In this Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® bed review, we’ll talk honestly about the pros and cons of this mattress, so you can decide if this is the bed for you.

Tempur-Pedic is one of the original names in memory foam. In fact, their science-backed material was originally based off of a NASA seat material so cushiony that it would increase survivability in the event of an accident. That is some seriously pressure-relieving material.

However, the main problem with memory foam is that it typically sleeps hot. Fortunately, Tempur-Pedic has developed the LuxeBreeze®, which not only provides pressure relief but is designed to be up to 10 degrees cooler.

In this review, I’ll be looking at the Medium Hybrid version of the LuxeBreeze®. I’ll talk honestly about the pros and cons, so you can decide if this is the bed for you.

Who I Recommend The LuxeBreeze® For:

• Hot sleepers – I didn’t test the temperature of the mattress, but it truly does feel like it cools by about 10 degrees, as advertised on the website. In fact, the longer I lay on the bed, the cooler it felt like it got – excellent news for hot sleepers.
• Sleepers with joint pain – Tempur-Pedic’s pressure-relieving technology does not fail to deliver in this mattress. This makes it an excellent choice for those with joint pain, injuries, arthritis, or other sensitivities.
• Luxury shoppers – The LuxeBreeze® is expensive, costing a minimum of 5,000 dollars. However, if you can afford it, it should be worth it as it is truly a quality mattress.

Who I Don’t Recommend The LuxeBreeze® For:

• Shoppers on a budget – As mentioned, this bed comes with a higher price tag that may be out of budget for many shoppers. If you are looking for a more affordable, but still high-quality mattress, our list of the top cooling beds can give you more options.
• Sleepers who want some bounce – If you are used to the bounce of an innerspring mattress, memory foam may be a hard material to get used to. Even though I tested the Hybrid model, there was still no bounce in this mattress. If you prefer a cooling bed with a good amount of bounce, I’d recommend an innerspring mattress instead.

First Impressions: Firmness & Feel”

Firmness Scale: 6/10 (Medium Firm)

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.

On a mattress firmness scale from 1 to 10 in which 10 is the firmest, I’m giving this mattress a 6. The mattress is unique in that it is adaptive and heat-absorbing, so when I first lay down on it, it felt firmer; more like an 8. As I continued to lie there and the mattress absorbed heat, it softened to a 6.

Keep in mind, I have an average body weight. For lighter-weight sleepers, I believe this mattress will feel firmer, and for heavyweight sleepers, it is a medium feel and may even be too soft.

How Does It Feel?

As I mentioned, this bed has a unique feel when you first lie down on it. It starts out feeling firmer and then gradually it softens while getting noticeably cooler. The foam is pliable and conforms to the body’s curves, and it takes a moment for it to bounce back into shape when moving positions or getting up from the bed.

What I Like About the LuxeBreeze®

• Minimizes heat – The LuxeBreeze® claims to reduce heat by up to 10 degrees, and it does feel like it succeeds. The heat vanishes as you lie on the bed.
• Relieves pressure – This bed removes any pressure under key areas like the hips and shoulders.
• Free white-glove delivery – This luxurious mattress comes with free white-glove delivery. This includes mattress setup, the removal of any packaging, and the removal of your old mattress and boxsprings.

My LuxeBreeze® Complaints

• It’s expensive – The LuxeBreeze® I reviewed costs upwards of 5,000 dollars, which may be out of peoples’ price ranges.
• The firmness options can be confusing – There are several models and firmness options for the TEMPUR-Breeze, which is a little bit confusing when placing your order.
• It’s not immediately responsive – The LuxeBreeze® can take some time to bounce back to its original shape when you lie down, so if you want something very responsive, this might not work for you.

Testing the LuxeBreeze® Mattress: How it Performed

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

According to Tempur-Pedic, their mattresses don’t have a weight limit. They note, however, that their foundations and adjustable bases have weight limits. For smaller foundations, the weight limit is 400 pounds, and for Queen-size and up, the weight capacity is 800 pounds. Their adjustable bases can support up to 650 pounds, including the mattress.

Side Sleepers

• Lightweight Sleepers – For lightweight side sleepers, the cushioning should feel fine but is on the firmer side. This will be especially true before the foam is “activated” with weight and heat on the surface.
• Average Weight Sleepers – This is a good fit for average-weight side sleepers. You shouldn’t feel like your spine is sinking and everything is aligned and softly pressing into the mattress.
• Heavyweight Sleepers – There is a lot of sinkage for heavyweight side sleepers, but if you like a soft-feeling bed, it shouldn’t be too much.

Back Sleepers

• Lightweight Sleepers – The lumbar area feels protected against sinking and misalignment for lightweight sleepers in this position. It’s especially good for pressure relief around the hips and shoulders.
• Average Weight Sleepers – There isn’t as much sink in this position as there is while sleeping on the side, but it still feels comfortable and supportive.
• Heavyweight Sleepers – This bed distributes weight well enough to be comfortable for heavyweight back sleepers who prefer a soft-feeling mattress.

Stomach Sleepers

• Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should feel a good amount of lumbar support and pressure relief on this slower-moving foam mattress.
• Average Weight Sleepers – This bed will work well for most average-weight stomach sleepers, though there is a bit of curving in the lower back as it’s slightly too soft under the hips.
• Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight stomach sleepers likely won’t feel supported enough on this mattress, as it seems to grow softer as it cools the body.

Pressure Relief & Pain

The Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® feels pliable under key pressure points like the hips and shoulders. When I was on my side, I could feel my shoulder and hip sinking comfortably into the mattress, but not so much that it compromised my spine’s alignment or made me feel “stuck.” On both my stomach and my back, my weight felt evenly distributed and supported, so I couldn’t feel any pressure building up.

Is the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® Good for Pain Relief?

In general, Tempur-Pedic beds are highly recommended for pain relief as this high-quality memory foam hugs the body and removes pressure from injured or sore parts of the body. The LuxeBreeze® offers this same excellent pressure relief but with the bonus of cooling technology, which might help further relieve pain from sore spots.

Back Pain – The LuxeBreeze® Hybrid that I tested should do a good job of relieving back pain for sleepers of any body type when sleeping on their backs or sides. On the stomach, however, the bed might be a little bit too soft for heavyweight sleepers, which could add to back pain.

Hip Pain – Hip pain is often caused by the hips dipping down into a too-soft mattress when stomach sleeping, or not feeling cushioned enough on a too-firm mattress when side sleeping. This mattress does a good job relieving hip pain in both positions for most body types, though heavyweight stomach sleepers may want something slightly firmer if dealing with hip pain.

Shoulder Pain – Oftentimes shoulder pain is caused by side-sleeping on a mattress that is too firm. Fortunately, this mattress should work well for most body types, absorbing pressure around the shoulder. Lightweight side sleepers may want to opt for the soft model, but most others should do well on the medium-firm mattress.

Support

When lying on this bed, I feel like my spine is in perfect alignment in most positions. On my side, there’s no feeling of slipping or uncomfortable angles. On my back, I felt completely supported; my spine was still lifted, but the sinking and cushioning felt amazing. On my stomach, I felt comfortable for the most part, but after a while, I could feel my hips starting to sink in, though not to a degree that my spine felt out of alignment.

For heavyweight sleepers, this bed should still be supportive, but you’ll definitely feel more like you’re sinking into it.

Motion Isolation

Temperature Regulation / Cooling”

This bed gets the highest score for its cooling abilities. It is very cool to touch, and I could feel the heat dissipating just seconds after lying down. I did test this mattress without sheets, but I am sure this level of cooling would be felt through the sheets – a perfect quality for those who sleep hot.

Bounce

This hybrid bed doesn’t have the bouncy quality that innerspring mattresses or some other hybrids do, as it mostly feels like memory foam. The foam itself is not as responsive as some other foams; it takes it a second to respond and bounce back into shape, especially as the foam is “activated” and has been made more pliable. At first, it feels firm but it does not stay that way for long.

Edge Support

Edge support is an important quality, ensuring that you can use the full surface of the bed without the edges sinking down under your weight. Lying down on this bed, there was no movement or sinking beneath my weight whatsoever, even to the very edge of the mattress. Sitting on the edge of the bed, there was more sinking. That said, it still feels very easy to get in and out of the bed.

Performance for Couples

Typically, couples who share a bed look for a few important qualities: motion isolation, cooling, bounce, and edge support. The LuxeBreeze® excels with motion isolation, cooling, and edge support, meaning couples should not disturb each other through the night, they shouldn’t overheat, and they should be able to use the entire surface of the bed. However, this mattress doesn’t have a lot of bounce, which may be preferable for some sexually-active couples.

The TEMPUR-Breeze collection is customizable. You can select between the ProBreeze®or the LuxeBreeze®, and from there, you can choose between all-foam or hybrid, and between a variety of firmness options and mattress sizes.

This bed’s price includes white-glove delivery. This means Tempur-Pedic will not only deliver this bed, but will unpackage it, set it up in your preferred room, remove any packaging, and even remove your old mattress and box springs if you’d like.

Construction: What’s Inside the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze®?

The construction of your Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® will depend on the firmness level you choose. What I mean is, if you order a Soft or Firm model, you’ll be ordering a regular, non-hybrid bed. However, if you want a bed with a medium firmness, it will be a hybrid, meaning, it will include not just foam, but a layer of innerspring coils as well.

This review focuses on the Medium Hybrid LuxeBreeze® because that’s what I tested, so the construction details below will be for that particular mattress.

The Medium Hybrid LuxeBreeze® is 13 inches tall and includes several layers for comfort, cooling, and support.

• The top layer is made of Tempur’s Pure Cool® Plus Material. This is an enhanced version of their exclusive cooling material that pulls heat away from the body and is designed to lower the mattress’s temperature by up to 10 degrees.
• Below that is a layer of Hybrid Material. This foam transition layer is one of two layers separating the top, cooling layer from the coils beneath. It provides easier movement and enhanced edge support.
• Moving further down you’ll find the Ventilated Advanced Relief™ Material. This unit is made to relieve pressure and has added ventilation for increased airflow.
• The bottom layer is made up of over 1,300 double-stacked innerspring coils to provide you with extra support and airflow, compared to their all-foam model.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

The Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® arrives fully expanded, so there wasn’t any chemical, off-gassing smell that I noticed. I also didn’t have to deal with unboxing, as this bed comes with free white-glove delivery.

Certifications

• CertiPUR-US® certified: The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

What is the difference between the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® and ProBreeze®?

These two mattresses are similar, but the LuxeBreeze® is designed to sleep up to 10 degrees cooler, whereas the ProBreeze® is designed to sleep 5 degrees cooler. The LuxeBreeze® is also slightly taller at 13 inches, while the ProBreeze® is 12 inches tall. Finally, the ProBreeze® comes with just one firmness option (Medium), but with the LuxeBreeze®, you can choose between Soft, Medium Hybrid, and Firm.

Can you flip a Tempur-Pedic mattress?

No, Tempur-Pedic mattresses are not designed to be flipped over. You can, however, rotate your mattress if you’d like to allow for more even use.

My Verdict

The Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze is an excellent choice for those who sleep hot at night and who can afford this luxury mattress. The cooling is top-notch; I could actually feel it working to dissipate heat as I lay there.

The Medium Hybrid model that I tested was a good fit for light to heavyweight sleepers, though plus-size stomach sleepers may not get enough support as it softens over time.

Though this mattress works well in most positions, I don’t think it would work as well for combination sleepers who move between positions through the night, as this foam takes a solid second to react. I give this bed an overall 4 out of 5 score.
