Why the Saatva Classic Earned Editor’s Pick
Our team loved the Saatva Classic’s variety of firmness levels, soothing comfort layers, and dual coil units. Many mattresses that are purchased online are compressed, rolled, and then shipped in a box. However, you will receive complimentary white glove delivery with your purchase of the Saatva Classic. This means that your mattress arrives Full-size and is set up in your bedroom by professionals. Saatva will even haul your old bed away for free.
Another reason that our staff chose this mattress is because of how the company has taken traditional innerspring mattresses and given them luxurious upgrades such as a coil-on-coil design, soothing comfort materials, and multiple layers that provide a taller silhouette. Our lead tester, Julia, states that the Saatva gave her a Goldilocks-like experience by achieving a “just right” blend of comfort and support.
What’s the Saatva Classic Made Of?
The Saatva Classic starts with a pillowy-soft 3-inch Euro top that is covered with naturally breathable cotton treated with microbial properties. This soft, quilted cover is stitched into a 1.25-inch layer of pressure-relieving foam that forms the bed’s Euro top.
Below the Euro top, you’ll find a unique Saatva feature known as the Lumbar Zone®. This is found on the center third of the mattress and was designed to relieve back tension, and it has a markedly different feel from the rest of the bed.
The first of two sets of recycled steel coils is revealed under the foam transition layer. These coils are individually wrapped, which helps cradle the curves of the body and isolate motion. The second set of interconnected hourglass-shaped coils prevents sagging and boosts support while allowing air to circulate freely.
The Saatva Classic is available in Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm comfort levels, and you can choose from 11.5 or 14.5-inch tall profiles.
What We Liked
- Durability – The high-quality materials used in the construction are durable, and Saatva backs this up with their lifetime warranty. We think that even though this mattress may be slightly more expensive than others, it is worth it because of how well-built it is.
- White glove delivery – You will receive complimentary white glove delivery with your Saatva Classic purchase. This means that your mattress will arrive at its complete size and professionals will set it up for you and even haul away your old mattress.
- Excellent for back pain relief – Our reviewer, Stuart, also tried out the Saatva and was a big fan of this bed’s lumbar support. Saatva utilizes Lumbar Zone® Technology that provides spinal alignment and pressure relief around the lower back.
Potential Drawbacks
- Lacks motion isolation – If you co-sleep, you may find that the Saatva Classic has less than stellar motion isolation. This means that the movements from your partner or pet may transfer to your side of the bed. Stuart noted, “If you need a lot of motion absorption or more of a cradling feel, this might not be the bed for you.”
- The price – Although we think that the quality of materials and extra features are well worth the price, this bed may be outside of some budgets. While you will get a full year to try out this product, the company does charge a return fee if you decide not to keep it.
Customer Reviews on the Saatva Classic
The Saatva Classic rates 4.8 stars out of 5 on Saatva’s website. One negative aspect customers found with the Saatva Classic mattress is that it may feel too firm for some users, while a notable advantage is its high-quality materials, providing durability and support.

Why the Helix Kids Earned Best Full-Size Mattress for Kids
Kids need to get quality sleep and lots of it. Helix recognized this fact and designed a mattress specifically for them. We were very drawn to this mattress because of its flippable design that offers two firmness levels. This helps it work for many ages, weights, and preferred sleep positions. This bed also keeps its target audience in mind by including a water-repellant cover with an antimicrobial coating.
We love that Helix built two different firmness levels into one mattress with their Kids model. The firmer side is recommended for kids aged 3-7, with the softer side being for those 8-12 years old. We also like that there are temperature-regulating properties that will help keep kids cool throughout the night for better sleep.
What’s the Helix Kids Mattress Made Of?
This mattress has a low 8-inch profile, which makes it easier for kids to get in and out of bed. The mattress has a soft, breathable, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic TENCEL© cover. Considering that kids still have nighttime accidents, it has been given a water-repellent and antimicrobial finish.
Given that the mattress is flippable and has different firmness levels, we will break down both sides. On the firm side, there is a thin layer of high-grade poly foam that provides ample support. The softer side of the mattress contains a layer of plush gel memory foam that provides cooling elements and pressure relief, which will be necessary as kids weigh more.
The middle layer consists of 5-inch individually wrapped coils, and it will remain the same if the bed is being used on the soft or firm side. Our team thought that the extra support around the edges was a standout feature for a bed designed for kids. This provides an extra level of security for young sleepers and makes them less likely to roll out of bed.
What We Liked
- Dual-sided design – This bed is flippable and has two firmness levels, one on each side. The firmer side is for younger children, while the plusher side will serve older children better.
- Cooling features – We love that Helix understands that kids can sleep hot too and have added cooling features to this mattress. These include the TENCEL© cover, the coils that promote air circulation, and the gel memory foam.
- Edge support – The perimeter of the mattress is reinforced for excellent edge support. This is great for restless kids who may roll around during the night because it will provide added security.
Potential Drawbacks
- Weaker motion isolation – The coils make this bed fairly bouncy. While this is great for repositioning, it also lends to weaker motion isolation, which means movements are more likely to travel across the mattress and be disruptive to co-sleepers. Most children will have the mattress to themselves, but if they sleep beside a sibling or pet, this could be an issue.
- Not for heavyweight kids – This bed is likely not supportive enough for kids who weigh more. Even on the firmer side, there is a chance that they will sink too fast through the layers. In this case, a standard mattress would be better.
Customer Reviews of the Helix Kids
On the Helix website, this mattress is rated 4.3 out of 5 stars. The Helix Kids mattress provides customizable comfort for young customers, but some customers may find the initial setup process slightly complex.

Why the WinkBed Earned the Best Full-Size Hybrid Mattress
The WinkBed is a hybrid model loaded with attributes such as the 3-Step Back-Relief System™ for spinal alignment and pressure relief and the LumbarLayer™ for targeted back support. Additionally, the pocketed coils are zoned to give you extra support where needed, while cooling properties, such as gel-infused foam, help keep sleepers cool.
Our testers said that the WinkBed is a good choice for stomach sleepers because it keeps their hips elevated and their spines aligned. They felt well-supported and comfortable when sleeping in this position. If you are in the market for a Full-sized hybrid, we feel that the WinkBed’s versatility and dedication to support and pressure relief, as well as its handcrafted touches, make this an ideal option.
What’s the WinkBed Made Of?
The WinkBed is approximately 13.5 inches tall, but the exact height may vary slightly because they are individually handcrafted. Cooling Tencel© is used to cover the bed’s multiple layers. Directly below the cover, sleepers will be greeted by a plush 2-inch Euro-style pillow top that helps regulate body temperature by using gel-infused foam. This layer can also help keep pressure from building up around sensitive points.
There are multiple firmness options, and the one you choose will alter the specifications slightly. We will break down the construction of the Luxury Firm.
With this model, 8-inch individually wrapped coils make up the support layer. This innerspring unit is also zoned to provide additional bolstering in areas where body weight can cause increased pressure. The Extra-Edge™ Support is a system of coils that are used around the perimeter of the bed. These perimeter coils allow sleepers to utilize the entire surface and can aid in getting you in and out of bed.
What We Liked
- Plush and supportive – Our mattress testers enjoyed that the WinkBed offers both comforting softness and targeted lumbar support. This makes for an enhanced sleep space and quality product.
- Cooling technologies – This mattress utilizes cooling Tencel©, as well as gel-infused foam to help keep sleepers cool. Additionally, the coils allow for air flow which can also keep heat from building up.
- Versatility – WinkBed offers several firmness options that help sleepers pinpoint the kind of bed that will work best for them. Depending on your body type and preferred sleep position, you can pick from Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm, and Plus. The Plus model is specifically intended for heavyweight sleepers.
Potential Drawbacks
- Lacks cradling – Our testers found that many people are likely to feel that they are floating on top of this mattress rather than being cradled by it. Those expecting the contouring nature of memory foam may not like the lack of it.
- Motion transfer – As this is a hybrid, you may experience some motion transfer with this mattress, though it should be minimal. However, if you’re a very light sleeper, an all-foam memory bed might be better.
Customer Reviews of the WinkBed
On the WinkBeds site, the WinkBed earns a 4.8 out of 5 stars. One drawback of the WinkBed mattress is that it might be too expensive for budget-conscious shoppers, but overall it offers excellent durability and customizable firmness options.

Why the Nectar Earned Best Cheap Full-Size Mattress
Nectar is dedicated to providing an affordable, durable, and comfortable all-foam mattress. Our lead reviewer, Julia, stated that the Nectar mattress gets “the gold” when it comes to value. The Sleep Advisor review team is a big fan of Nectar’s lifetime warranty and substantial sleep trial. Therefore, not only does it come in at a budget-friendly price, but it also gives you plenty of peace of mind when purchasing it.
In addition to its budget-friendly price point, this bed also offers excellent pressure relief. If you experience pressure buildup around areas that come into contact with the mattress, the Nectar can be an excellent choice. Furthermore, it can be a great option for co-sleepers because its all-foam construction makes it a standout at isolating motion. Therefore, if you sleep with a restless partner or pup, their nightly fidgeting isn’t as likely to bother you if you’re nestled into the Nectar.
What’s the Nectar Made Of?
The Nectar’s 12-inch profile is made up of three foam layers that are surrounded by top and bottom covers. The top cover uses polyethylene fibers that help prevent heat buildup. Under this cover, you’ll find 2 inches of gel-infused memory foam that helps keep you cool as it contours around the neck, shoulders, and hips.
The next layer is 3 inches of responsive foam that is designed to support your spine, as well as provide responsiveness that will help you reposition easily. This middle layer creates a transition between the soft comfort layer and the sturdy base layer that consists of 7 inches of ActiveSupport foam. Finally, the shift-resistant lower cover helps the thicker layers stay aligned when you’re sleeping on it.
What We Liked
- Budget-friendly price point – The Nectar uses durable quality materials that will support and comfort you like more expensive competitors.
- Great policies – Not only does Nectar provide affordable mattresses, but they also have policies that Julia described as some of the best in the industry.
- Pressure relief capabilities – The all-foam layers of this mattress cradle and contour sleepers in a variety of positions. Julia stated, “With the topmost foam layers made for pressure relief and responsiveness, I really like how this molds around the body.”
Potential Drawbacks
- Substantial sinkage for stomach sleepers – Those who prefer to sleep on their stomach likely won’t experience enough support for their hips when sleeping on the Nectar. When Julia rested on her stomach, she felt that her lower back was dipping too far down. “Unfortunately, it’s just not going to cut it for stomach sleepers,” she said.
- Not great at temperature regulation – Although Nectar has implemented cooling technologies such as infusing the foam with gel, we still didn’t find it particularly cool.
Customer Reviews of the Nectar
With thousands of reviews on Nectar’s website, the Nectar mattress has an average 4.8 out of 5 stars. One common customer complaint about the Nectar mattress is its longer-than-average break-in period, while many customers praise its excellent value and comfort once fully settled.

Why the DreamCloud Earned Best Full-Size Mattress for Couples
Space or budgetary constraints may keep some couples from purchasing a Queen or King-size bed. Therefore, they will want to find a Full-size mattress that will allow both partners to get a good night’s rest.
To keep your relationship harmonious, we highly recommend the DreamCloud. We think this medium-firm hybrid mattress is a solid choice for couples as it offers support, motion isolation, and cooling technologies.
DreamCloud’s versatile medium-firmness is appealing to many different sleepers, and it also provides good spinal support and pressure relief. Further, this bed has excellent motion isolation that should do a solid job of preventing nocturnal movements from transferring across the bed. The coil unit is responsive and bouncy, which can be beneficial for sexually active couples. Additionally, DreamCloud’s cooling properties make it a great option to keep both partners from overheating.
What’s the DreamCloud Made Of?
The DreamCloud consists of a luxurious cover that is made with cashmere for an incredibly soft feel, and underneath this cover, you’ll find five layers that add up to a total height of 14 inches.
The first layer is made of 1.5 inches of soft poly foam that will provide couples with gentle cushioning. Directly below the poly foam, you’ll find a 1-inch layer of gel-infused memory foam that will help keep both sleepers cool. This is followed by a firmer 2-inch layer of transition foam that will ease you into DreamCloud’s innerspring unit, which consists of 8.5-inch high coils that are reinforced along the edges. All of these layers are supported by a base layer of 1-inch dense foam.
What We Liked
- Good motion absorption – Motion isolation can be an important feature for couples, and the DreamCloud does an excellent job at this. Our reviewers, Julia and Stuart were both impressed by how the DreamCloud prevented motion from transferring from one side of the bed to the other.
- Low price for a hybrid– The DreamCloud hybrid has many luxurious features, but we think couples who want a hybrid will appreciate that even with all that it offers, it shouldn’t break the bank. “Honestly, for how well-rounded this bed is, I’m surprised it doesn’t cost more,” Julia noted.
- Versatility and support – Julia was blown away by how supportive and versatile the DreamCloud is. She said that she felt equally supported when sleeping on her back, side, and stomach.
Potential Drawbacks
- Lack of edge support – Considering that couples sleeping on a Full-size bed may need to utilize the whole surface, they may be disappointed with the DreamCloud’s edge support. “DreamCloud is a bit lackluster on the edges. People who want to take advantage of the entire surface of the bed won’t be super excited about this one,” said Stuart.
- Too soft for heavyweight people – This bed will likely be too soft for heavyweight people and couples. People who weigh more may find that they are pushing through the layers too quickly, which could cause poor spinal alignment and pressure buildup.
Customer Reviews of the DreamCloud
The DreamCloud Original scores a solid 4.7 out of 5 stars among customers on its site. One potential downside of the DreamCloud Original mattress is its weight, making it challenging to move or rotate, but it offers excellent support and comfort for those who prefer a medium-firm feel.

Why the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Earned Best Cooling Full-Size Mattress
Staying cool while you’re sleeping is a key component to getting quality sleep since overheating can lead to discomfort and restlessness. However, with Brooklyn Bedding’s Aurora Luxe, getting hot during the night shouldn’t be a concern. This is because there are multiple cooling properties contained within this mattress’s luxurious design.
With its TitanCool™ Technology leading the charge, the Aurora Luxe incorporates cooling throughout the layers that make up this bed. By using naturally cooling copper with its CopperGel™ and CopperFlex™ properties, the Aurora Luxe channels heat away from sleepers while also providing comfortable contouring with the springy responsiveness of yet another cool material, alternative latex.
Temperature-responsive phase-changing technology is also featured in this mattress. In addition to its incredible cooling prowess, the Aurora Luxe’s hybrid construction and thoughtful manufacturing make it a durable, comfortable, and sturdy bed.
What’s the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Made Of?
This 13-inch tall mattress starts with a soft and smooth cover made from proprietary GlacioTex™, which provides a cool-to-the-touch feeling. Below the cover, there is a 1.5-inch comfort layer that consists of Brooklyn Bedding’s latex alternative foam, CopperFlex™. This responsive and cradling material also uses TitanCool™ technology to provide additional temperature regulation.
A second 2-inch comfort layer is made from strong memory foam, which allows people to reposition more easily thanks to its substantial bounce. To help sleepers ease from the top comfort layers to the support coils, there is a 1-inch transition layer of visco-elastic memory foam. This layer provides additional cooling by infusing the foam with gel, and it promotes pressure relief.
This bed can support 950 pounds thanks in large part to the innerspring unit consisting of 1,032 individually wrapped 8-inch Ascension® coils, which provide support, durability, and stability. The coils assist with cooling by allowing air circulation and also help with responsiveness and motion isolation.
The Ascension® coils are supported by a .75-inch layer of high-density foam that gives the entire bed more stability

- Cooling capabilities – We were thoroughly impressed with the multiple cooling features that Brooklyn Bedding incorporated into this mattress. Our reviewers agreed that overheating was highly unlikely because this is one of the coolest mattresses they have tested.
- High-quality construction – The Aurora Luxe is constructed with layer upon layer of high-quality materials. These include individually wrapped Ascension® coils, copper gel-infused latex alternative foams, and several other proprietary materials that combine to make this bed exceptionally well-crafted.
- Excellent bounce – We found this gave to have exceptional bounce. The bounciness of the Aurora Luxe makes repositioning a breeze, which is a great attribute for sexually active couples and sleepers who change positions through the night.
Potential Drawbacks
- More costly – The Aurora Luxe is made with high-quality materials and incorporates multiple cooling elements that make this bed an excellent choice for many people. However, that excellence comes at a fairly steep price. While we think it is a great value, those on a tight budget may prefer something cheaper.
- Heavy – We appreciate that this is a sturdy and durable mattress, but the layers of materials that go into making this such a quality product also make it heavy. Therefore, this can add difficulty when you are moving or just want to rearrange your bed.
Customer Reviews of the Aurora Luxe
On Brooklyn Bedding’s site, the Aurora Luxe has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. Customers praise the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress for its advanced cooling features, but some have mentioned that it is relatively expensive compared to other options.

Why the Nolah Original Earned Best All-Foam Full-Size Mattress
All-foam mattresses have exploded in popularity over the past decade, and it is easy to see why. These types of beds are comfortable and affordable, and they can be delivered to your doorstep in a box. Although there are dozens of contenders for this spot, we selected the Nolah Original for its affordability, supportiveness, and pressure-relieving features.
We were also fans of Nolah’s proprietary AirFoam™, which hits in the middle of traditional slow-response memory foam and the bounciness of latex. The company claims that this material is cooler than memory foam infused with gel and more durable than latex.
Additionally, we think the Nolah is an excellent choice for side sleepers. Those who prefer this sleep position may find that their shoulder and hips are sore because of the extra weight that is placed on them throughout the night. Fortunately, the foam used in the Nolah Original cradles sleepers in a gentle hug that keeps pressure at bay, while still being supportive enough to sustain a healthy body alignment.
What’s the Nolah Original Made Of?
The Nolah Original consists of three layers that add up to a 10-inch profile.
The first material that you’ll come into contact with on a Nolah Original mattress is the cover, which is made from soft, breathable Tencel™. This a cooling and moisture-wicking material that helps keep sleepers dry and their body heat regulated.
The top comfort layer is 2 inches tall and made of Nolah’s proprietary AirFoam™. Next, you’ll find the 1-inch middle layer made of supportive latex-like foam that transitions sleepers from the plush top layer to the sturdy base layer while providing bounce and responsiveness. Lastly, you’ll find 7 inches of high-density poly foam, which makes up the base layer and gives structure to the bed.
What We Liked
- Cooling materials – Although all-foam mattresses have a tendency to retain heat, Nolah’s proprietary AirFoam™ is specifically made to promote a temperature-neutral sleeping environment. This can be helpful for those who want an all-foam bed but are concerned about overheating.
- Motion isolation – The Nolah Original shines when it comes to preventing motion from transferring from one side of the bed to the other. This makes it an exceptional choice for couples and those who sleep with pets.
- Responsiveness – All-foam beds are typically less buoyant, but Nolah incorporated some high-resilience foam that gives this bed more bounce than others in the same category.
Potential Drawbacks
- Lower profile – The Nolah Original is 10 inches tall. While it’s not the shortest mattress height out there, there are other mattresses much thicker than this. Fans of lower-profile beds or those who are trying to conserve space may enjoy this, but those with mobility issues who also have a low bed frame may find it difficult to get in and out of this bed.
- Lacks support for stomach sleepers – People who like to sleep on their stomachs may find that this bed doesn’t keep their hips elevated enough. As a result, they may sink into the bed too much, which can cause the lower back to curve and eventually lead to pain.
Customer Reviews of the Nolah Original
On Nolah’s website, the Nolah Original has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. Some customers have noted that the Nolah Original mattress may have less edge support, yet many customers praise its superior pressure relief as a significant advantage.

Why the Bear Original Earned Best Full-Size Mattress for Athletes
Bear’s flagship model aims to provide restorative sleep to athletes, and those who lead active lifestyles. Our team liked how the mattress adapts to the curves and contours of the body to relieve pressure and soothe sore muscles. Its open-cell construction is also an advantage for those who sleep hot.
There is an optional Celliant-infused cover that uses Sleep Recover Technology™. Although not confirmed, Bear suggests that Celliant used in their optional cover can transform body heat to infrared energy, which may improve blood flow and reduce inflammation. Additionally, if you’re part of an athletic couple or sleep with an energetic dog, the Bear Original does a great job of absorbing motion before it can travel to the other side of the bed, which means fewer disturbances and better sleep.
What’s the Bear Made Of?
The 10-inch Bear Original features an all-foam design. Unless you add the optional Celliant-infused cover, you’ll first come into contact with the soft and breathable TENCEL™ cover. From there, this mattress has three layers that transition from soft to sturdy.
The top layer is made from cooling gel memory foam. By adding gel to this foam, it keeps the material from getting too warm. Under the top layer, there is a layer of “Bear Dynamic Foam” that offers pressure relief and support as it transitions you from the plush top layer to the bottom layer of high-density support foam. The base layer is the largest of the three, providing durability and spinal support.
What We Liked
- Cooling materials – Although all-foam mattresses have a reputation for sleeping hot, the Bear Original implements several cooling properties that help sleepers stay cool throughout the night. These include the breathable TENCEL™ and cooling gel in the memory foam layer.
- Motion isolation – The all-foam construction of the Bear Original makes it a standout at isolating motion. This feature can keep you from feeling your partner’s movements so you’re less likely to be disturbed while you sleep.
- Firmness – This bed is a little more firm than many other all-foam mattresses, and we think that this makes it more versatile for more body types and sleep positions.
Potential Drawbacks
- Little responsiveness – Combination sleepers or sexually active couples may not get the kind of bounce that makes it easier for them to reposition on this mattress. Some sleepers may feel more stuck in the mattress.
- Lacks support for heavyweight sleepers – Those who weigh more than 230 pounds may find that this bed is too soft to adequately support their weight. This is especially true if they are a stomach sleeper.
Customer Reviews of the Bear Original
On Bear’s website, the Bear Original has more than 10,000 reviews and an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars. Customers appreciate the Bear Original mattress for its cooling features, yet some express concerns about a potential initial off-gassing odor.

Why the Titan Plus Earned Best Full-Size Mattress for Heavyweight Sleepers
Brooklyn Bedding’s Titan Plus is a thoughtfully designed mattress that addresses the specific needs of heavyweight sleepers. We were delighted by how the combination of pressure-relieving foam layers and sturdy TitanCaliber™coils provide a comforting and supportive bed for those who weigh more.
The Titan Plus can handle up to 1,000 pounds, and we think that this makes it a great choice for couples who are both on the higher end of the scale. Additionally, we picked this mattress because its firmness allows even heavyweight stomach sleepers, who can often struggle with finding a bed that keeps their hips elevated, to sleep comfortably.
What’s the Titan Plus Made Of?
The 11-inch Titan Plus mattress starts with a cooling cotton cover that has an inch of gel-infused memory foam quilted to it. This material contours to your body and draws heat away from you. For an additional charge, you can upgrade to a GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover that will provide additional cooling properties. The rest of the mattress consists of three foam layers and a base layer of coils.
Below the gel memory foam, there are 2 inches of proprietary TitanFlex™ foam. This layer targets points of the body that tend to bear most of the sleeper’s weight. Additionally, this material is designed for responsiveness, helping sleepers reposition more easily.
Further below, you’ll find 6 inches of the company’s individually-pocketed TitanCaliber™ coils that provide spinal alignment and curb motion transfer. The base of this bed is made from 2 inches of high-density foam that cushions the coils by providing a sturdy and durable foundation.
What We Liked
- Cooling properties – The gel-infused memory foam draws heat away from the body and pushes it down to the coil layer where it can circulate and dissipate. You can also upgrade to a GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover for even more cooling at night.
- Higher weight limit – This mattress is specifically made for heavier people and has been designed to support up to 1,000 pounds. Our team thinks that this can be particularly beneficial to heavier couples.
- Supportive coil unit – There are hundreds of TitanCaliber™ coils that will prop up substantial weight to keep sleepers’ in a healthy alignment, minimizing their risk of back pain or unwanted pressure.
Potential Drawbacks
- Too firm for some – This bed is made specifically for heavier people, and part of the design includes having a very firm feel. This could make it too firm for lighter people and some average-weight people who like to sleep on their sides.
- Lack of cradling – Although this bed uses memory foam, it doesn’t offer much in the way of contouring. If you like being more cradled by your mattress, we think that this may not be the bed for you. It gives the sensation of sleeping ‘on top of’ the mattress rather than ‘in’ it.
Customer Reviews of the Titan Plus
Users on Titan by Brooklyn Bedding’s site have given the Titan Plus a 4.7 out of 5 stars. Customers find the Titan Plus mattress to offer exceptional durability and support, but some mention that it might be too firm for those who prefer a softer feel.

Why the Birch Natural Earned Best Eco-Friendly Full-Size Mattress
We think sleepers looking for an eco-friendly bed will find a worthwhile match in the Birch Natural by Helix. It is made with natural Talalay latex, organic cotton, and wool, which means that not only is it a green choice, but it is also good for sleepers with allergies.
Along with incorporating sustainable, greener materials, this mattress also has third-party certifications to back up its eco-friendly design. The Birch Natural is GREENGUARD Gold and GOTS certified for quality and safety.
What’s the Birch Natural Made Of?
With a profile of 11 inches that is made up of natural cotton, wool, Talalay latex, and steel coils, the Birch Natural is an eco-friendly hybrid mattress. The soft-to-the-touch cover is highly breathable as it’s made from all-natural cotton. Directly under that cover, is a layer of wool and rayon that serves as a natural flame retardant. That is followed by another layer of organic wool that offers contouring and wicks away moisture to help you stay cool and dry.
You’ll find pressure relief in the Talalay latex unit further below. This latex contours to the shape of your body and helps prevent pressure from building up around parts of the body that are in contact with the mattress. This foam is also responsive, helps sleepers reposition, and provides temperature neutrality.
The base layer of this mattress is made up of individually wrapped coils that add targeted support to different parts of your body while helping to keep motion transfer down. Under the coils is a flame-resistant wool batting that serves as a stabilizer for the coils while providing a sturdy foundation.
What We Liked
- Naturally cooling materials – This bed not only uses more eco-friendly materials, but these materials are also inherently more breathable. This combination should keep your body temperature regulated throughout the night.
- Eco-friendly design – We love that the Birch Natural is built with organic materials. This is great for shoppers who want to avoid more synthetic-based beds.
- Responsive – The natural springiness of latex combined with the coils provide a good amount of bounce. We appreciate this feature because it makes repositioning easier for sexually active couples, combination sleepers, and those with limited mobility.
Potential Drawbacks
- Lack of contouring – People who like more of a deep hug from their mattress may not find enough comfort in this bed. That being said, our tester, Jennifer, still found a gentle hug with this mattress.
- Little motion isolation – If you sleep with a partner or pet, you may feel too much motion from their movements, and this could disturb your sleep. This shouldn’t be an issue for solo sleepers, though.
Customer Reviews of the Birch Natural
According to Birch’s website, the Birch Natural scores a 4.6 out of 5 stars. While some users consider the Birch Natural mattress to be on the pricier side, it gains customer appreciation for its organic materials and sustainable, eco-friendly construction.

What is a Full-Size Mattress?
A Full-size bed, which may also be referred to as a Double or a Standard bed, typically comes in at around 54 inches wide and 75 inches long. This makes them approximately 16 inches wider than Twin beds and about 6 inches narrower than a Queen. Full-size mattresses can be found in a variety of designs, heights, and firmness levels.
What to Look for in a Full-Size Mattress
Full-size mattresses can be a great option for single sleepers who want a little more room than a Twin bed provides and for couples who don’t have a bedroom that can’t accommodate a larger Queen or King-size bed. As with any mattress purchase, there are specific qualities you need to consider based on your specific needs and preferences.
Type of Mattress
Innerspring Mattresses
An innerspring mattress is probably what you think of when you picture a traditional bed. These longstanding options still have a lot to offer, though. Not only are they one of the most cost-friendly mattress choices, but they also stand out when it comes to bounce and support. Furthermore, the coil construction allows air to flow freely, which makes these mattresses a great choice for those who sleep hot.
Hybrid Mattresses
Hybrid mattresses take the support and bounce of innerspring beds and combine them with comforting layers of foam. Many people are drawn to these mattresses because they take great features from two different types of mattresses and put them together as one.
While there can be slight differences in the exact design and materials used, the basic setup of a hybrid mattress will consist of comforting memory foam or latex on top. This is usually followed by a transitional layer of slightly firmer foam that eases sleepers into the sturdier coil base at the bottom. Many people are drawn to a hybrid’s versatility, which allows them to hone in on their specific mattress wants and needs.
Memory Foam Mattresses
Memory foam mattresses have become very popular thanks to their affordability and pressure-relieving qualities. Memory foam gently cradles your body in a hug, which is where it shines for pressure relief. Also, co-sleepers are drawn to how well this material prevents motion from transferring from one side of the bed to the other.
Complaints about memory foam’s tendency to run hot led many manufacturers to add cooling materials and technologies to their beds. Brands are now adding cooling gels or using natural cooling materials like graphite or copper, while others aerate the foam to help regulate temperature.
Latex Mattresses
Latex beds are also a common mattress type available to shoppers. Although latex beds are typically more expensive than other types, they offer plenty of advantages to help offset the additional cost.
Latex is naturally cooling, and it can provide excellent bounce, pressure relief, and support. Additionally, these beds are highly durable for long-lasting use. Eco-conscious consumers should be drawn to the fact that latex beds are an environmentally-friendly choice.
When you are shopping for a latex mattress, you’ll likely come across the terms Talalay and Dunlop. These words indicate the manufacturing process that was used to create the mattress. Talalay latex is usually the softer of the two.
Other Considerations When Shopping for a Full-Size Mattress
Sleeping Position
Those who sleep on their back typically do best with medium-firm beds that can provide both pressure relief and spinal support. These sleepers may also want to look for beds that have targeted lumbar support.
Related: Best Beds for Back Sleepers
Soft to medium-firm beds usually suit side sleepers. These sleepers put a lot of pressure on their shoulders and hips, and beds that provide both cushion and support can be ideal.
Stomach sleepers should look for beds on the firmer side so that their hips and midsections are adequately elevated. If your hips sink too far down in the bed, this can lead to lower back pain.
Those who like to sleep in more than one position throughout the night should look for a versatile and adaptable mattress. A mid-range firmness tends to work well for these sleepers. Additionally, responsive beds allow combination sleepers to reposition more easily throughout the night.
Weight/Body Type of Sleepers
A bed’s firmness can feel different depending on how much a sleeper weighs. Lightweight sleepers may interpret a mattress as much firmer than those who weigh more than 130 pounds. Therefore, these sleepers are often more comfortable in a plusher bed, while those who come in at 230 pounds or more usually need a firmer mattress to prevent them from sinking too much throughout the night. Average-weight people usually find quality sleep with a mattress that is medium-firm.
Firmness
Although how hard or soft you like your bed is based on personal preference, the level of firmness that provides the best support and pressure relief for you is largely determined by your preferred sleep position and body weight.
Medium-firm beds are suitable for a high percentage of people, especially those who are of average weight. However, beds can feel more or less firm depending on where you fall on the scale. Heavier people may need a firmer bed to make it feel that it is medium-firm, and those on the lighter side often find the most comfort on softer beds.
Cooling
If you have a tendency to get hot, you will want to invest in a cooling mattress.
Memory foam typically runs hotter than other types of mattresses because air can’t flow freely through the material’s tiny pores. However, many manufacturers have taken steps to remedy this and now use various cooling technologies that can help with temperature regulation.
Innerspring and hybrid mattresses can be excellent choices for hot sleepers because the coils allow air to flow through the interior of the mattress. Latex beds are also great for cooling because the open cell structure of latex facilitates significant airflow.
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation is an important feature for couples or those who sleep with pets. This is because if your bed doesn’t prevent motion from transferring from one side of the bed to the other, one partner’s movement can disturb the other’s sleep.
Memory foam beds usually offer excellent motion isolation because the dense foam absorbs movement before it can travel to other parts of the bed. This can be a particularly good feature if one partner is a light sleeper.
Sex
Sexually active people may prefer beds that are responsive and bouncy. These features allow partners to move and reposition easily during intimacy.
Innerspring, latex, and hybrid mattresses can provide plenty of responsiveness, quickly returning to their original shape after weight has been applied to them. These features can prevent people from feeling stuck in the bed.
If sex is an important aspect of the mattress that you choose, you will likely want to avoid memory foam as its slow-responding nature can make it more difficult to maneuver.
Explore the best beds for sex here.
Pressure Relief
Mattresses that provide pressure relief can deliver more comfortable sleep. If pressure builds up around the areas of the body that come into contact with the mattress, you may wake with aches and pains. To decrease pressure buildup and ensure proper spinal support, you will want a bed with materials and a firmness level that can adequately support your weight, and accommodate your preferred sleeping position.
Mattresses with memory foam or latex can be very helpful for mitigating pressure buildup.
Related: Best Mattress for Pressure Relief
Edge Support
The level of resistance a mattress provides around the perimeter will determine its edge support. Although how well your mattress is supported along the outside ridge may not seem like an important feature, without it, getting in and out of bed can be difficult. Adequate edge support also allows you to utilize the entire surface of the bed, which may be essential if you are sleeping with a partner.
Budget
Budgets, like beds, come in many different sizes. Fortunately, there are quality beds that will fit into most allotted spending amounts. If your budget is a little lean, you may want to look at memory foam and innerspring mattresses as you can find top-notch beds at low to moderate price points.
In addition to the cost of the mattress, you will want to consider how much you’ll be out for shipping and returns. While most companies provide free shipping to the contiguous U.S., some charge for shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, or Canada, along with a return fee for those who don’t want their mattress.
Explore our picks for the best budget mattresses.
Best Full-Size Mattress FAQs
How much should I spend on a Full-size mattress?
There are plenty of affordable, well-made mattresses, and a more expensive price tag doesn’t necessarily equate to it being a better mattress.
When you are shopping for a new mattress, keep in mind that the type of mattress and materials can impact the price. For example, an eco-friendly latex hybrid is going to cost much more than a standard memory foam or innerspring bed. If you want a particular mattress but are concerned about prices, you can try shopping during major sales holidays since prices typically drop even further.
When should I replace my mattress?
The frequency in which you replace a mattress will depend on factors such as the quality of the materials, how well it is constructed, how much weight it’s supporting, and how often it is slept in. Typically, a decent mattress will last 7-10 years. Also, rotating your mattress a few times a year can create more even wear and tear, and mattress protectors can also help extend your mattress’ lifespan.
When is the best time to buy a mattress?
Many mattress manufacturers run sales around national holidays. These include President’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. However, if you need one before one of these holidays, check the websites as some may have coupons or deals available at other times.
