue sleepers struggle with. In our opinion, the Helix Midnight Luxe should help ease this pain by cushioning the shoulders without letting them sink too deeply to throw the spine off alignment.
Check out our best mattresses for back pain and our top picks for the best mattress for hip and shoulder pain.
Support
5/5
You should notice a gentle cradle as you sink into the pillow top cover. Once the comfort foams become activated, the zoned construction of this product should allow some body parts to sink slightly while firmly supporting others where support is needed most; this should provide a neutral spine and enhanced pressure relief. As Emma said, “The zoned support also seems to help with my overall alignment.”
This bed should provide enough bounce in the deeper latex and foam material to allow you to readjust freely, making this product a good fit for combination sleepers or anyone who doesn’t like to feel “stuck” in their mattress. We think back sleepers should enjoy solid lumbar support as well, helping maintain a neutral spine
Motion Transfer
4/5
There should be minimal motion transfer present in this product compared to most bed-in-a-box hybrid models. If you look at our video review, you’ll see how Emma tests this using a water bottle. The dense materials should absorb vibration and help dampen the movement that may travel through the coil system. As a result, Emma shared, “This is an excellent choice for couples.”
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
5/5
We think Helix is a good cooling mattress for hot sleepers as it has a hybrid construction that allows maximum airflow. The coils let the air circulate, which helps prevent the foam layers from overheating. In addition, the bed has a pillow top with TENCEL™ and copper gel memory foam that helps keep the surface of the bed cool.
Bounce
3/5
Although this bed has a plush Euro top and foam in its comfort layers, it also has coils that help provide some bounce. We think there’s a nice level of bounce that creates a bed that should fit most people. In other words, it’s not too bouncy to create too much motion transfer, but it’s also not too slow-moving to make you feel stuck.
Edge Support
5/5
“Edge support really shouldn’t be a big issue”, Emma noted. This Helix has reinforced edges all around, so you can expect the same level of support on either side. Although you may notice a bit more sinkage than in the center of the bed, this shouldn’t worry you.
The coils do an excellent job of keeping you secure, so we don’t think anyone would feel like they’re sliding off the Helix Midnight Luxe.
Performance for Couples
4/5
Couples should like how the Midnight Luxe performs in terms of motion isolation, edge support, and bounce, all of which are important factors to consider. This hybrid has pocketed coils that move independently, which we think helps prevent motion from transferring from one side of the bed to the other. In addition, the foam layers on top of the coil unit help dampen movements even more. Additionally, our team loves the edge support on this one, as the bed’s reinforced perimeter allows couples to use the entire surface of the bed without feeling like they could roll off the edges.

Preference-based Features
Pillow Top
This hybrid features a Premium Cooling Pillow Top that allows excellent temperature regulation in addition to cushioning and gentle cradling that makes it fit such a wide range of sleepers.
Excellent Support
We think the Helix Midnight Luxe should deliver good spine alignment for most sleepers. The support from the coils will help ensure the heavier body parts don’t sink too much, which throws off the alignment and leads to back pain. While most light and average-sized individuals should feel supported by the bed’s medium-firm feel, we think heavier individuals will likely need something more firm to keep their spine well-aligned.
Durability
You can expect quality and durability with the Midnight Luxe. This upgraded mattress features premium materials and is backed up by impressive trial and warranty deals. This bed comes with a 100-night trial, and the Luxe’s warranty is 5 years longer than its standard counterpart. In our opinion, the longer warranty means this bed should hold up well over the years.
Adjustable Base Compatible
The Midnight Luxe is compatible with adjustable bases. We think this is a great advantage for people who can benefit from these types of foundations, such as those who snore frequently or need to improve their circulation. If you’re looking to purchase a new base, we’d suggest the Helix Adjustable Base.
Construction: What’s Inside the Helix Midnight Luxe?
This is a bed-in-a-box hybrid using coils and foam. Additionally, the foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified, ensuring the product meets strict health and safety standards. The bed can be used on any solid surface, including adjustable frames, the floor, and bases with slats no more than 5 inches apart. Proprietary foundations, frames, and adjustable bases are available through their website.
The cool and plush pillow top contains breathable TENCEL™ and should allow a luxurious feel and temperature regulation. Each Luxe mattress is 13.5 inches in height.
- The pillow top contains copper gel memory foam to promote soothing pressure relief and a cooler surface.
- The support layer contains Memory Plus Foam. This is a 2-inch material that is designed to adapt to your body weight to provide personalized relief and support.
- The transition layer is a high-grade poly foam that should provide a comfortable transition between the comfort and support materials.
- The innerspring unit is comprised of 1000+ individually wrapped coils standing at 8 inches in height. These individually pocketed coils are zoned to provide support or pressure relief where your body needs it most. We experienced our shoulders sinking gently with the hips more firmly supported to promote proper spinal alignment.
- The base layer is a DuraDense Foam that should provide stability to the overall sleep system and help to absorb motion from the coil system above.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
This Helix mattress comes compressed, rolled, and packaged in a box for easy shipping. We love this as it makes it easier to move from your doorstep to the bedroom, although you may need an extra pair of hands because the box can be heavy, depending on the bed size you choose.
Once you unpack it, you should allow it at least 24 hours to decompress and reach its full size. We noticed some off-gassing, but this is due to how the mattress is shipped. However, the off-gassing smells should dissipate by the time the mattress decompresses and is ready for use.
Certifications
- Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions. This mattress also has a GREENGUARD Gold certification to ensure it meets strict health and safety standards for low chemical emissions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Helix Midnight Luxe too soft?
We think the Helix Midnight Luxe has a medium firmness that falls at a 6-7 on our firmness scale. This mid-range firmness should fit different sleeping positions, body weights, and shapes, making the Midnight Luxe a mattress we think is suitable for many people. That being said, this bed may be too soft for heavier sleepers and some average-size stomach sleepers.
Is the Helix Luxe worth the extra money?
Although the Helix Luxe collection is on the more costly side, this is due to the premium materials, excellent craftsmanship, and durability representative of this brand. Plus, the Luxe collection is an upgrade from the regular Helix mattresses, delivering even better cooling, support, and pressure relief. As Emma put it, “If you’ve got the extra cash to spend, and you want enhanced support, cushioning up top, and cooling, then the Luxe is worth it.”
What is the difference between the Helix Midnight and the Helix Midnight Luxe?
The Helix Midnight Luxe is an upgrade of the Helix Midnight. The Luxe version of this mattress is taller, has more coils, and has 4-sided edge support, whereas the Standard version has two-sided reinforcement.
Will the Helix Midnight Luxe sag?
We think the Helix Midnight Luxe is a durable mattress that should maintain its structure for years to come. The bed has a sturdy base layer under the coil unit that helps keep the upper layers from sagging, so you shouldn’t notice wear and tear for 7 to 10 years.

Our Verdict
We highly recommend this mattress for hot sleepers looking to stay cool through warm nights. From the cooling pillow top and copper gel memory foam to the airflow from the coils, hot sleepers should feel plenty comfortable with this mattress. In addition, the mattress employs superior motion isolation, making it an excellent choice for those frequently disturbed by a fidgety partner.
Back sleepers should be well supported by the coils while still receiving quality pressure relief from multiple memory foam layers. Lastly, we think combination sleepers should enjoy the universal medium comfort feel and the buoyancy of the coils for easy repositioning. Overall, we gave this bed a 4.3 out of 5.
