The DreamCloud and the Avocado are both high-quality foam and coil hybrid mattresses, though there are also unique differences between them. The DreamCloud is made of gel-infused memory foam and individually-wrapped coils for a comfortable and well-supported memory foam experience. The Avocado, on the other hand, is made of latex rubber foam and individually-pocketed coils, offering an eco-friendly approach to a slightly firmer foam hybrid.

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

Mattress firmness reflects how soft or firm the bed feels, and we rate this on a 1-10 scale, with 1 being the absolute softest. The DreamCloud rates 5.5 on the firmness scale, and the Avocado rates a bit firmer, at 6.5.

For those who prefer a softer feel, the deep, plush hug offered by the DreamCloud mattress may be a good fit. Other sleepers who prefer a firmer feel may be interested in the gentle cradle of the Avocado mattress.

Support

The DreamCloud and Avocado both use steel coil support units, which offer robust support for most sleepers. The transitional and comfort layers also help to maintain body alignment throughout the night. While the DreamCloud has more plush comfort layers, the Avocado uses Dunlop latex at the top, which is a firmer latex foam.

The softer feel of the DreamCloud will likely provide better support to lighter-weight people, whereas those carrying more weight should find better support on the Avocado.

Feel

The DreamCloud feels like a deep plush hug, with the foams easing you into the foam layers further below. The bed’s pillow top should provide sufficient plushness on the surface. However, heavier individuals or stomach sleepers may find the DreamCloud too soft.

The Avocado is a firmer bed, feeling more like a gentle cradle rather than a deep hug. The Avocado is also bouncier, which helps with mobility. Heavier individuals should be more comfortable on the Avocado, especially if they sleep on their back or side.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

The DreamCloud and Avocado mattresses differ greatly in this category. The DreamCloud has a lot of sinkage because it is softer and uses memory foam. This sinkage may cause the DreamCloud to be uncomfortable for sleepers carrying more weight, as they’ll sink further into the mattress than a lighter sleeper.

The Dreamcloud also has little to no bounce. Those with lower mobility may prefer the Avocado, which has far less sinkage and more bounce. The responsiveness of the Avocado mattress can aid mobility, and with minimal sinkage, you are less likely to feel stuck.

Comparing Motion Transfer

The DreamCloud and the Avocado both have decent motion isolation, which means that co-sleepers should not feel each other tossing and turning during the night. Motion isolation is essential for those who sleep with a partner or pets or have children climbing in and out of bed.

Both hybrid mattresses are made of foam and individually-wrapped coils, with the intent to minimize motion transfer. Between these two mattresses, however, the DreamCloud should outperform the Avocado at minimizing motion transfer due to its materials. The Avocado uses latex foam, which is more bouncy and therefore, will cause more motion transfer than the memory foam in the DreamCloud.

Comparing Cooling

Both mattresses rely on breathable covers and the excellent airflow of coil bases to minimize heat-trapping. However, DreamCloud and Avocado each take extra steps to make hot sleepers a bit more comfortable.

The DreamCloud adds gel to its memory foam layer for cooling, which helps combat the heat-trapping nature of memory foam. The Avocado uses latex foam and wool, which are naturally heat-resistant. Avocado also aerates the latex foam to ensure it stays as cool as possible. However, if you opt for the vegan version of the Avocado mattress, there won’t be any wool in the construction.

DreamCloud Construction

The DreamCloud is a 14-inch memory foam hybrid mattress with a steel coil base. It features a soft quilted cashmere cover with durable stitching and a lovely cloud pattern. Stitched to the bottom of the cover is plush soft foam for a cloudlike feel. The base features a shift-resistant cover with four handles.

• The top is 1.5 inches of soft foam stitched into the quilted cashmere cover.
• The second layer is 1 inch of gel-infused memory foam for plush comfort and pressure relief. The gel in the memory foam allows for better cooling than traditional memory foam.
• The center of the mattress features 2 inches of a firmer standard foam to help ease the transition between the plush upper layers and the solid coil base.
• The innerspring unit is 8.5 inches of individually-wrapped steel coils for support.
• The base is 1 inch of standard foam, intended to serve as a stability layer.

Avocado Construction

The Avocado can be 11 or 13 inches, depending on the chosen cover. The standard cover offered by Avocado covers the mattress and does not add height.

For a softer feel, shoppers can choose an attached European-style pillow top mattress topper. The pillow-top option adds 2 inches of GOLS-certified latex rubber foam to the top of the mattress.

• Below the cover is 2 inches of GOLS-certified 100 percent Dunlop latex, which is sustainably sourced and processed without additional chemicals. This layer is also heat-resistant and aerated to increase airflow, which should help with cooling.
• The center is 8 inches of individually pocketed, upcycled steel coils. The coils vary in thickness and are organized into zones intended for optimal support in specific areas.
• The bottom is 1 inch of a denser Dunlop latex for stability and extra support. There are also more coils along the bottom edges for improved edge support.

• Warranty – DreamCloud offers a lifetime warranty that covers any manufacturing flaws or defects. Avocado provides a 25-year warranty, with the warranty being limited and prorated after 10 years.
• Shipping – Both mattresses offer free shipping within the contiguous United States. Avocado also provides in-home delivery for an extra fee, limited to the contiguous United States.
• Trial Period – Both the DreamCloud and the Avocado offer a 365-night trial period, in which you can try out the mattress risk-free. If you do not like the mattress, you can return it before the end of the trial period.
• Returns – Both mattress companies ask that you try the mattress for at least 30 days before returning it to give the mattress time to settle in and contour to your body. The DreamCloud also offers free returns within the contiguous United States.
• Price – The Avocado is the more expensive mattress of the two, with at least a 600-dollar price difference that goes up as the mattress size increases.
